*shrug* It's a victory screen on a Paradox game. It's not like more than 5% of players are gonna see it, especially more than once. ;P

Unless you're specifically talking about the fact of being trans, such as regarding health care access and needs or discrimination, or just the day-to-day differences that comes with being trans? Generally it's preferred to just call them by their gender, man, woman, or whatever, and ditching the "trans" prefix.

I say generally because some people prefer the trans prefix and some don't. So it's only a rule of thumb, to not draw unwanted attention to the person unless you're told they have an otherwise preference, by the person in question. Like, unless you know what they want, then simply call them a man and not accidentally force them Out because you wouldn't know if they ARE Out of the Closet to the people in earshot, for example.

It's pretty basic, I think. Don't draw potentially unwanted attention by adding unnecessary qualifiers, unless the person in question wants those qualifiers. :B

No, trans man is someone who was designated as a woman at birth and transitioned to presenting as a man.

That's why in a world where you're forced into your "sex" bathroom, you have blokes like
Spoiler: This Guy (click to show/hide)
being in a womens room and making everybody uncomfortable, including himself.

E: it's also less ambiguous if you think about it in terms of "Who's more likely to say 'Trans woman' as opposed to 'man in a dress' or something else equally dreadful? Someone acknowledging their gender or someone misgendering them?"

In that situation, it's easy to see that "trans woman" means "someone transitioning and presenting as a woman" and the same for "trans man" = "someone transitioning to present as a man"

Well... this has been a dumpster fire of a thread.

It'd be great if people were to read up on these things before going "I don't get why (x)" cuz it's pretty well laid out... Uh. Everywhere. Often.

And if they thought through the implications of things... Like having a big muscley bearded bloke in the womens room, cuz that's his "biological sex" as a trans man. Good job, you've made everyone uncomfortable!

I think that's a book, though not set in modern Germany. :v

No.

Maybe this is just a communication thing? Implicit in the idea of "experiencing life," is the idea of *new* experiences.

You're not 'experiencing' anything if you're just doing the same damn thing over and over again. You're enduring it, not experiencing it. :v

My purpose in life is to experience it.  This is why having a singular purpose in task form imposed on me (like being stuck working a job for most of my waking hours) pisses me off so much.  It limits my ability to experience life.

No, it doesn't. You wouldn't be experiencing a dyft more of life if you were having supersex with the three most beautiful people in the world while basejumping off the top of Mount Everest. You clearly don't think your purpose is "to experience life" or you wouldn't have any problem with how you live. Your purpose seems much more to be "to enjoy life", ie hedonism.
Doing the same thing over and over again, most days of the week and most weeks of the year, for 40 years is not "experiencing life," someone disliking that because they want to experience life is not being contradictory, and the alternative to that is not hedonism.

Uh, hello? What about the Sisters of Battle? The all women militant order? They're Imperium as well?
That only matters if they're more than just a token "And THESE guys exist!" thrown in once in a while. I wouldn't know regarding the writers, but in regards to the fans, they're pretty much never mentioned that I can see, except when someone brings in charges of sexism. Which sounds like they're an "anti-sexism totem" to me.

Also, @Frumple: "Gene seed fucks with the female anatomy," I mean. It's fiction. Writers could change that, or could have not done that in the first place. Never understood why people bring up in-universe reasons for things when others talk about how the *writers* are Bad People for those things existing. Like... Yeah, they have an explanation for it? That doesn't address the main point though. :v

just my two cents, i don't give a hoot about 40k, neither to tarnish nor praise it.

... I see it in at least half my games.

In really weird areas.

Particularly memorable was a Holy African Empire.

As in, the AI that formed it used the Kingdom of Africa as template, so the HRE Coat of Arms was based on the African CoA.

I'm still in that portion of my game, eager to see how it evolves into wartime (I'm trying barbaric despoilers). Fun fact, you can't abduct primitives with the raiding stance since you can't bombard them. I'm disappointed, but I can understand how having what would essentially be a population farm early-game would be broken.

Primitives in what way? Pre-sentients that you can uplift? I'm only asking because I've abducted pops from a Renaissance planet as a Barbaric Despoiler just fine. The fact that they actually grow to fill out the missing pops is great. The fact that all of their species, regardless of where they are, get stellar shock once you take over their planet? Not so great.

That's actually literally what I was talking about. It wouldn't let me bombard atomic age civs.
That was hit or miss for me; If they had an orbital station, I could attack it and make the prim-civ hostile that way. Then bombardment is simple.

Without that, I've had right-clicking on a planet both ask me to confirm that I want to bombard them and turn them hostile, AND had it happen that my ships would just park in orbit and no hostilities commenced.

I fixed the latter by sending a lone army and then retreating as soon as I could, so I could then bombard it into a tomb world and put my Exterminator colony onto it.

... Or they just think that a story like that wouldn't sell eyeballs.

Doesn't have to be malicious feminism striking again, dude.

Not everything does.

Alternatively, they don't think it has enough backing to be certain, and don't want to run the story and have to retract it later. Your article was reprinted from The Sun, and the other top hit for "Jamie Lamar Assault" is a Breitbart article.

At least your avatar isn't infectious.

The main problem pointed out here is the same as it always is: Give them the power to do something like this in these circumstances, and they'll eventually take that power and expand it into other, less clear-cut circumstances.

You know the old thing. "First they came for the communists..."

Not to mention, it reeks of "Not Our Problem," for them to merely strip a jihadi of citizenship (especially before they've been brought before a judge and trial) without actually doing anything about them; putting them on trial, jailing them, etc.

PSA: most ginger ale in stores is actually sucky ginger ale. real ginger ale sears your mouth like the fury of ten thousand suns and is also more tasty
I tried such a ginger ale from a brand called Grace, their Island Soda line.

I was on the fence with it until I finished, at which point I fell down that fence and now I fucking loathe it because of how disturbing "spicy soda" is.

Not offhand, and I'm a bit too drunk to go researching right now.
I haven't had alcohol in about a year now, and I'm always too drunk to try researching American politics.
