i feel like people are taking my devil's advocacy of a hypothetical *potential* *possible* pathway to blaming (America/Nixon/Reagan) for 9/11

like

i don't actually think that's what happened, and I don't care enough to look into things to say things beyond a "I mean this seems somewhat logical as a pathway?" like about why Saudi Arabians might fund Mujihadeen.

I feel like that's been missing in the responses; I have no interest in, nor desire to, defend the idea in the particulars or even in the general concept.

To be fair, I was fairly hedgy about whether Americans not funding the Mujahideen in the 80s would actually... You know, accomplish anything about 9/11. There's a lot of ifs, buts, and ands, and even assuming all the dominoes are *there* (Such as whether the American funding had any influence on bin Laden surviving and becoming a key player) there's always the question of a) whether the American funding actually was the key bit, and would otherwise stop bin Laden instead of merely postpone it or... Just, nothing. And b) whether something else would fill the void even if that were the case, it's not like America is the only source of funding in the world. Bin Laden was *rich,* just to start. And Saudi Arabian, which might have gone "Hey, let's support those guys! For reasons!"

Trump doesn't even have an articulated opinion on China. The whole of his feelings are "China is benefiting from trade with us and therefore there is more flesh we could extract out of the deal, we therefore must be getting the short end of the stick, GINA!" And secretly "maybe the guys will finally respect me if I pass a trade deal favorable to them".

He didn't even fucking understand you don't publicly talk about talking to the Taiwanese government. How much space even exists below that level of knowledge on Chinese geopolitics?
I think it's just a few centimeters below that and "What's a Taiwan? Some kinda dumpling?" or even "What's a China? Some sort of drink?"

Was Nixon president when the U.S. was funding the Mujahideen (and possibly bin Laden) in the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan?

If so; yes. By not funding them, assuming that Americans funding was critical to bin Laden surviving create al Qaeda and organize the hijacking.

But I think that was Reagan.

REAGAN CAUSED 9/11

I'm betting Michael Bay has a kid who really likes Dora the Explorer and that's why he's producing it, for the kid.

Derelict is super weird to me to call a person. Derelict is something that concerns ships. Maybe towers. It would be like calling somebody a wreck :P
but we do call people wrecks...

Just watched Ex Machina

That ending has all my wtf.
I know, right? It's so great. It throws the entire rest of the movie into question. I mean, I know who I was rooting for through most of the movie, riiiiight up until that point, and then I don't know *what* to think anymore.

The plot info on wikipedia explains it I guess? Though he wanted the android to escape, then decides to stop her for some reason, then she escapes anyway.
I didn't say I didn't understand it.

I said I like how it fucked with expectations and threw me for a loop in terms of who I was rooting for.

That's not me not understanding it and I don't need to read the wikipedia page about the plot to know what was going on. :/

@Reelya: Mate, overseer was makin' what's known as "a joke." What?

Discord is an IM service like Skype or Steam Chat with in-built chat-rooms as well.

Most people use it for the chat rooms than for the one-on-one friend chat.

Other popular functions include sub-rooms in the chatroom, easy sharing of images on your clipboard (i.e. no need to use a hoster) and optional (and multiple) voice rooms in the chatrooms with multiple participants.

Recent addition of video chat too, but I do not know the specifics of how it's used or where it can be used. I haven't seen it used.

My only gripe with it is that it has no microphone testing in the options. Otherwise it's fairly clean UI, and easy to use. It doesn't "feel weird" like other IM services (like IRC) have to me.

uh

that was like

a poster, dude

an ad

that wasn't "their work" in that meaning any more than riffing off a trailer for a movie as "the movie"

there's usually a bit more to it
