DF General Discussion / Mersenne twister in df
« on: May 25, 2012, 03:02:58 pm »
I read that df uses a mersenne twister, after reading the wikipedia article I cant help but admit that :

1)I dont understand how it works (please someone explain me)
2) how the heck is it used in dwarf fortress??? I must be broad and dumb but I cant see...

They have their own agenda, wich span over all eternity and isnt subject to the constraints of space and time. If at some point a human is considered useful, then blessed he shall be!
until he becomes useless...

in the case of a spiralling ramp :

  ||
  ||
   A
next level :
   V
 OA
next level
O
AV

the first upward ramp would be north south, the second one north west and the last one nort east?

170
ok, with walls behind each ramp still no dir..

171
thrid edit I try rebuilding the whole thing

172
ok, on the top level it is a north south track. when told to push south they does not. in the bottom level it is east west, when told to push east they doesnt

edit, in the hauling screen I have exclamation marks "set dir/connect track" I dont get what I have to do

173
I did put my track stop on a "north" track...

damnit, when I use a nort south track it works... so what use are "north" or "south" only tracks?

edit 2 no, in fact it does not work either

174
I created a minecart track from my warehouse to my trade depot,
first : I cant get the dwarves to push it, they will take it then bring it to the next stop not using the tracks at all. I have an excalamation mark on my stops saying "set track dir" but whatever I do (meaning setting the option to "push east when fully loaded with desired good" and "take from stockpile 2") I cant get the little buggers to push the damned cart along the tracks... what am I doing wrong?

175
ok, kingfisher I hand you gatal's apprentice and bodyguard character.
evil marahadja? the question too gildor still stand :)

176
I think that's you freeform schooler.
(I'm in paris to its quite a pain to review all the posts on my phone) who is playing gildor gorbatov?

edit, I am going to take notes on my phone whenever we play a seems its getting quite awkward -_-' sorry for the confusion

Melmul looked in the dwarf eyes with suspicion at first then with great alarm as his sorrow became obvious. A lonely silence filled the place.

finally, breaking it :
I assume you dwarves had to fought many a battle against this kind of foe. Us denizens of the overworld havent the faintest clue about the beast weaknesses. I do not want to die fighting a battle wich seems already lost. Is there anything you can do?

To the stranger (gildor gorbatov) in the shadows : and you, sir, you havent spoken a word since I arrived, who are you and what are you doing here?

178
I know little but I heard a lot. I heard that you dwarves waged a merciless war against the goblins of temptfall for decades, I heard that many hamlets were burned in retaliation for helping the goblins out of fear, I heard that your stout warriors killed every living being in three towns to find one fleeing goblin leader. And last I heard from the commonfolk of this place that shortly before your arrival screams could be heard from within temptfall, goblin screams. You deserve to be called great tacticians for your wicked schemes. I think that you weakened the heart of the goblin nation unleashing upon them a beast from before time. I think you sealed some kind of pact, bargained with the lives of the goblins and humans alike. And now you wait for the beast to quench it's thirst for blood.

Is that true?

179
Melmul sat down quietly, watching the dwarve's stern face.

"tell me, oracle, what are you doing here? would not be more fitting for you to sit in your mountain halls amidst god and jewels? Is there something else about the beast I should know?

Important statement : as we are 5, you can choose to stay in the background if you have no idea of a secondary character that could improve the scene playing.
