Found a nice slade quarry full of undead penguin people. It's still inaccessible to my fort, so I can take my time making sure the dorfs don't starve or something, then go all out at it. The time of ‼SCIENCE‼ is almost upon us.

Also, it's unfortunate that we can't use slade to make chains or something, it'd make the perfect prison material...

I can see the ending...

1) turn off cave-ins
2) build a floor around that nasty hole and make the slade tower unstable
3) turn cave-ins back on
4) ???
5) profit!

I can see it now...

Urist McDeathwish has created painhauling, a slade anvil!
All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. The object menaces with spikes of slade and encircled with bands of slade. On the object is an image of painhauling, the slade anvil in slade. The image relates to the creation of painhauling, the slade anvil by Urist McDeathwish. On the object is an image of socks in slade.

Looking at the Ethics, I remember the what makes a Dorf a Dorf thread. And I just realise - If we were Dorfs, the Dorfs would kill us for being Ethically incorrect :|

Not just Bay 12, the entire human race would be cruel in their eyes... Scary idea...

Physics really doesn't apply to DF does it?

It does, it's just that Dwarf logic dictates that "what you don't know can't hurt you" meaning that as long as they don't realize something is impossible, dwarves can do anything.

Oh, that's easy, assuming you find a curious underground structure. All you have to do is ramp up from under it. Depending on your miner(s) skill level(s), you get slade boulders just like when you tunnel through other stones.

You can mod the raws to do so. Also, you'll hear it on every forum ever, but double posting =/= a good thing.
If I need to bump a thread, I usually delete my last post and repost it (if the forum allows deleting) and that'll usually work pretty well.

Look on the bright side, in 20-30 years all of the Goblins/Elves that get stabbed with it will die of lead poisoning, and all of their children will be born severely handicapped.

I had been doing research into slade as a usable material before I took my hiatus (which is what I just now realized I've been doing since break started), and I found it works as a mason workshop material, so you can at least make miscellaneous object users happy with it.
