Try incorporating the reanimating skins into your military training regime. It'll be like chasing, I mean fighting, animals for weapon and fighter skill, only they won't run.

Just spent half an hour real time using a copper arrow to chip through the foot of a Bronze Colossus named [Something] Fistattacks, which seems fitting. In other news, copper arrows are rubbish against Bronze Colossi in melee.

I am right now being ambushed by a group of four serpentman vampires, in the middle of the day, on the surface, in the wilderness. I have never seen anything like it before.
And they're naked.

Can elves become necromancers in a vanilla? I was once in Masterwork elven necromancer, but it seems that you can't become on in the vanilla. I just read the slab with my elf. I got message:

"You read Gulshebaspast Oce"
"The secrets of life and death"

I waited for a day. Still no possiblity to reanimate anything.

I'm vampire, if that matters. Only accidentally, to be honest. Am I doing something wrong or can't elves just be necros? And is it possible to mod them to necromancer candidates without new a new world?

EDIT: I checked the legends.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Vampires cannot become necromancers, if you are using the ones that are generated by the game by default.

Elves and goblins can become necromancers if they read the books or slabs, but they will not actively seek out the secrets in worldgen, since they are already immortal. Because we don't have adventurers claiming the slabs in worldgen, you don't get any elf or goblin necromancers.

No they can't, it seems, because I didn't get any powers. Also isn't vampromancers pretty usual thing for many players? I've read many of them in the forums.
He was pretty much wrong about everything. Hell, my current vampire has TWO Animate Dead powers, due to some bug.

Maybe he learned two secrets?
He did, but if all you need is more slabs, he should have more than two Animate Dead. Might be a language thing somehow, I think one was penned by a Serpentman?

Of course it is possible. In DF, you can bisect anything. Except blobs.

LIEESS!!!! im not sure you've met the The King of All Beasts but they are immortal...
Giant Sponges are blobs, more or less.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Your weapon of choice
« on: June 27, 2013, 01:58:34 pm »
Dude you forgot poleaxes/pikes.

Poleaxe/Pike adv.
-Runs through the parts of small to medium creatures when struck/thrown to them (must be held in both hands in strike/stab attacks)
-has both stab, hack and bash capabilities (Poleaxe)

Disadvantage
-almost just a stick when held with one hand
-stab and hack capabilities seems useless against big creatures
-bash requires high weight to be more effective, apparently, most poleaxes/pikes dont.

I still like this weapon, though. Perfect for killing many civ creatures, including slugmen and other humanlike crittens
A pike is probably the most effective weapon against large creatures, since it can reach the organs of almost anything. They're also under the Spears label in the poll. Halberds use the axe skill and are counted among axes.

Start killing animal trainers and see if you can create a workforce of tamers who won't sleep, eat, drink, or go on breaks.

Elves can't become Necromancers since they don't grow old and die. The same applies for goblins, which is why you only find dwarf, human, and various animal-men Necromancers.
So a workaround would be giving them ridiculously long numbers for their natural lifespans?
I'm actually not sure. I don't mess with creature raws a lot. This is just what I've heard from others.

If only I could find a way to throw MYSELF at him....which sounds totally wrong now that I said it out loud....fuck you English
According to Matoro, all you need is a minecart.

My Legendary +6 Axe Lord found a masterfully crafted Iron Greataxe in a tomb. Set sail for slaughter.

Throw whatever seems cool to throw. Pointy items have a chance of penetration, edged weapons have a shot at dismemberment or disembowelment. Rocks are efficient, but not as satisfying.

I'm also wondering: how beatable are demons by vampire adventurers?
The moment you're caught in a demon's web, you're a goner as a vampire, necromancer, or regular adventurer. Don't know about Husks. Depends on if the demon actually decapitates you or not, since a mashed brain alone's nothing to a Husk.
