Of the listed, I prefer axes, or halberds in particular. But my favourite is a proper mining pick. Stab them in the gut, lodge it there, proceed to do horrible things to them with knives while they're unable to get away. That's how I discovered that if a weapon's lodged in the wound that spilled someone's guts, they take longer to bleed out.

You should at least have tested their combat efficiency. I mean, you could have a troop of crazy dwarves maiming goblins while hurling all over the battlefield. The goblins would be like, "what kind of fucking invasion have we signed up for here?"

Save up a few sieges worth of goblins and any forgotten beasts you manage to cage.
Set it up so when you hit the HFS you can pull a lever and have a huge battle royale between them all.
Might be worth building a danger room for captured goblins in order to train them into an anti-clown force. I also think I've read about people digging out areas that limit demon line of sight and therefore their capacity to cause wide-spread chaos with their area or ranged attacks. Oh, and Husks. After you train your goblins, turn them and their mounts into Husks. I realize some people like to build their fortresses in areas without evil clouds, so if you're one of THOSE, ignore this last part.

I don't think vampire NPCs feed very often, and while I don't know if a retired vampire adventurer will start draining villagers or not, if he does, you'll likely have to play Fortress Mode for a several in-game years before he starts collecting kills.

Then again, it could be a giant kakapo... I don't think they're aggressive either, but they are 221,000 or something units in total size (73x as large as a normal kakapo) and so have the potential to be very dangerous.
Especially if they're out to mate.

You could also do Akulakhan and make your fortress a cultist-infested nightmare of insanity built around and inside a volcano, and if you embark on a properly evil area, create a Husk army to defend you.

Capture uninvited guests, dragons and clowns inside it, making those with cloud syndromes or projectile attacks defend it. Fire through its mouth, gas through its vents, lava from its nip- I mean ears, all manner of trained beasts released through its toes, an advanced multi-target water cannon from its fingers. Stuff like that, I guess.
