Precisely.

Run little children. Run.

For the past three nights in a row, I've been having DF-based dreams.
Night one: I was being chased into my fortress (first-person, somehow) by dark dwarfs. Then my second dream (or you could consider it a part of that one) was just me playing Dwarf Fortress.
Night two: I dreamed my bed was an arena and I was wrestling kobolds. They were adorable.
Last night: I had a dream where I was playing a different mode of DF, all I remember of it was that you were a kobold and you had one jump to reach the end of the map. (It was a 2D sidescroller, with 8-bit actual graphics). Then my next dream was of my craftsdwarf (I actually remember that craftsdwarf was one that is in my current fortress, somehow. I remember him being blue, too. Too much DF?) had struck down a dragon that was attacking my fortress. With his bare hands. Then I exited and went back to play the kobold jump mode and saw it wasn't there. Then I realized it was a dream and I then dreamed I had got up to play DF for real to see if it was there. It was not. I woke up sad, wishing that mode was real.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, the fact that I'm dreaming in ASCII is rather strange. The brain is quite a marvel, isn't it?

I could see it happening, but a lot of the game's mechanics would probably have to be changed.

But, heck, I don't know, most every one at this forum are geniuses, they seem to have some rather liable theories on it working.

In past versions it was possible to settle right ontop (or underneath) human villages, but I notice embarking on cities is no longer allowed. Is there any way to re-enable this?

If not, will the feature return in the future?

...I miss causing controlled cave-ins that caused the village town hall to vanish down a deep hole.  :'(

I myself enjoyed in taking part of Demolition Dorfs as well.

And you can bet that if I found a magma pipe, I'd be sure to keep those humans all nice and toasty for the rest of their lives.

I guess I would be a sort of gamist/simulationist. I want massive glory, riches, and fame (in Adventurer as well as Fortress mode), and am completely fascinated by the things that DF conjures up along the way.

I have strong urges and wishes and dreams of building fantastic and aesthetic structures, but alas, I have no creativity; not it that aspect at least. I figure I'm too technical with things, unfortunately, and try to do things certain ways. I don't to be like that, I just am. No originality even. That all what I want: some good ole imagination.

Even with Legos I didn't come up with new things; in fact, I nearly built everything out of those 2x3 blocks. Too technical I am.

My hero proved his valiance many a time; he guarded the entrance to my fortress. Tosid Antakzon: a marksdwarf twas he. A rather heroic one at that as well. Massacred three goblin ambushes as well as picking off any kobolds attempting to intrude upon my fortress. Although, his fate was a awful one. We were sieged, and my entire military thought it was the perfect time to go sleep, and he was the sole dwarf who was out defending against about ten goblins, some wielding axes and hammers. He killed about five, and chased the others off the map, beating more and more with his crossbow, killing two more. The last he killed had injured his leg pretty badly, and the rest made a successful retreat. Then, my dwarves decided it best to ignore him out on the field, being dicks and not bringing him food or water. And it started to rain. How depressing. Then, once he died (rest in peace, sweet marksdwarf), everyone went absolutely nuts. Melancholy this, tantrum that, berserk everywhere. And in 20 minutes, my fortress population went from 120 to 30. And to punish the rest, I locked all the workers left in the top of a tower, for them to starve to death (everyone was dying from not eating or drinking anyway, or by a berserk dwarf). Ten drowned babies later, my fortress had crumbled.

Fun fact: Dwarfs don't care if you saved their lives; they're still dicks.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Best year to embark?

I usually let it stop around 200 years, but I usually go with a much lower number if I'm up to a great game in Adventurer. And as for the kobolds, I've actually had a world with about four (count em',: about-four) kobold civs. I thought it was a bug since I had been messing with the raws and adding things, so I got rid of the world. What a mistake.

My adventurer (who was a legendary shield-user, hammerman, and had the best of attributes) was recently knocked into a chasm by a wolf.

I'm... having... so... much... fun.

Really not that long; probably a day or two. The only experience I've had with ASCII graphics was from playing Angband and Nethack, and I used to be an ASCII artist as well (although I highly doubt that really relates all that much). Of course, I did have to use 'k' every two seconds while playing at first to figure out what everything was, though. I tried to use a graphics pack, but I realized I preferred the ASCII graphics. For whatever reason, I don't know. Just feels comfortable to me.

(40d) After training my Pikeman (named after the great Bengel Hairybasement) quite a bit, I gained the accompaniment of a few human comrades and even a couple elves, I decided to go attack a goblin fortress. We sneaked into (well, as much as you can sneak with eight people following you) the walls of the tower. I started of the combat (and possible sparked a war as well) by throwing a few iron bolts at the dwarven children that were there. My allies fought well, most unscathed. As well as the dwarven children, elves inhabited it as well, and we managed to find about six prisoners to join us. We sweeped the lower floor as well, without trouble. After doing so, we exited the building and ran to the goblin temple where we actually saw goblins (but not without mangling many organs and the gouging the eyes out of the bewildered children standing by). My men fought rather well; in fact, none had yet died. Using my collection of silver Sithedur coins, I was able to take out quite a few priests before we even reached them. I went on killing everything within my sight. I came across a priest who had both of his legs cut off, without anyone tending to his undeathiness. I decided it would be best to forcefully fondle him in the most violent way possible. Then, while many of my rangers and crossbowmen were beating feeble children with their bows, I was shot from behind in the "lower body" and went the iron bolt when all through. I collapsed, my friends fighting for and around me, unaware of my fate. My body was mounted on an iron spike, and my soul helplessly watching as my maceman is beat to death by a fishery worker with a maple crown. I see a couple other of my soldiers fall off the steep tower to meet their gruesome death on the stones below. I see a giant cave spider violently ripping apart the plethora of children I had attempted to rescue.

Looking back, I had been struck down by an elf named Atu Dungeonquests. May my god "Dilol" strike him down.
