DF Suggestions / Plague Carrying Migrants
« on: October 13, 2011, 01:56:47 am »
I was thinking that it'd be a great idea to expand the amount and type of syndromes that dwarfs can get to include other ways of having  your fort infected besides monsters, namely outsiders such as caravans, migrants, and even animals to lead to even more fun.

Some possible new syndromes could be dwarfy versions of common cold, flu, rabies, and plague.

Perhaps the bite your hunter received from the rabid wolf gave him rabies which if left untreated left him incapacitated for a few days until he was so mentally gone that he starts raging and attacking those around him?

Maybe the trade caravans brought a lot more than just trade goods when they visited your fortress, namely the flu which spread through your fortress incapacitating a number of dwarves and keeping them from doing their jobs?

Or maybe even one of the seasonal migrants unknowingly brought the plague to your fortress, it'd certainly give you more cause to pour magma over them for your next fortress or if you didn't burn them with magma, it could lead to a lot of fun as your fortress succumbs to plague.

It'd make the hospital a lot more important, now having to bear the burden of taking care of sick dwarfs on top of wounded and just lead to a lot more dwarf fortress fun. Plus it'd give fortresses all the more incentive to scorch migrants and caravans in lava knowing they could possibly be carriers of dangerous diseases.
