((I'm morbidly curious about Alan's element if Ike is a THUNDER MUSHROOM.))
((I'm thinking something to do with clowns. Or confetti. Or clowns throwing confetti everywhere.
Clowns are part of the natural world, right?))

Beep, boop! Just posting to signal the last call for any turns that people wish to enter before the update. I am going to start writing it up soon and it'll be finished within a few days, unless anyone else wishes to post their turn. I don't want to have anyone left out, so please do get your turn in. Thanks!

Have a great day,
Artemis.

UPDATE: Okay, so I have been murky and feeling terrible with some dastardly illness for the better part of this week, hampering my ability to work. This has affected my schoolwork and, unfortunately, has coaxed me into a snafu of sorts. While I can't control when I get sick or not, I can tell you that I may not finish writing the summaries for the turns and linking it all together in the Compendium for you like I hoped to do.

While I am recovering, I encourage you all to post your turns sometime this week. Of course, there is some lax time given for the update & my apparent onset of sickness, but posting turns lets me tie together what I am going to do for the update. So, don't be afraid to post!

If you have any questions, critiques, or comments, please let me know by posting below or sending a PM. I will try to respond whenever I don't feel like my head is about to burst.

As always, have a relaxing and wonderful week,
Artemis.

CHAPTER FOUR, INTERMISSION TWO: THE COMPENDIUM OF THE MEDIUM

So, instead of having some huge page that inevitably gets buried beneath the pile of updates and turns, how about we have a united document instead that serves the purpose?

I think yes.
Here is the Compendium of the Sixth Book of the Medium.
This document will be constantly updated to provide new information about some of the terms, inventory updates, story progress, and more that goes through the Medium. I will let you know by posting here if the document gets a major update, though some of the smaller changes like inventory updates will always be there per every turn.

So yeah. Go ahead and take a look! I'm sure you'll like it. I will also be putting this link in the original post.
Due to the time it took to get this out, I'll wait longer than usual (heh, as if that's even possible now) to write up the update. During that time, you'll be able to put your turns in.
For Coolrune, your Golem statistics will be fleshed out after the next update. I still have a few things to finish with the golem HP mechanic. After that, your golems' health and all that will be updated with your turn.
For everyone else and your health/inventory, your status will be included at the end and at the beginning of every update from now on. Hopefully. This is the first time I'll be putting that it, but since I now have an organized sheet for referencing, hopefully this will be much easier to include.

For easy reference:
Here is the link to the update prior to this Intermission.
I am exhausted right now, but I will also be including links to every turn both in the OP and maybe in the Compendium too.

As always, I hope you all have a wonderful week. I hope to see your turns soon!
Thank you,
Artemis.

Yeah, I think that was my fault for missing whatever you put in there. Sorry for the trouble.

It's not about being harsh. I like your characters, I don't want to kill them. It's about actions and consequences.

If there is no danger, if everything ends up well no matter what you do, then there is little point in having choice in the first place. You wouldn't be controlling characters, you'd be controlling actors and instead of interacting with the world you'd be improvising lines and actions for the plot.

I may bend things to your favour sometimes, plus the game mechanics do favour PCs over NPCs in certain circumstances, but I have to do things a certain way, I want to do things a certain way. So if the dice say you die, you die. End of the line.

On the other hand, that also means there is little limit to what you can do. So if your first action after arriving was murdering River and then using the teleporter to go live free in this world, not caring one bit about your quest, then if you rolled well, you could do it and there would be nothing I could do about that.
Right, and I'm not trying to say that we should have survived through all of the stupid decisions. A consequence is a consequence, of course. Maybe it was just my terrible reading comprehension, but I felt like I was interpreting things wrong throughout the whole thing. Like the size of the room or the hallway, for example, and the actual danger of the rock slabs. I didn't think we had any serious danger other than the parasites and the portal, so that's what I focused on. Perhaps that is a product of my misunderstandings, but I still feel like it could have turned out a lot better if we had a map or something of that sort.

((We were hunting an entity? Shit, I completely forgot that if I ever even knew it.))
((I knew we were chasing some guy or girl, but I didn't think it was an entity.))

((Woah, woah. DAF. Lenglon, chill you dudes. :O This is a time wherein we reflect on the feelings--as if our characters are still feeling that; though there is no note of further awareness post-blast. Herein I say we have faith in Ike until the very end. Hopefully he has empathy for us, despite me knowing his player is a nice dude.))
((Mhm, I agree. Let's just watch what happens for now.))

The thing that has me confused is why Ike woke up alone. Theri was right next to him, and I have specilized defenses against flame. Theri, though Tiruin's kept her capabilities hidden well, seems to be a physical-based character. so I'd expect her to be more resilient than Ike. Yet Ike woke up alone. It might simply have been a quirk of the dice or... I dono. Did Ike get something on his last levelup to make him survive with all his limbs when everyone else was instantly burnt to cinders too quickly to even feel what was happening including the person next to him?

so why Ike?

why not me?
Maybe it's a progressive wakeup. Maybe Ike needs to find the rest of us if he can (or wants to), so that we can get out of whatever kind of mess we have fallen into. I dunno. I am personally doubting why all of us, with our wide range of abilities, couldn't have survived the blast. Unless the portal was made of anti-matter, of course, but that's something else. Oh well. Again, I want to wait and see before reacting any more. Paris has been fair to us so far, I'm still putting my faith in that's it's not the end of the line for our characters.

I am hoping that that... that didn't really happen. that Irine will wake up sometime in the next couple turns, battered and burned, but alive.

I am angry, because I don't think that's going to happen. That everything was for naught. that even with her specilized defenses against exactly this type of death, in her most defensive possible posture and form, weren't enough. That there was nothing she could do. that her fate... that all of our fates, were sealed the moment I stopped River from sacrificing himself.

That it's all my fault.

I want to pm Paris, to beg and bargain for Irine's survival, or... or something... I don't even know really.

I know that anything I could say, could do, could ask for... I shouldn't do it. The GM is the GM, I shouldn't go about trying to fight against or undermine his authority. There is nothing productive I can say or do right now, all I can do is lash out... and I want to avoid doing that.

so...

yeah.

I can't afford to react right now.
To be honest, I'm about the same way. I mean, that was my character of all characters, the one that was my primary person. But I'm sure that the GM isn't going to be so harsh. I mean, come on, we weren't even out of the gate yet before we all "died." There has to be something else going on here.

Just trust that it'll turn out well, because I also have to put that trust into the game. Let's wait and see for now.

New character time?

"It is what it is, honestly, I'm not all that worried about it. Who's hunting us?"

She shakes her head woefully, which tells you that she is not going to give you a good answer. "I don't know. I really don't. I would tell you if I knew, but... there's just someone or something that doesn't like either of us mentioning things about the past. I wish I could tell you who or what it is, but I can't."
Your vision fades in and out, and her voice becomes like an echo to you. She recognizes this and remarks about it in a hurried voice: "Yeah, time for you to go. Remember: find a Gateway to the Medium, find anything that's out of place, and don't trust the Prince-"

Your vision goes completely black, slipping out of the spirit world that Danielle was talking to you in and putting you back in a blank place of nothingness.

((Aaaand now to wait for the Intermission and turn.))

"Are you dead?

She freezes in place and looks straight at you, her mouth slightly agape. After a few moments of disbelief at your question, she comments, "I... wasn't expecting that. Um, well.."

"I don't know, to be honest. I could be very much dead, or I could be alive. Maybe someplace in-between."
She tries to open her mouth to say a few more words, but nothing comes out. Instead, she pauses to think about her words and then looks to her right, out to the town near the volcano. "I hope I'm not dead, y'know. There's... there's some things I did in the past that, um... I-I need to make up for some things. Maybe this is my.. my purgatory." You can feel a stillness in the air, as if this entire spirit world is holding its breath, waiting to see what happens next.

"So, how are you getting your information? You didn't know about Purply number two until I mentioned him, but now you know how old he is?"

"Welp, on to the Shadows. What more can you tell me about them?"

Danielle holds a hand to her forehead and takes another sip of her drink. "I told you before, I can kinda see what you see, but not in the way you think. I don't have your vision. I get some kind of weird filter over my vision, which gets worse when you're interacting with other people. That filter also applies to my other senses, except for physical interaction, which I obviously can't do in this stupid spirit world. I saw his figure and heard a somewhat familiar voice, but I couldn't tie it together until you let me know who it was. Then it clicked. And then it became a whole lot worse, as you can see." She puts her head down and groans. "Mmm. I'm not cut out for this stupid mentoring business. Toooo many headaches." She downs the rest of the can and tosses it with the rest.

"Right, the Shadows, then.. oh boy. Did I tell you about why they're here? Well, I don't really know, to be honest. They're supposed to be the inner representations of the darkest parts of ourselves: secrets, greed, lies, despair, lust, and so on. Sometimes, the Shadows are innocent, and are just what they're supposed to be. But something between the beginning of the human race and where we are now screwed up. They're beginning to manifest in the real world and starting to hunt down humans. They're like... animals, but still us. As far as I know, we're able to dissipate them and spread them into the ground. But unless they find peace with their former owners or with something else that quells them, they continue to reform and keep on going. It never ends unless the living being that manifested it either dies or confronts their Shadow.

"...As you can imagine, it's very rare that we actually find the former hosts of the Shadows to actually lay the Shadows to rest. So we were on the run for a long time. It just so happens that some of our abilities as Guardians allow us to evaporate Shadows for an extremely long time, but it takes a lot of power. Hell, a tiny amount of Guardians have actually succeeded in banishing Shadows forever by, um... either taking the Shadows into their own soul or finding another soul host for the Shadow. As you might think, this is actually extremely freaking unhealthy for anyone who takes on another Shadow that's not their own.

"But we got somewhere. Some of our techno-freaks got together to create some cool weapons to fight the Shadows: using extremely expensive crystals to trap Shadows or Souls, weapons that more efficiently dissipate Shadows, and some other neat gadgets. It was too late though, there were just too many. Nobody could fight that many. Aaaand then the Break happened, which brings us just right freaking here. So, uh... yeah. That's your Shadow knowledge, delivered straight from a Shadow Hunter extraordinaire, also known as a Guardian."

The wind begins to kick up around the meadow. You can see the sky darken and flicker just for a moment before returning to normal, and a hollow sound echoes through the forest. Danielle looks back up and sighs once more. "We should probably wrap this up soon. I know that's a lot to soak in for once, but take my word with a grain of salt, 'cause I don't really know the total science behind those freaks. I'm basically regurgitating information that the Dragonfly taught me. So, any questions?"
