Sweet jesus 35€.   ???

Given the games market today this can be a hard sell. But so worth it if it's anything like dom4 multiplayer. Assuming you're into said multiplayer. It's ok in singleplayer too I suppose.
I'll be buying this first thing after temporary poverty passes, which shouldn't be long. To support the dev as someone said, and I know that even at full retail this will have a ridiculously good € per hour value.

I maybe lied a little bit.  How's Yomi/Shinuyama/Jomon?  I've never really been able to wrap my head around them.  I see EA they don't hire their oni anymore, but built temples and get them as freespawn, which is an interesting change, and they still seem to have Chaos Power, which I've seen a lot of people say is actually a weakness.  Turmoil hits gold production and they're really gold-heavy, and all that.

Flexible, but weak has always been my impression of them - lots of magic path variety, but they're spread out.  Easy water access, but in like all three ages they tend to have kinda weak troops except for EA's oni (which will be less prevalent now, since they're freespawn now rather than hired?).  I guess I've just never managed to figure out how to play them, am I missing something?

With LA Jomon... I seem to recall I just talked myself to barely survive till mid-late game and just rolled over everything with mage supported samurai armies from there. Can't remember whether I actually won or lost that match  :P Seemed to follow a similar pattern with MA Shinuyama, based on my tests in singleplayer (or did I play them online at some point? Maybe?). MA just had more badass mages. And cheap goblin hordes as opposed to expensive samurai hordes. But basically mage supported armies and suicide earthquake/rain of stones/etc. mages is how I ran them MA/LA. Less suicide in MA with their ogre mages. Did ok. Fun if you enjoy that sort of play. I don't think they're near 'strongest' nations in their ages, but multiplayer Dominions is enough of a diplomatic mess anyway that it doesn't matter as much I don't think.

Flexible but weak sounds somewhat appropriate.

... now it's coming back to me. Huge samurai armies, cast 'flight' on everything and then spammed earthquake. Good times.

*emerges from hiatus*

By cosmic coincidence I just happened to check Illwinter's web page today to see just how out of date my Dom4 version is. "Holy cow, Dominions 5 released today!?". Not the best time for me to be spending 30€ on a videogame, so I'll wait 'n see for a bit. But consider my interest piqued for early 2018 PBEM funtimes.

Possibly KOTOR? Definitely not the second game but I remember the first one being over with pretty quickly as far as RPGs go.

It didn't overload you no. Excruciatingly long tutorial + 5 plot planets + spoiler bits. I'd like to say that I maybe possibly did my first playthrough in 40-50 hours? Subsequent runs were close to or around 20h.

Icewind Dale was a bit shorter than Baldur's Gates were, from what I remember. Bit less RPG, bit more hack 'n slash.

Jade Empire was quite reasonable.

Fallout 1 was fairly short, but I had big issues getting comfortable with it. Could just be me but it didn't feel like it had aged as well as these other games. But I do think it's oldest too. Had fun with it once I 'got' it though.

Still, that's pretty cheap and you might like killing some time in Eador.

Agreed. Not a bad way to spend a dollar if you enjoy exploring new games and have a fondness for HoMM-likes. I seem to recall that you can play a mage and burn stuff. I quite liked it.

How do you guys prep for a MP game with humans?

Make a pretender build, play 10-20 turns. Tweak build, play 10-20 turns anew. Tweak as necessary. Object of 10-20 turns is to get roughly province a turn. If I'm really serious I do it until I can expand reliably and efficiently. Usually I get it close enough and call it done.

Then I fail at expanding anyway.

Oh and I probably look at what everyone can recruit to come up with a very vague idea of what I might be facing in the first war or two.

There's pretty much no preparation on how to conduct mid-late game MP game. It comes down to experience and gut feeling.

1 or 6, for reasons mentioned. Sometimes I go above if the situation calls for it. Some indies in particular seem to punch above their cost. Crossbows are particularly lovely, though even barbarians can smash faces with one or two durability buffs.

I'm playing marignon in a game and haven't bothered with communions because it's easier to just have one dude cast light of the northern star, and still have all the mages available to spam stuff.

Clams of pearls help, too, since they can allow casters to self-buff without needing to burn real pearls in every battle.

In that situation I might still use a small communion to cast some bigger spells. 1 or 2 masters-4 slaves kind of stuff. No spells spring to mind now but I'm sure there's some. But for massed stellar cascades spam or such I would definitely go with masses of S2's just for their immediate effect. Basically I view communions as fragile, rickety contraptions that might have a huge payoff. Not something I like to rely on in huge numbers.

I like LA. Not fully sure why. Less annoying stuff when it comes to popkilling dominions and elves. Though I'm not actually sure if LA has the least popkill.

Might be the general theme/look of it. While all ages have cool nations I think I prefer the comparatively "high" tech/low magic setting. More contrast like that, giants of Gath feel more mythical than giants of Hinnom. Higher tech all around and low-tech LA nations like Gath and Jomon just feel more special amongst all the crossbows and full plates. Settings-wise I prefer LA with EA magic settings. I just can't stand the lack of gems. Far as I'm concerned magic system is big part of the fun in this game and gems directly help or hinder that.

Step 1: Go insane
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Prophet

EDIT: Also, I don't think I've shared this on here yet.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's a Tyranid Broodlord with Scything Talons I converted and painted for my brother.

That purple is bloody awesome.

It tends to result in people giving their commanders really dumb names which I don't care for. But if that means people have more fun with the game then I'm all for it.

I guess there's a real case for turning it off if you play no-diplo games.

Invisible Inc is so good! DLC is your standard "more of the same" deal. Some new gear, enemies, campaign stuff. It's all good. Might as well get it, I guess? Base game by no means needs it, but if you have a few extra bucks to spare.

Shadows of Mordor was fun, but easy. Spent most of my hours playing that one challenge mode that was "kill all the warchiefs". Basically campaign without any of those stupid cutscenes or plot missions. Just run around, slice some uruks. Fun times. Almost like a fantasy GTA in that respect. If you find it too easy, I'd advice not to take any health upgrades and turning off combat prompts. It's still on the easy side but margin of error is pretty low. Makes for some tense moments. [edit: add in self-imposed limited lives challenge and you're golden. Doing a 1-life run can get pretty harrowing.]

Steam doesn't do any mid-sale super discounts anymore, right? If something's 50% off now that's as cheap as it's going to get during the sale. I'm pretty sure I remember reading something like that, but it could've just been wishful dreaming.

So how's the game right now? Any bugs or glitches we can expect to be fixed within a year? Near future DLC that might be of interest? I'm tempted, but hovering between buying now or waiting till Christmas. I remember reading and seeing a lot of glitches at release and haven't paid much mind to this since then.

Hmmm, normally i would, but i can't find any address/contact on llamaservers website.

Check the end of your llamaserver email. Any of them. It's at the end. Not sure if you need it now, but for future reference if nothing else.
