So, yeah. I feel like we could use this thread, considering that tomorrow everyone that still has to go to school will have to go to school. Yaaaay. :c

Experiences, expectations, shitty roommates, as long as it's school-related it's relevant. I don't really have anything to contribute as of yet, altough I guess it's cool that I'll see all my friends again. It's in a different building than last year, tough, so gotta get used to it.

Other Games / Roguelikes for Android?
« on: July 22, 2013, 07:16:55 am »
So, soon I'll have a journey  by car that'll probably take at least ten hours. I want to have something fun (Fun) to play that isn't arcadey or a falling sand game. Do you guys know any free roguelikes that'll work on an Android tablet?

So, I've been thinking about this and think it would give some nice discussion.

Say, humanity dies today. Nothing changes about the climate or anything, all humans just fall over and get a heart attack and die. Pacemakers explode. 10 000 years pass, and aliens with FTL travel find our earth, and colonize it. They start digging, and find archeological traces of us. Or do they? Where would they find our stuff, what would they find and how would they interpret it?

Life Advice / Civilization 4: Wait & keep or ask for a refund?
« on: February 13, 2013, 07:02:24 am »
So, you probably know that Civilization 4 simply refuses to work on my computer.

Now, Steam support has really given up on it:

Hello,

A staff member has replied to your question:

Hello Miauw,

I apologize for the inconvenience. We would be happy to assist you with returning this preordered title. We can either add the amount instantly to your Steam Wallet for future Steam purchases or refund the purchase back to the original payment method (may take 3-5 business days to process). Please let us know how you would like to proceed.

Now, I would like to ask you guys for advice on what I should do: Ask for a refund and buy another game, or keep Civ 4 complete until I get a computer that will run it?

Life Advice / Recovering a .vdi?
« on: February 08, 2013, 06:41:59 am »
Virtualbox decided to fuck up my .vdi. I renamed it, tried to clone it to a different one wich wouldn't work for whatever reason, named it back and now it won't work.

Oh, and it also won't change settings ad givess an error when you try to save stetings.

E: Also, I don't really understand how Civ 4 works. I have 4 games in my steam library, and if I want to play Bts, do I just need to launch Bts or the Civ 4 one?

Life Advice / Civ 4 won't start
« on: January 13, 2013, 08:18:37 am »
So, I bought Civ 4 and installed it recently.

The problem here is that it doesn't start. When I start it without steam it says "Couldn't find steam" and opens the steam front page in my browser. When I open it with steam, it says "Starting Civilization 4..." for a few seconds and then dissapears nothing really happens.

I bought it trough Steam, I actually bought the complete edition (aka, all the dlcs) if that matters. I'm running Windows 7, my video card is... AMD radeon HD 5650 IIRC. I have tried validating files trough steam, but aborted it because it took ages and was still at 0%. Google results tell me to delete the cache files, but I can't find them.

Logs that I found:

Spoiler: xml.log (click to show/hide)
resmgr.log is empty.
Spoiler: PythonErr2.log (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: init.log (click to show/hide)

So yeah, anybody have an idea how to fix this?

Creative Projects / The Christmas Avatar Thread
« on: December 21, 2012, 06:48:29 am »
It's that time of the year again, and many people are shopping their avatars to include the festivities. Will you? This is the place to brag about it.

I'm not entirely happy with mine, but the head of my avatar is so close to the edge of the image ;_;

General Discussion / When will the world end next?
« on: December 13, 2012, 02:49:42 pm »
Hello Bay12, today i have a very important question for you.

We all know that the world will end on 21 december 2012, but what if the minute chance that it does not is true? What if the poles don't shift and the earth explodes and crusts move and volcanos and shit happens and then zombies?

When will the world end after that?

Creative Projects / Have to draw a "dream car" for school. Advice?
« on: November 03, 2012, 08:44:43 am »
So i have to draw a "dream car" for school, for some reason. I'm just planning on doing a simple car with a helicopter propellor thingy on top of it and the special helicopter thingy on the back. Then draw it when it would be "retracted". But anyway, my problem is that if i were to say that i was good in drawing, i would be sentenced to life because that is such a big lie. I have no idea how i have to do this. Does anybody have any advice?

General Discussion / Awesome teachers you had
« on: September 06, 2012, 12:27:35 pm »
Nearly everybody in B12 is probs in middle school or college or even past that.
So yeah, i guess everybody had at least one mildy crazy/awesome teacher.
As i guess these stories can probably be slightly amusing i decided to make this thread.

I so far had two awesome/crazy teachers.

1. My drawing teacher. He was a little bit abnormal, but an incredibly nice guy and good teacher. He always said that my things were good, even when i knew they werent good, as i cant really draw for shit.

One day, he was going to explain something, we were drawing bugs from pictures, so he cut the form of wings out of transparent paper for somebody so she/he could draw it correctly, he had them on his desk, and he put them on a pen.

Teacher: "Whats this?"
Random kid: "A dragonfly!"
Teacher: "No, its a piece of paper in the form of wings on a pen"
Me: "Ceci n'est pas une pipe?"
*teacher starts telling stuff about René Magritte*
A while later:
Teacher: "Alright, what was i going to explain again?"

God i loved that teacher.

2. Just today, a teacher i havent had before, he's a nice guy and funny, used sauce on fries as a methapor for politeness.

Teacher: (to me) "If you go get some fries, what sauce do you like on them?"
I was quite surprised, as i'm usually the silent one and i dont really like to be the center of attention.
Me: "I usually get mayonaise or ketchup..."
Teacher: "Do you like your fries without sauce on them too?"

And the conversation continued for a few questions.

Now, tell me your awesome conversations with your teachers.

Life Advice / Is my laptop failing?
« on: September 03, 2012, 07:38:25 am »
Alright, so i have a fairly new laptop that can run nearly anything good, has a good graphics card and such, but i think its failing, does anybody recognize this problem?

Sometimes, usually only once per day, the laptop freezes. I cant do anything, cant move my mouse. After about half a minute it unfreezes and i can continue, and all the random keymashing i did while it was frozen gets done at once.

I think its overheating, but i'm not sure, so any help is apreciated.

Creative Projects / !!Magma Cat!!
« on: August 26, 2012, 09:02:14 am »
So yeah, i crave a new avatar so i have decided to make !!Magma Cat!!.
I am nowhere near proffesional in this, but i'll follow MZ's advice on how it should look:

You need to add three things: A background full of &s instead of stars, a c instead of the cat, and instead of the rainbow?

‼MAGMAAAAAAAAAAAAAA‼

I'll post some updates here, the end result should be animated. I got a CP-437 picture from wikipedia, and adjusted it a little bit so the dwarves look like those in DF (even tough i dont think i'll be using them). I plan on using only the things on that codepage, even tough i will have to resize them myself as paint.net automatically antialiases it.

Also, i'll probably upload the things i used and resized for you guys to use. The lack of things to use for DF parodies is disturbing.

Current Progress:

98x98 Grey "c" in the middle of a 400x400 picture.
