DF Suggestions / Re: Every building should BE a stockpile
« on: August 02, 2014, 11:55:02 pm »
I think ultimately, workshop tasks should be split into multiple steps and buildings. To that end, having a stockpile as a separate thing from, say, a forge is a good thing. So I think there are better ways to solve the problems you're aiming for.

It does seem reasonable that workshops have a way of showing which stockpiles are linked to them.

Linking building to building could be a way to create multi-step work tasks, but for that to work, you'd want the same dwarf using both workshops stations. For example, you could have a gem polishing workshop linked to a gem encrusting workshop. Then the same dwarf would polish a batch of gems, and proceed to encrust them on some objects. Alternatively, the present system of having too queues, with a stockpile between, for polishing and encrusting would still be possible.

Seems that DF denizens are all fatalists! Their cruel lives determined long before they are born. I'm gonna go watch reruns of Hans Beinholtz on the Colbert Report to property get in the mood for playing DF.

Dwarf Therapist is at v23.3 now.  Pheobus' tileset is at v0.40.05v02. You might wanna update.

I think flint (or chert) weapons should also be used this way, cause historically they were more common than obsidian.

I think there are two issues here:

1) Generated buildings should not be made of economic stone that is better suited for it's economic purpose.
2) Some stone types are not suitable for making constructions out of, and should be disallowed as materials for them in both generated and player designated constructions.

What is the deal with underground animal men turning into vampires? There a lot of them running around, killing people at towns, and it looks like they don't mind to hide their identities as a vampire. In legends I saw one that got cursed by a god by profaning a temple, this is intended?
It is intended that Animal Men become vampires or the frequencies of Animal Men Vampires intended?

The fact that they are profaning temples.
Profaning temples is the normal way to become a vampire. The only problem is, where do these animal people find temples to profane; aren't they all on the surface in cities? So I guess it is probably a bug; underground populations shouldn't profane temples.

This is cool, and I look forward to being able to use it.

I uploaded a linux version Here, since wurli isn't updating.

I guess the child did non consider why the conflict started. He just saw a fight, and decided which side he liked more. It's the new version of a loyalty cascade. Best to watch the survivers to make sure they don't get into more fights over this.

I agree with the medical jobs teaching discipline suggestion. Being able to work around corpses shouldn't come with a just a title, but choosing your CMD to be the most level headed dwarf in the fort should be a smart thing to do.

It seems grates in the path of the well bucket don't work in this version; when the grate was placed, my well showed as dry. Same with bars.

Not that I've ever seen. Or did that change lately?
I think they're only wearable in adventure mode, and nobody but an adventurer would wear them.

I've seen it on one of my dwarves.

You can do pretty well with an LFSR if you make the register wide enough. The basic advantage of it is that it's easy to implement in dedicated hardware. You can make a really wide register without using a lot of space.

Mersenne twister, in contrast, uses a lot of RAM data to store the state for it's relatively short seed. It's good for software PRNG, but if you're making it in hardware, I'd use something else.

Why not just use a LFSR (Linear Feedback shift register) for a random number generator?
