Stone, rare? What are you talking about?

Thank you for the work you do.

This! Vanilla is very nice, but the Lazy Newb pack adds just that little je-ne-sais-quois that makes DF an even more fullfilling experience. Thanks guys and/or gals.

But so called FPS forums aren't tremendously smug about themselves, so I guess you could call it even.

I posit that hoping people will change their manners, feelings and behaviour because of reading one thread on some internet forum is adorably naive.

P. much.

You guys ever been to RPGCodex?

Friendly advice. If you're even slightly thin skinned don't go there.

And if you do, then you will discover general discussion. And then you will die. ~el Fin

I approve above suggestion

DF General Discussion / Re: DF and "Gender"

Whelp, some people really work hard at finding sexism in the most banal things.  Maybe if you didn't spend you waking hours obsessing about everyone being offended and oppressed by everything, life would be a bit more enjoyable.  It's not very helpful to the rest of us either; as a (swedish) female statistics professor told me: "thirty years ago people saw me and thought: she became a professor even though she's a woman (impressive). Now people think I became a professor thanks to being a woman."

Also, evolutionary biology is a well developed scientific field with solid roots in statistics and research.  If you're going to discount all of it just like that, you'd better provide better than "because I said so."

Wow!  You could be DFs official artwork maker.  Imagine the main menu with a background in that vein.

And most likely fake. As far as I know, self-fueled perpetual motion does not exist. :)
And the logic defying build certainly doesn't help convincing me that it's real.

Uh yeah it says so in the article...  It's an optical illusion, the awesome part is how well it's made.

Oh punctuation, we hardly knew ye.

But yes, DF is awesome.  Several of the newer additions like burrows, the new military, and hospitals have added a lot of enjoyable (if not always newb friendly) complexity which make me come back to it again and again.  Latest fun: animals needing food to survive.

Seems there's skill decay in RL as well :D

Funfact: had exactly the same problem as you OP when I restarted playing recently, and I'm a real veteran (played all major versions extensively, including 2D).  So don't feel bad  :)

This has happened before, most commonly because someone just extracted a newer DF over an older one.

Which you should never do btw

I've done 26 ingame years (duuh) but there's almost certainly someone with more DF mileage

EDIT: Flarechannel, how many years?

Protip: a mature forum doesn't need to keep mentioning it's mature, it just is

Also, to further the politically incorrect speculation, does white-knighting for black people make it... black-knighting?

DF General Discussion / Re: Forgotten Beast Killing The Easy Way
« on: November 08, 2010, 07:16:08 pm »
Brings a tear to the eye, doesn't it?

It's too bad forgotten beasts are so hit-and-miss right now; you can't really feel good about killing them since some are about as tough as papier maché.  But on the other hand, a few of them are real fortress killers (mostly through syndromes), which means that there's that little excitement every time one shows up (at least until you've checked their description).
