Hehe, so I was just playing my fort when something funny happened. An ettin appeared from the side of the map. So this is my first semimegabeast, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but then one of my army (a swordsdwarf) rushed out and engaged it in combat. A few minutes later, the ettin was dead. When I checked the combat log, I was amazed, not only because it had been killed by a lowly "adept" swordsdwarf in iron (With one leg!), but also died to blood loss when said dwarf cut off its big toe. Are semimegabeasts always this weak, or is Kikrost here just really lucky?

My two miners are apperently in a competition to see who can murder the other fastest by channeling the ground out from below them. So far all of Urist McUnlucky's limbs are crushed.

Mine's not really that great, but I like it nonetheless.
Visecradle, a lignite bed
This is a lignite bed. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encrusted with rock crystal, decorated with oak and encircled with bands of lignite and iron. This object menaces with spikes of lignite, pin jade and iron.
On the item is an image of Vinena Tamecrows the elf in rock crystal. Vinena Tamecrows is traveling. The artwork relates to the journey of the elf Vinena Tamecrows to The Plains of Twisting in the midsummer of 14 during the Fifth Journey of the elf Vinena Tamecrows.
On the item is an image of Visecradle the lignite bed in badger leather.
The funny thing is, this was made right after an elven caravan left the fortress. I think the dwarf who made this wanted to wish them safe travels, or something.
EDIT: And as soon as I post this, some random dwarf makes a perfect brown zircon with bands of brown zircon that manages to be worth more than this (48000). What.
Also, self-referencing. Yeah.

My first fort:
"Oooh, what does "channel" do?"
I ended up flooding my 1 z-level fort by digging a channel into the mayor's bedroom. While he was sleeping in it.

Hey guys, I'm new to DF and loving it so far!
So I'm still trying to figure out channeling, when my two miners somehow end up in a hole and for some reason refuse to dig their way out. So I start this whole metalwoeking operation to make another pick to rescue the miners, when one of them dies.
"hey, I can still probably get the other one, right?" I thought.
Out of curiosity, I looked at the remaining miner's thoughts.
"Lost a wife to tragedy"
...Oh no.
Of course, he died of thirst soon after. As soon as I got down there with a new miner, I built them the best tomb I could, with iron walls and coffins.
