Its not like Macchiarini was the one and only person in the bio-engineering trade. I think the scandal is being given more importance and attention because apparently it involved outright fraud (which isnt a world first either), because of the prestige of the involved institution, and because of the importance of some people who have fallen in the fallout.

@re: parabiosis: The effect has been known for a while, and been shown to appear in several tissues. IIRC there was even a trial in humans scheudled...
Ninja'd by resident bloodologician re: parabiosis. It's pretty cool stuff though. Interesting that it seems to imply a failure of repair being more important than the damage leading to amyloid formation itself - the paper reports a full recovery in some areas, so if you're feeling forgetful, start filing these teeth...

Macchiarini's case reminds me a lot of the scandals around Charles Vacanti with stem cells. Matter of fact, they might be cousins by way of the bone marrow stem cell thing but I'd have to check. I suppose the lesson here is that if you see a claim that a brilliant researcher finds a way of easily fixing something with sexy fashionable tech, assume it'll end in at least one tragic death of a largely innocent third party.

Ah, Nova Aetas, long time no see.

Would you happen to know if those shaders make it look like the screenshots in the Workshop? Because if so, I, uh, think I'll skip them.

So the week of feelings-jamming and nerding out with dad is drawing to an end, and he happens to share some free form jazz
And I just get so happy because he accidentally mirrored a certain situation

I think he was a little surprised and happy that I was so into it (:
I honestly was, though.  Thing is, I already appreciate free form jazz thanks to that silly short.
I may have been too into Homestuck at some point the last... 5 years apparently, and It Don't Stop.
I know this is mostly phrased like that because of the reference and I'm probably being an ass, but...

Thelonius Monk isn't nearly the weirdest Jazz can get.

One reason I like games that have different level areas. In the low level places you're STILL going to kick arse, rather than going back and, oh hey, the guys there are suddenly in full plate armour +10000
Didn't Skyrim actually do that? I recall one of the Bethesda engine RPGs post-Oblivion would 'lock down' the area, so an area you explored on low levels would still be low-level when you came back to it.

Good for both.

Tried to load up Cossacks: European Wars: Back to War due to a previously posted meme that made me want to play it again, but it has some compatibility issues with Windows 7(that only get worse the higher the version you go).

And Cossacks 3 launches in nearly another 2 weeks. :'(

The Steam version of Back to War works perfectly without any of the obnoxious compatibility problems my disk version had.
What kind of compatibility issues we're talking? Because when I tried to play Cossacks, it ran alright, but it ran at sanic speeds even at the lowest speed settings.

I wish there were a game where you played as a necromancer. Not an all-powerful Diablo-style necromancer, you're just a dabbling novice in reanimation, and you must start from grave robbing with your own two hands until you have armies of undead monstrosities to do your bidding.
Late to the party, but check out Solid and Shade mod for Mount and Blade (NOT Warband). It's pretty much exactly this.

TBH, Loyalists as a side in Rev is just an awful, pointless artifact from the merging of the two Revs and Mutiny. I would remove them from the spawnlist for regular rev and whip up old-style Antirev (i.e. the Heads are the antags formally, and their express job is to be assholes), but then I'm not sure it wouldn't instaend the round, and there are more pressing matters to attend to code-wise.

An oath, or any contract really, is void when made under duress. If your character is revved less than willingly, you could simply surrender to the next sec officer and ask to be taken into protective custody, then snitch out whoever coerced you. This way you put a complicated legal case into motion with ample opportunities for roleplaying.
That's a legal thing, which was introduced specifically because people would do otherwise. Gameplay does not have to comply with that.

It might make for more interesting scenarios, but a) we specifically have a policy against team-antag betrayals, b) would far more commonly result in Sec powergaming the snitch existing to GIT DAT nonexistent REDTEXT. An average Security member is in for chases and shootouts, not Spess Government 101.

TL;DR: No such thing as moral objectivism? Evolution (which, mind, is precisely what you just cited) provides a lot of principles to work off of (like fear of death! And pain! And desire to reproduce!), and I'd argue that they are pretty objective. Even if morality grows from the barrel of a gun, fear of guns is a pretty objective response, and a gun is a pretty darn convincing argument too.
Woo, meta-ethics discussion!

Fear of guns is not an objective response. Matter of fact, evolution-based meta-ethics IS morality growing from the barrel of a gun, it's just that the gun is abstract and its bullets may travel very, very slowly. This argument presupposes that an individual wants to continue existing. This is true for most people - but not all, so the objectivity of this system falls apart. You're, unconsciously, I think, arguing for enlightened self-interest meta-ethics in the guise of evolution.

Furthermore, evolution itself doesn't really have an agenda, it's a description of emergent behavior. Things that propagate become common. If you accept purely evolutionary meta-ethics, aggresively breeding and neglectfully abandoning your children to their own devices (r-selective strategy), for example, is absolutely ethically consistent. As is taking good care of your two-and-a-half kids. Both are things that humans can, physically, do, but one of these is nowadays seen as highly irresponsible.

There's also situations such as asexuality or congenital analgesia, in which cases those drives are more or less completely irrelevant to the affected individual, so they don't really *care* what evolution has to say about their need to breed or avoid walking into a ADS crowd control devices.

PSA: If, in rp-rev, either faction literally surrounds you at gunpoint and tries to FORCE you to swear loyalty, please feel free to do so and then shoot them in the fucking back.

Forcibly converting people in an explicitly RP-based mode is absolutely atrocious and should not be permitted under any circumstances.

Maybe ahelp too.
what. No? That's a perfectly in-character reason to join. Especially when Rev turns into Liberal Spacecrime Squad. And considering that there are players who won't join for ideological reasons, that's the only way for the gamemode to progress.

I consider 'OOC: It was rev?' a much, much greater failure mode than forceconversion, and RP-Rev does not allow for lolflashing which WAS an abusable mechanic.

Shooting your nominal faction in the back in a team-based mode that's not Paranoia mustn't be happening. If you ahelp in this situation, a sympathetic admin might de-rev you, but you DO NOT SHOOT YOUR TEAMMATES. It's an unparalleled salt mine, and it's an incredible mess for staff to untangle.

Oh, I was actually afraid I would have been late to today's game. I made a friend by way of a random street encounter and I only now was able to get to internet.

I really enjoy the various weapon addition mods, but I'm a bit annoyed that most of them require specific upgrades to use past Tier 1. I really couldn't afford 2000 supply to upgrade them all to magnetic, but I'd like to continue having the option to use them. Anyone know if there is an easy way to do that (other than cheating in the supply & alloys)?
The guy who makes most of the custom weapons with specific upgrades has the upgrade cost softcoded in configs. You can edit them to be zero and buy them concurrently with buying the vanilla mag/plas upgrade.

For as long as there have been lines, there have been people willing to read between them.

But who, I must wonder, is the brave soul that writes all the stuff that people read between the lines? That person must have some damn hard ruler-proof knuckles.
It's Steve. He's a perv.
