Considering losing 20-22 guys in JA2 was a goddamn disgrace, I'd say 20-22 dead bros is huge.

I'm tempted to buy this just for the Horatio race alone.

Those eyes don't look very healthy. I'd say they needed sunglasses...

...but who wears shades in the cold night of space?

Get it? Cause they're in space? That's all I got.

fqllve is right. Blizzard didn't betray us by making World of Warcraft (though, they did, because the canon has now been strangled to death). They still went on to make Starcraft II and Diablo III.

People come into conflict all the time. They act like they're still your buddy because they are.

I think if we're discussing the merits of GURPS vs. D&D, we're not actually looking with a critical eye. Almost every grognard on the planet can rattle off a list of games they think are superior to D&D. I wish I could say GURPS pioneered Disadvantages and weapon skills, as well, but that's untrue.

I would argue that GURPS isn't the Linux of RPGs, either. I don't think the OS analogy actually works in an industry with dozens of successful RPG systems, unless we were using server OSes. Even then, GURPS doesn't have the massive marketshare that UNIX has.

A game with a system somewhat similar to GURPS is the Song of Ice and Fire RPG (2008, I think). There's an example of taking that d6 concept and turning it into something cool and interesting to play.

I thought I was going to like it, because I'd always wanted a generic RPG (this was back when I was 14 or so and still really getting into RPGs that weren't D&D). My biggest issue was that the books were too complicated, but then when you had the characters made and were doing things, it was almost too simple. It also didn't really hold my interest, since the system itself wasn't exactly exciting or innovative (which is understandable, since it is an older game - but it's been many generations now, and they could have improved on it).

For generic roleplaying, Savage Worlds won for me. SW might not be everybody's cup of tea, since it's geared towards action and combat, though I used it to play an espionage themed game (Agents of Oblivion was, sadly, not that great a help in that regard). When I'm doign modern settings, I'll either do WoD or SW, depending on what I want the tone to be.

What I do like about GURPS is all the setting books. I read the hell out of those alternate universe sourcebooks.

Conversely, I never understood why I would want to play GURPS Traveller.

Its Steve Jackson. He made GURPS and Munchkin. Anything he tries to do will get people interested.

Funny, I hate both those things. >:-(

But I'm not an anti-Jackson Grognard. I liked this one pirate game he made once.

Do Americans get education subsidies like Canadians do? I didn't know that.

EDIT: Note that if you don't, it will actually cost you around the same amount at the end of the day.

On the topic of the poll - I already am a professional writer.

Of marketing materials. :(

His goal from the outset was to tempt the children into a dangerous situation.

Honestly, I thought training monkeys to deshell nuts and not eat them is pretty damn impressive, though they were replaced with geese in the movie.

And Squirrels in the other movie... Which I thought was odd since... Squirrels don't live anywhere close to peanuts.

It was always squirrels. There were never any monkies.

Also, they're walnuts, not peanuts.

We know that the seasonal transitions in Westeros are not different or more rapid than the ones on Earth because it has been Autumn since at least the end of Book 3. There are frequent mentions in Books 4 and 5 of the dangers of the sea during the Fall. There is mention in Book 1 of the seasons having once been normal (and, according to GRRM, the seasonal shifts are magical in nature), so the best conjecture is that they had already invented their calendar before the seasons started to last for too long a time. Old Valyria is an obvious Roman Empire allegory, so it is entirely plausible everybody is using the Julian Calendar.

It is somewhat clear to me that this society has the capacity to understand astronomy, as well, considering they have professional academics. Nobles (the main characters in this story) would have no difficulty following a calendar.

As for the peasantry: somebody probably just tells them, if they can't count it for themselves.

The way I hear it the movie was written by Gore Vidal to be ROME-esque, as the scene above illustrates. But halfway through they decided to turn it into a porn flick :(

You can definitely see where this could have been a simple movie about a hedonistic, power-hungry maniac. Bob Guccione (the owner of Penthouse) snuck into the studios afterwards and filmed hardcore sex scenes, then masterfully spliced them into the film so it looks like they're supposed to be there.

There's a lot of nice little historical facts in here, but there are times when you think "Wow, Gore, you missed a chance for a dramatic scene". It likely would not have been memorable if it wasn't so visually disturbing.

He loses his kooky appeal in the scene where he graphically rapes a couple, unfortunately. :(
