I do not understand why you continue to say that not believing something exists and believing that something does not exist is difference. Your analogies do not fit the description.

If the individual is uncertain, they are Agnostic, not Atheist. If you leave your piece of paper blank while the other person writes 'God', you don't just not have a belief system. You believe there is nothing on the page.

Then they tell me roguelikes are boring while they entertain themselves with  stories about how they try to launch a warthog 30 feet into the air for four hours to get an achievement or something.

To be fair, this is what we do in Dwarf Fortress, we just don't get any achievement for it.

So then Atheism is a religion because the their belief system is that Gods do not exist, and thus did not create the universe, did not supply the universe with a purpose, and (since without a Deity, the creation of the universe falls to conventional science to uncover) feels that the nature of the universe lies in conventional science.

All three of these points are covered. Feel free to pick this apart.

Please lay out the definition again so that everybody is clear.

Traveller and d20 play very differently. In fact, they are basically nothing alike.

Groupchat is any chat program that will allow multiple people to converse in the same window, including IRC, MSN, or AIM. It's best to do everything in the same medium, in my experience, for synchronization purposes. This is especially true for Traveller, where preparing equipment and travelling is a major aspect of the game. Also, PbPs like to die faster than chat pnps.

I don't think 1 AM Eastern Time works for anybody, though.

Because the definition of Atheism being put forward is 'the rejection of established deities' or even 'the rejection of people who believe in established deities' as a way of loop-holing the idea of Atheism being a religion (the latter is called prejudice, incidentally, and is bad).

I will say again: Rejecting the existence of something and not believing in it is the same thing.

I am not an Atheist, as I have stated several times in this thread.

I would be more likely to be labelled as a Deist or a Pantheist, both of which are religions.

EDIT: Your definition of God is a bit off. I might believe in ghosts, but not believe they created the universe, for instance. This is just me being nitpicky, though.

DF General Discussion / Re: Badass Patron Saints

If you are not a Catholic (I am not myself), you can still use this thread to discuss your favorite patron saints. For us, it's the same as having a thread discussing our favorite Greek Heroes or Egyptian stories. There's no need to tell anybody what you think of the religion itself here.

EDIT: Also, St. Simon Peter was the most badass. He cut off a guy's ear.

I also deny the existence of established deities, but I am not an atheist.

Rejecting the existence of something is the same as not believing in it. If you do believe in something, your rejections are lies because you do not actually believe what you are saying to be true.

Since I'm still assuming English is not your first language, try mulling this over in your native language until you find a definition that makes sense.

If I am wrong (and please tell me if I am), and you are a native Anglophone, please learn how to speak your own language before you criticize it for not being able to form the words you want.

How many times have you guys played through this game? There are more than just a few choices and outcomes you make in Dragon Age.

Please keep gender profiling out of any discussion about this game. I know plenty of women who play Dragon Age, and there are romantic options available to female characters, meaning it is not just a wankfest for males.

I found the storyline to be very compelling. What was the issue you guys had with it? 'It's a generic fantasy trope!' is not a valid answer for a game with in depth character interaction and fully fleshed background history, in my opinion. Literary and Theatrical Criticism needs to go deeper than that.

EDIT: For example, West Side Story is generally considered a masterpiece of contemporary theatre. But it's just Romeo and Juliet in a 1950s setting. Basic romance-tragedy trope, yawn, right? No, it's an amazing musical that everybody should watch.

Shakespeare, in turn, took his inspiration from older sources.

Most Fantasy draws from mythology from varying cultures, anyways. There's even a scene in the Bible where King David abandons his greatest general to die by pulling back and not reinforcing him so he can steal his wife.

Then again, there's so little that a person could do to me using information from my Facebook page, it's hardly worth worrying about.

You seem to be supporting Atheism being a religion pretty strongly in most of your posts without realizing (enough so that I thought this was what you were saying to begin with). Would you care to explain what sorts of beliefs about the creation, nature, and purpose of the universe one Atheist might have that differs from what another Atheist believes?

EDIT: And a denial of other religious beliefs is the same thing as believing in the non-existence of a deity, but said in a different way. Atheists have the belief that there is no higher being that created the universe, no overlying purpose, and the nature of the universe is rooted in scientific fact. Agree/Disagree?

The ship is a death trap. I left two adolescent norns alone for ten minutes once and came back to find they had walked to the Aquarium and taken the elevator down into a room filled with seawater.
