General Discussion / Re: [Poi~] Poi is once again permitted (Happy thread)
« on: November 01, 2019, 11:32:14 am »
So when I was a smol preteen, general lack of money meant I was extremely isolated from pop culture at large. No cable TV, sporadic Internet access, no new games, home school. The end result is my tastes got stuck in 2002 for about ten years.

I liked videogames, I also had a passing fondness for rap music. One fine day on the computers at the public library, I found nerdcore: rap music about videogames. 8 Bit Bullshit was one of my favorite albums, but then I found out the guy also put out more serious music. Since I didn't have anything else to listen to, he became my new favorite.

I realize now that it's probably not that great, but I still have a lot of love for the guy for having the balls to put himself out there with no money or label, just an amateur musician doing what he loved, because he loved it. Then I found out through his Facebook page that he now streams on Twitch every Thursday, he's a super cool dude and working to preserve a lot of retro game stuff that tends to get lost in the shuffle. Right now he's hunting for JP-exclusive Snatcher stuff and scanning old MSX magazines. Here's his website if you wanna check it out.

My only experience with anything even slightly similar to Discord is Skype, which was a dumpster fire that always dropped calls and crashed all the time.

I'm only active in three servers: one for the Extra Creditz game jam community, one with some personal friends, and one for an extremely small streamer (who happens to be a childhood hero but that's a different story.)

It's 7AM. Suddenly somebody is screaming bloody murder outside, to the point where it's loud as fuck through a closed window and closed door on the other side of the apartment. First it sounds like some kid fucking around because I hear laughing after each scream, then suddenly the screaming gets a lot more frequent and decreases in volume until it stops altogether. TF did I just hear

Went to a costume party at a bar. Had three shots of Fireball, partied with my wife, an alien, a T-Rex and Mother Nature, won $25 and some shot glasses for funniest costume. I'd like to give thanks to Mr. Fireball Whiskey for turning a $50 night into merely a $25 night and some nice memories.

USDA is already releasing ads saying things like "Only real milk gives you the nutrition you need," so the war on plant-based products and substitutes is progressing apace.

I'm actually starting to like plant-based meat substitutes just because they don't release so much damn grease that's hard to clean off. The lower calories and other health benefits are just side bonuses.

I shall repent for my horrendous casual sheeple non-gamer opinions. Please send me a flip phone, a boxed copy of Half-Life 2, and installation discs for Windows XP so that I my cleanse myself of the sins of "not experiencing any of the problems described" and "liking the new thing better than the old thing." ::)

The old system worked fine with my old 17" screen from a decade ago. My new large screen is capable of showing 3 games at a time, because Steam assumes you're running 8K or higher.

? ? ? ? ? ? ?

My screen's about 16", not even 1080p and I can see 24 at a time easily.

I don't get what the problem is. I was tired of straining my eyes picking through a list of 100+ ten-pixel-tall labels to find the one game I was looking for. Now the last few games I played get big icons on the front page, so I don't have to go hunting for them. Even the little scroll list on the left side shows the program icon so it's a bit clearer there, too.

I don't know what the performance hubbub is about either. My computer is dogshit and if anything the new UI runs better. Everything is more responsive and loads faster. I don't have to wonder any more if Steam's crashing or just choking on the store page.

I mean uhhhh, new thing bad. >:(

I hate driving, I hate not being able to drive, and I hate the fact that I need to be able to drive to do literally anything with my life.

It's like being stuck in a crowded supermarket aisle, except when you crash your baskets into eachother it can result in thousands of dollars of damage, tons of paperwork and phone calls, and maybe injury or death.

I need to get into some sort of adult driver's ed course, because learning with Mom is getting nowhere. She just yells and stresses me out so that I make more mistakes and then she starts yelling and I'm already done with the day before I've even gotten anywhere.

I also can't learn with my brother, because ever since his son was born he's been hitting the bottle like Ruth hits baseballs.

I don't have a problem with it, except it borked my categories so I now own 96 ARMA games out of a possible five.

I started playing MGS2 on the HD collection. A lot of scenes that I thought lagged the console back in the day were actually just intentional slow-motion.

This is why open source has a bad reputation:

Quote
cc1.exe - System Error

The code execution cannot proceed because libwinpthread-1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

So much dependency hell.... and searching for the cause is just full of "why would you ever try to do the thing you are doing? Just do it this other way..." with incomplete instructions.

Or "It works for me, you must be stupid or something."

Or the only thing that does what you want is some stupid buggy cobbled-together Python script that hasn't been updated since 2003 and only works on a very specific combination of hardware.

At my highest weight I was 210lbs, now at my latest doc visit I was 197. Some of that could be due to fluctuation, but I feel like it's enough to officially be Progresstm. I can wear a belt that I haven't been able to wear in forever, though only to the first notch, and I can fit into my favorite pullover hoodie again.

Blocked Reddit with a browser extension. Made the password for the extension some ridiculous long string without looking so I can't change it in a moment of weakness. Every sub I looked at was just a bunch of elitist snobs patting eachother on the back for being so snobby and elite. Every time I go there I just come away pissed off, even more so than when I had an account. This will be good for my general emotional health once I stop trying to check it every five seconds.
