I really wish there were more games that did that (I would've used Perfect Dark in my example, natch, but Goldeneye is pretty much the same game with worse graphics). Your reward for being better at the game is being allowed to play more of it, not intangible "achievements" or in-game collectibles that don't mean anything outside of that game.

In PD in particular, there's one level (possibly more?) where playing on the highest difficulty completely changes your starting position and weapons, which makes the mission a lot more dangerous due to the snipers (which are practically aimbots on the highest difficulty).

Dude how did you actually post the image in the thread?

Image tags. Click the icon that looks like a little painting in the "Reply to post" prompt. Copy-paste a direct link to your image (it will end in an image extension like .png or .jpg). Don't overdo it though, many Bay12ers are browsing on slow connections and lots of large images make it a huge pain to navigate a thread.

This is a masterwork simulation of dwarves in a fortress in C++. All craftstoadship is of the highest quality.

Havok integration is moving along smoothly, although I still can't stop dwarven brains from flying out of their skulls when they come to a sudden stop. For now I've just disabled gravity on them, but you'll still occasionally get dwarves dropping dead from their brain bouncing against the inside of their skull.

On a happier note, index of refraction is now fully simulated, although prisms of certain dimensions tend to magnify sunlight one thousandfold and spread it in all directions, resulting in many pages of "The ____ is melting!" and "The ____ is on fire!".

Just here to make my bi-weekly wish for a freeform online shooter with large physics-enabled structures that can be completely destroyed from the inside out. :P

Why can't there be a Zelda game set in the future? I would kill to see Malon reimagined as a motorcycle enthusiast who gives you the prize of her collection when you beat her in a sick urban street race.

It's not like we're going to have any other good sci-fi Nintendo franchises, now that Metroid's all but dead. :(

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: September 22, 2013, 11:55:43 pm »
well my 14 year old fort has had a vampire attack, only problem, the usual tactics will not work, we embarked on year 5 of the world so the vampire is no different from the rest of the dwarves.
I had recently marked all the barrels of blood and ichor  to be dumped, I'm wondering if my vampire has been drinking from them for the past three years instead of getting it fresher.
I have several dwarves that have no drinking thoughts, ok the one that likes mead, no I've not had mead in the fort, perhaps that dwarf just needs some mead, but the rest, I'm afraid I got a vampire blood spill in the well. Time to un-dump the blood, put them in a blood only stockpile and see who drinks there.

I don't think vampires are sated from drinking spilled blood, only by feeding directly on a living victim. That's how it works in Adventurer mode at least, I've never had a fort survive long enough to receive a vampire.

- Enabling temperature no longer instantly sets your computer on fire. Laptop users should now have time to throw their device away before it explodes, but desktop users are still SOL for now.

- Finally hunted down the last Agent hiding in the code. Had to regen the world, but at least most of the population is still fine and dandy.

- Dwarves can now be tricked into eating dwarf meat that has been sufficiently processed.

It's been less than five minutes since I embarked and a kea has already stolen a wheelbarrow. Great.

EDIT: Ten minutes into my first encounter with keas and I already hate them with a burning passion. They've stolen ten plump helmets, two ropes, a pick (!!!) and the aforementioned wheelbarrow. I am going into the RAWs and adding about ten zeroes to their internal temperature. >:(

EDIT AGAIN: Maybe this fort wasn't such a good idea in the first place. I picked "Play Now" instead of preparing for the journey carefully, and for some reason I thought I'd end up with an arrangement of dwarves that would make sense. I have a fisherdwarf and a fish cleaner that could easily have been a farmer and a second miner. Well, there's training for that, at least.

Google somehow already knows my real name (I probably gave it to them when I signed up for Gmail), but I'm always very careful to click the "Go fuck yourself" button whenever the popup occurs. I imagine it's only a matter of time before they force the change. I'll then have to delete everything and make an account on Yahoo or something.

Stub his toe, chipping it off and spilling magma everywhere. Which would cause him to rush to the hospital, setting everything he passes alight. When he immolates all his friends in the hospital, he goes into a temper tantrum, breaking even more stuff. Finally, he calms down and goes into the booze stockpile with his still-leaking foot, causing an event that can only be measured in Michael Bays.

WWUD if he discovered pre-Youtube Internet memes?

Killed in battle with 3 Darknuts at once. I had used up my last bottle of Superb Soup on the battle with several Redead + archers + rat ghost things, and I only had a few hundred Rupees left for my magic armor. Even if I'd had full health, I don't think I could have taken them.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Freezing enemies of any kind ever

I have never had fun fighting an ice-themed enemy that could freeze me. I always spend half the battle frozen, waiting to be put out of my misery by an enemy that could be easily defeated except for their stupid god damn freezing ability. Sometimes it can be almost like the infamous Silver battles from Sonic 06.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Opulence or functionality?
« on: September 22, 2013, 02:48:10 am »
Mostly functionality on my side. I had a few bad experiences, starting to smooth out floors and walls while not realizing that I'd forgotten to build a still. I also tend not to build kitchens, since it saves time to just have my dwarves eat plump helmets/prepared meat directly instead of constantly having the kitchens produce meals.

Ambushed by ~25 goblins with half that number of companions, we were surrounded and my companions slaughtered to a man. However, none of the goblins seemed to be able to land a hit on me. It took me a while to realize, but I had accidentally drank a vampire's blood earlier, meaning a massive speed and strength boost that saved me just in time. It was pretty confusing to be fighting for my life one turn, and then suddenly notice that I was standing in a pile of dead and dying goblins. I found a few gobbos standing around away from the carnage afterwards, but I'm pretty sure that I killed them all.
