We sealed the farm and fed the rabbits, and watch some sparrowzombies fly by. I made some steel weapons and armor for the militia, the only sighting above is a Giant Snail Zombie. I should feel safe now, right?

I mean, things have been calm, so much that the livestock population is growing. Those migrants that arrived in the summer seem to be good people, and they were smart enough to travel the mountains and avoid the swamp on their trip. We're working on booze and food production right now, and the miners plan to carve an entrance for any wagon that may wish to stop by.

A troll grabbed my pants in my sleep ! By Armok, I'll never shake that creepy feeling ! I would have been toast, but then 9 other dwarves jumped on the monster (including the new migrants). After a good-ol-fashioned beatdown dragged on, I was able to join in and punch his head in too. Our group has given me "the kill" as honorable mention to my bravery. Well, now we've hastily decided to split into two groups, the "Wall Building" squad and the "Troll Punch" squad, in case another one smells out our dining hall.

Some migrants had arrived while we were cleaning up the mess. They took the mountain pass to get here, so they avoided the horrible rain. They got here just in time to pickup all the scattered seeds and start walling the farm level.

A troll attacked us! It must have smelled the farm plot and found our fort. When the alarm was shouted, we all ran to the main hall and I was very nervous. But, when the troll crossed the bridge to our hall, I didn't feel scared... instead, I felt an inexplicable hatred. We all have worked so hard, with the zombie-rain/zombie-clouds/general-zombies/lack-of-folieage, that how dare a single troll try to stop us. So we all jumped on it, dogs included. We ... we must have pummeled it for several days, because i'm still shaking. Eventually I snapped to my senses and dragged the thing away from our main hall and we sealed it in a chamber. And I almost got sealed in ! Miyuki, our miner, said that she left an angry letter in the chamber, but I'm not going to ask.

Dear troll of RabbitHut

I saw you coming a mile away.

I didn't work full-time and work all weekend just so you could re-organize my stuff.
We've got too much to worry about with the rain/clouds/zombies/dearth of trees and grass,
so I hope you understand the overwhelming response to your mere existence.

You pathed directly to my farm plot and ruined it.
So when you bashed your way into our main hall,
you shouldn't have been surprised to see all the dwarves and 2 dogs staring you down.

You would've gotten my cats, but I de-pastured them so they properly 'fled' to the main hall.
We brought enough booze at embark that we have plenty of drinks.
And I didn't plant all my seeds, so we have backups.

If you can read this, then that means you've re-animated in our containment chamber.
You're going to be un-dead in there for a long time...
And everytime I walk by your chamber, I'm going to remember your 100+ pages of beating and smile.

Things have been steady lately. Hikari built a Smelter when I was sleeping, and I had a good thought about it my dreams. We have a small farm plot going, and we're slowly building an outside pasture. Of course, the craziness still happens, so we still stay alert. The weirdest thing happened when Yume tried to move the cats downstairs. One of 'em bolted towards the surface area like lightning. Somebody forgot to shut the front door !

Felsite went by fast. Mosquitos, eagles, wombats, clouds are still trying to kill us. One cloud almost jumped on Minami when we were walling-up the pasture. Miyuki breached the caverns in a good spot, so I started a basic farm plot. I saw a blind cave bear - it wasn't a zombie. If it's looking for food, then this dead cavern isn't a place to find any.

We butchered the yaks, and Minami was really good at hauling all the meat in one barrel. But, the Yaks are still moving in the butcher rooms... This is really messed up. The clouds of green murk keep passing by, the creepy rain keeps blowing, and now the dead cattle are moving (well, the dead ones inside our fort). Is this place really out to kill us? Is the search for MeltedPants really worth all this?

We got the bunnies out to pasture. We had to actually scoot their butts right onto the grassy spots. We were going to make a hut for them, but there was a pair of mosquito corpses that lurked in the distance. So we brought the buns back inside for now, and we must turn attention to our Yaks. With such spare vegetation, we'll probably butcher those things.

We've been working so much that we've all taken a spring break for good sleep and good eats. It's been rough, when we travel one direction, the evil cloud descends. When we go the other way, that mosquito corpse passes by. It's been exhausting, but the animals can't wait any longer. We'll lead the rabbits out to grass, and hopefully toss an enclosure around them. We break dawn tomorrow.

The miners had begun digging a tunnel to reach some surface grass. Almost immediately, a green cloud descended right in front of them. Those clouds and that mosquito corpse keep appearing everywhere. We had a meeting, and now we've decided to prepare two separate tunnels, to access different patches of grass. We have everybody working in tandem, hauling and mining, to prepare multiple exits just so that we can breach the surface in a safe spot.

We gathered the rest of our supplies inside. Additionally, some chairs, tables, and beds were also assembled, and we all celebrated a hard earned banquet. The day after, we spotted a green cloud outside, and Miyuki joked that the whole place was angry at us. It wasn't funny, but that glance did reveal that there is shrubery growing on the mountainside. The rabbits are looking at us with beady eyes, so our next goal is to get them to pasture. Still, I can't help but feel that the mosquito and cloud are still lurking out there...

"All right Urist McGrumpypants, into the box-o-joy with you. You'll be a whole new dwarf when you come out."

It's literally the same as when dwarves are let out of cages - there's a single "remove unit from item" function in the game's code (which is used when triggering cage traps, performing Release Pet/Slaughter Animal/Recover Wounded/Release Large Creature jobs, and numerous other places), and that function adds the "is happy to be free" thought to the released unit (and if it's not a member of your fortress and of your fort's race, then the thought doesn't get added).

I didn't see this mentioned on the wiki's Thoughts page.
Sounds like the perfect happy pill for a zombie-fighting militia.

When the creepy murky mosquito flew off, Minami and Nanaka ran outside to grab some supplies. They could only get two barrels of wine before returning and locking the door again. On a somber note, Yume found a large cavern, but it seems more barren of life than the surface. Rumors have mentioned that when a cavern is bone-dry, then it is bone-dead... We'll need to find a new pasture for our buns.
