If you turn the contents over then yeah, I can see that. I wouldn't have made the connection myself though.

Kennels are not involved in training anymore, that's why.

Use the animals menu.

Ah! Thanks! I wish that had been on the wiki.

So I'm trying to tame a creature, it is sitting in a cage in the animal stockpile but no option to train it appears at the kennels. So obviously I'm missing something. It's probably obvious.

1. Build farm plot with B then P.
2. Make sure every square of plot is Inside and on soil or mud with K.
3. Hover over plot with Q to make sure it's set to the correct crop for the season.
4. Have at least one dwarf with Planting(fields) labor enabled and isn't preoccupied.
5. Have some seeds available.
6. Make sure that the farmer has an accessible path to both the seeds and the farm plot.

If all of these steps are complete, then farming should happen.  Check all of these steps extremely carefully, because when these kinds of "My dwarf is starving" or "My dwarf won't do X labor," threads come up 9 times out of 10 the poster discovers that they accidentally closed off a path and swears up and down that they didn't.

Sadly no. My dwarves are walking all over the farms and steps 1-5 have been checked double checked and done again.

"Awessum Possum looses a roaring laughter, fell and terrible!"
"Urist McFarmer has been struck down!"

I once had a Great Macedwarf migrate to my fort with 174 kills. His jewelry made for great trade goods after the incident with the giant toad.

Can your dorfs reach the plump spawn?
Yes. It's in a lovely stock pile one z-level down, not forbidden, and dwarves are taking other items from those same stockpiles.

Yes I set plump helmets for all seasons on both farms.

You covered most of the stuff I'd ask about, so let me ask you this.  Do you have the seeds you're wanting to plant?  It's easy enough to select stuff that's on the list that you don't actually have seeds for, and you might have missed the cancel messages in the shuffle.
31 plump helmet spawn, yup.

Nope no burrows either.

So I've started a new fort and I just set up my farms. It's been two months and still neither of my farmers will go plant anything, I have plump helmet spawn, I have plump helmets set to every season, my dwarves have all the necessary labors, and yet they are standing around doing nothing "no job"! If they won't start farming soon there is going to be trouble. I've tried turning the labors off and on, I've tried putting different dwarves on it, nothing seems to work, I even built a new farm but still nothing. >:(

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Vampire babies?
« on: March 24, 2012, 05:39:36 pm »
So I decided to look in the history file for my new .06 world, and Lo and behold the first civ on the list:

The Armory of Fangs, Dwarves
 Worship List
  [snip]
 King List

  • Åton Laborshoved (b.???, Reign Began: 1), *** Original Line, Married (d.105)

        14 Children -- Ages: 248 247 246 241 237 234 231 226 223 220 214 213 203 191
        Worships Orshar Whisperguises (22%)

So that is the ruler list. Now the Queen is a vampire, but all of her children seem to be immortal as well. Do vampires have vampire babies? Or do dwarves just live longer than I thought?

Sounds like old age.
Ohgodeveryonerun
Old age: The deadliest killer in the multiverse. Responsible for uncountable sextillions of deaths. Flee, for Old҉͝҉ ̢̡́͘͢A̴̕g̵e̷̡͜͡ ̵̸̴̧͟c̵̨͠͡o͏̷̶͘̕m̡͠͏é̴̢͠s͘҉!!
Not in Dwarf Fortress it isn't!  Seriously, how many people actually have their Dorfs die of old age?
Hey I had this one who died peacefully, well died of peaceful causes. I wouldn't say he died "peacefully" what with the missing arm and all.
