DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Raw clear glass - useless?
« on: January 28, 2008, 08:06:00 am »Toady One, codedwarf, looks at the bug.
The spinning *photon* hits the bug or maybe not.
The bug gives in to quantum mechanics.
The bug is fixed.

« on: December 04, 2007, 05:49:00 am »If you set an item to be dumped, it is regarded by your dwarves as refuse.
So if it is outside, you have to enable outside refuse hauling in the <o>ptions menu

Good for extra (armor and shield) training. For the rest, I don't see any advantages, like you say.
DF Gameplay Questions / Re: train soldiers...
« on: December 04, 2007, 06:52:00 am »So take care when your n00b squad is sparring to have your veterans switch to active duty or crossbows.
In my recent fortress, I have a military of 12 dwarves (on a population of 70).
I first had them gain some attributes by training them with crossbows, then I switched them to wrestler, with iron chain mail and shields (alas no flux stone).
When their armor user skills were around proficient I switched them to short swords and plate mail, some while later to hammers, then to maces, axes, spears and finally back to crossbows. I think hammer skill is the most important next to crossbows because, when out of ammo, dwarves will use the crossbow as a hammer.
They are now at least talented in all military skills, a few are elite marksdwarves and some are elite wrestlers.
Strangely enough, I did not have any sparring accidents at all. (Maybe some really minor ones that I didn't notice). So I guess the trick is to train them in wrestling (reduces the chance to take damage) , armor and shield user ASAP. I can now face the goblins in the open with some four-legged barking help! Woohoo!
