DF Gameplay Questions / Animals to war animals

Ever since train war/hunting animal at the kennel was removed I have been unable to locate where exactly to give the order for my animal trainers to turn my puppies into man eaters. I have them in a pasture and I designated it as an animal training zone as well, but nothing initiates.

I've search high and low in the game and now i come to the forums for assistance. Thanks in advance.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Merchants! Go away!

Years, as plural. They never did anything. Doesn't matter large goblin siege ended the fortress anyways.

So many questions. So many possibilities. Did the other Dwarf merchants return in the following year? If not, will they resume trade if the caravan is released? Can trade be turned on/off at a whim using this method?

This was late fortress where I had 3 squads rotating their schedules every month, station the gate - train - off duty. Well by the time they picked up their training bolts it was the end of the month and maybe fired 2 shots off. They didn't consider themselves military yet several years in.

My point is, these "blips" feel like glitches and are causing me headaches.

Clay.  Use only clay.  Its aesthetically pleasing, consumes a ton of precious wood and lets you never dig and build up a fire clay pueblo fort. Bonus points for importing tin and kaolinite for tinting and porcelain.

Do you mean doesn't consume a ton of precious wood? Clay is almost cheating. Almost.

Certain things would affect it, like embarking on the side of a mountain on one embark will add that many z layers to the depth you will have to dig in that place. But comparing flatlands to flatlands on the same map, they should be the same rough z level down.

I feel like this makes them feel "drafted" again, and with it the unhappy thought. I'm not 100% sure if this happens but my dwarves well into their military careers still often have their "Upset with getting drafted" feeling for no reason.

I've accidently embarked without picks, also had my miners drown all at once. Its both terrifying and boring at the same time. The cloth industry ends up being the only route and its not nearly as glamourous.

DF General Discussion / Re: What platform do you play DF on?
« on: December 08, 2011, 06:20:43 pm »
I'm not usually one to throw specs out, but I usually play the game on a netbook with 1.66 GHz atom processor. Fortress mode games usually peter out at 70 dwarfs and 50 cats, but its still sufficient to get some good fun in while out and about.

Personally I'm not a fan of private organizing behind the scenes, it leaves it open to disappearing organizers (and with it the artists work) as well as would be contributors missing out on the thing entirely.

I'd recommend simply publishing articles via forum, that way everyone can compile and critique as we go.

Insanity will still be creeping, and he is a demon...

They use sweat.  Makes it stronger.

Why do large grazers need to eat so much that they physically cannot prevent themselves from starving to death?

The planet's ecosystem changed recently and these are just remnants from a bygone era of more abundant grass, just waiting to die really.

Why don't the demons just settle down and start a fortress?

Several authors submissions, vote on the best one if there is overlap I think. Also, Dwarfy is a general style that most contributors seem to have the hang of.
