DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Lost world save?
« on: May 20, 2010, 04:07:08 am »
If you can't reclaim, my guess is that the area still/again is up for embarking. So you could re-embark there, or if that's not possible, regen the same world (go into legends, and export something, can't remember what, but it should be clear) and then embark on the same spot.

Saddly I cannot access the 'world' itself at all via DF client :(

Looking at the region files itself the world.sav file is 704kb, but its only full of empty spaces... so I guess its gone, damn :(

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Lost world save?
« on: May 20, 2010, 12:49:00 am »
I was happily fiddling around with 0.31.04 ver, building my very best fortress (as always) and I decided to make a save. While saving however, DF crashed. Now after restarting the game, the save isn't under 'Continue' nor behind 'Reclaim'. Looking at the folder the save is still there though.

Any ideas how I can fix / rebuild the save? :)

Not that I mind, I can always start a new fortress but I really loved the zone :D

The continuing effort to grow a proper DF beard for the DF meetup is ongoing, but stymied by genetics.

I like the kitten. But I'm worried that if you replaced that guitar with a banjo you will have mistakenly completed your transformation into a hillbilly.

edit: sorry for posting this I just couldn't resist.

Awesome comment :D

I'm runnin 40d2 still. I haven't myself had any issues so far.

In 40d I had approx 15-24fps after first year on 4x3 or 4x2 map.
On 40d2 I have 80 fps on 6x6 map (I got fps limited to 80)

On selfmade ~40 tile wide waterfall down 4 z-levels straight in to a aquifer... it dropped to 50 fps :D

My comp has decent amount of ghz, good amount of memory, but very very very bad onboard 3D card. The accelerated DF really improved everything on me.

The new DF doesn't even run for me. On running the .exe, I get an error prompt telling me the application failed to start because it's configured improperly.

I tried downloading a fresh version of the package, and got the same results.

Do you have visual c runtime libraries? If not, installing it might help :)

I can't run it, it execute the file but nothing is showing, it is however using up all my cpu

Can you post your computers specs and information about the program from Event Viewer? Baughn is going to need those, he can't do anything without any info :)

It doesn't seem to work on windows 98. "\BATTLE CHAMPS:EXE file expects a newer version of Windows. Upgrade your Windows version."

I realise this probably is a ridiculously small group of people consisting of me and perhaps one other guy, but is it a huge problem to make it work?
Otherwise this will actually be the first game that I want to play that will require me to upgrade the OS..

If its only filespecific, you could try 'hacking' it with MS Orca. You could delete checks and such from the file, but if, like Baughn says and the file requires libraries that don't support 98, you won't get much from it still ... Might be worth the shot :)

Tormy: Thanks for the link, I gotta explore when I have more time and my laptop ain't needed for important stuff :D

This is probably vista related, nothing works on vista anyhow, but when trying to run BC I get message:

What are you talking about? I have x64 Vista, and even the old DOS games are running on it perfectly... ::)
It is YOUR Vista what is problematic.
..as for your problem:
Try to reinstall the visual c runtime libraries.

Works nicely now, thanks :)

But Vista is still huge pile of .... funky stuff. It either works, or doesn't work at all (and it usually doesn't work at all) where as XP always works, sometimes worse than other times, but it works :D

edit: This is talking about non-gaming things. XP works soooo much better. Dunno how Vista handles games. My laptop has so terrible 3d card I can hardly play anything anyhow :D

DF Modding / Re: Metal-specific Weapons
« on: December 20, 2007, 04:45:00 pm »
You could make 'special' weapons, for example "[BASIC METAL] Battle Axe coated with [Name of your special material that adds burn damage]", and material requirements are that one special metal (or integredient) + regular metal and such  :)

Maybe, if possible, even limit it like Adamantium, not visible at start (or something liek that)

New additions, version 0_2 is the newest  :)

Other news, hmm... already forgot what I was supposed to write. Oh yeah! Test played for a bit more, they work fine, quite fun, if I may say... They're weak, I had 7 kobolds, 2 with axes, fight off crocodile and axe kobold died and one random peasant  :)

Oh yeah, should the 'distribution' to be seperate .txt files, or post of the 'code' changes instead of actual zip with the new files?
