Wait, where did I say anything about exploits? It's because I'm too lazy.

602
I've been having trouble trying to get into this necromancer tower. I really want to be a necromancer, so I can pretty much kill everything, but I'm having trouble actually getting far enough inside.

The tower has basically 3 floors. The first one, ferociously guarded by several necromancers and an undead swarm. Really small sized tower, but the undead fill the room to the brim. Then, there is a staircase leading up, a small hallway going to the other side of the tower, then the next floor pretty much contains the holy grail. the problem is that when entering the next floor, it opens a hatch which allows all the undead inside to curb-stomp me, and I'm getting really frustrated because I lose almost all of my party on the first floor.

I've already tried to hide and throw sand. that works somewhat, one thing I wonder is that if I kill the necromancers on the first floor, then leave the are and travel, then return to the tower right after, will there be the other necromancers randomly distributed? (I'd take all the corpses and leave them in the woods.)

And any other tips for storming this place please. (no were or vampire exploiting, too hard to find.)

603
The goblin at the "fun" lever pulls it again.
The hatch in the wall closes.
The water has gotten slightly louder.

604
You people are insane, you know that?

You decide that pulling all the levers at once is a logical idea, since nobody can pick locks.
Three goblins go up to the levers, the goblins all pull at once.
The goblin under the science lever is suddenly doused in a purple liquid that came from a compartment above. He shrugs as to what it is.
A slot in a wall, to small to fit through opens up. You aren't at the angle to see inside it. It's about chest level.
You also hear a click.

The water is getting louder.

I decided that for easy viewing, I'll begin to display actions/trap events in red, your orders in standard black, and environmental things in blue. Any other thing, such as enemies like dwarves, their actions will now be displayed in purple. It's mainly organization.
If you don't like that system, speak up and I'll remove it.

605
you head down the hallway hurriedly, and come to the door, as you pull it, it's locked. The lock is visible, and if you break it you may not be able to seal it off. You personally aren't able to pick locks.
There is a grate on the ceiling, without visible water, as well as three levers on the wall to your right.
One is labeled 'fun'
Another labeled 'science'
The last one labeled 'Urist'

You know that the word Urist means dagger as well as a common dwarven name.
You don't know dwarven slang too well though.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / On forgotten beasts.
« on: March 16, 2012, 03:49:34 pm »
Welcome all to this wonderful tale,
Where dwarves will die and drink some ale.
See all strange habits and things,
Silly dwarves and snails with wings!
All will know the meaning of fun,
And dwarves from rabbits, will run.
This tale begins a fortress of stone,
That holds many piles of bone.

A fortress of a name Unknown,
Lies a story that is not well known.
As a party of seven came,
Leader with a heart of flame.
Helped by a pick,
Built many a fortress, quite quick.
He declared "strike the earth!"
By their hearts, they dug with all their worth.

One year later The fortress is strong,
Of all leaders, he has done no wrong.
But a cavern has been found!
Beings of moss are all around.
All is not well in this peaceful cavern,
As a forgotten beast roams, heading for the tavern!
The leader came, armed with axe,
Though he did not expect a monster made of wax!

Strange, this beast was,
This leader knew what 'twas.
Slimy snail with wings, made of wax,
Beware its dust, its name is Bax!
The brave dwarf knew what he had to do,
He sprinted away, some say he flew.
This beast followed, wanting blood,
Here was a trap, that triggered a flood!

The day was not saved, for the beast had wings,
There was about to be a battle fit for kings.
Every dwarf gathered around,
Even Armok viewed, wearing his bloody crown!
As the beast rose, spewing dust,
The noble leader rose, the dwarves placed in him their trust.
All the fortress was still,
Time for battle, where there will be a kill.

Ichor spewed on the walls,
Is there no noise in these hallowed halls?
Our fearless leader choked on the powder,
Oh, there was no noise louder.
After the fight he fell down,
All but awake, to be lost in renown?

But all is well for our new mayor,
Being just a case of the sniffles, he lives to this day as the surveyor!

*This is not a true story, just something I felt like doing.

I'm taking a break from grinding methuselah skeletons for the time being. I got to level twenty from that and now can do the Axe-user quest for axebearers where they can actually use the axes for high cost attacks. While doing this, I'm having a little trouble killing the Bog dragon of Klor swamp. It keeps grinding me to the floor.

The goblin nods, and you press the blue stone. A stone slab slides over the door you and your soldiers entered by, thus blocking the door. the other two stones push in a small amount, and are covered by a stone slab. From the wall with the blue stone, it opens like a sliding door, revealing a long hallway, at the end is a door, seemingly wooden so even if it is locked you might be able to break it down if need be.

You hear dripping... You look up and see a grate in the ceiling, water is dripping from said grate. Further in the background, it sounds like more water is running.

About the thing with selling gem bear spleens, there actually is another place to sell them that isn't listed, there's this one drunkard in the Blackroot tavern in high-guard zone that buys most misc. items, the price isn't to great compared to what I've heard the merchant buys them for, but it's a closer place to sell them. That's how i get rid of mine anyway.

I just got one shard though, I need four more, and I'm lazy enough to try other methods. Is there anything anybody is willing to trade for them?

I have good luck with getting drops from bosses and also got a 'scroll of fire ward' (rare) from the scrollsmith which gives about 33% damage protection from fire attacks, but expels any other fire defense buffs from you, luckily it takes up a slot that's hardly used so it's pretty good for fire areas. Please tell me if you're willing to trade an ancient shard or two for it, the materials are easy enough for me to get, so higher level characters can get the items more easily than me.

I also have a mage's staff of serpents which can turn into any random reptile based enemy for 3 min. on your side, with unlimited uses, I got it from grinding the Medusa's aide boss while trying to get the deep venomous fangs for the high-guard zone serpentine quest chain.

You move the stone to a new location, There is a rumble, and the door clicks. You pull open the door and a new set of torches light up. There are three large stones on the wall, one is green, one is red, and one is blue. They appear as if they can be pushed like a button. Another sign is posted in the middle of the room. This one reads:

"Two tests you have done, time for a choice for fun. Fields may be nice, but also there is ice. The sea is fine, but try the color like wine. The blood we like a lot, but you might not."

Sorry to be a bit whiny, but I've been looking around sources trying to find how to get ancient shards, I haven't found anything on the subject except some kind of ridiculous drop rate from Gem bears in the turtle hills, any other ways or is that it?

I realize the axe-bearers cannot use the axes, but they do buff other players according to the axe they are using. That's why I want this golem.

612
You nod your head, leaving the body that seeps blood there for recovering later. You head right and come out unscathed. You feel a stone shift under your feet, dropping.
A set of new torches light up.
There is a red stone on the wall, and the rest are grey in a gridlike pattern. Next to this grid is a locked door. Don't ask how you know it's locked, you just know it is. Another sign is visible. this one reads:

"2,3 and you will be free. Y is X and X is Y. If you choose wrong you will die."

This one is a bit harder, but still easy enough.

613
You confidently state "left!" as the correct direction to go. The goblin with you trusts you wholly and walks into the left path

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

614
One goblin enters the hole safely, you follow behind him. There are two paths branching off ahead of you, but you cannot see deep in them because there is no lighting. The torches are firmly bolted to the walls. There is a sign in Dwarven, luckily you can read dwarven because your father used to be a diplomat with the more civilized dwarves, wiped out now for being to elvish. Now your father is a general, that's why you command a squad in a siege.
the sign reads:
"Up is down as black is to white. Take the correct path to avoid your blight. Live is to dead as dark is to light. To take the best path, you must turn ________"

This one is pretty easy.

A bit of help, I recently started as an Elder axe-bearer (the class they just added in, if you forgot.) and I was going smoothly, When killing the scrollsmith boss I got a 'scroll of elder golem' It's classified as a rare item, and requires ancient shards for summoning an elder golem, I have all the other materials. I was wondering how you get ancient shards, Because getting the golem is definitely worth it, since it levels up with me. I'm level 17 if that makes a difference.
