DF Bug Reports / Totems are not in the crafts in trade depot...
« on: September 05, 2008, 08:06:00 am »
At some time they were, but no they aren't anymore which is kinda annoying after several +20 goblin ambushes. I started wondering why my stockpile seemed so full all the time and noticed that my dwarves haul narrow clothes into my bins but not the totems (well, a couple, but not the 80 I need to sell to make some room). And since they are not shown in the craft section, I usually forget them until I have bought out the caravan.

Okay, I could offer them to the traders as bribes gifts to their leaders, but it seems so unchallant to give them let's say 20 totems.

So, please, could the totems be added t the crafts list?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Carnivore deers
« on: September 02, 2008, 02:18:06 am »
So, some deers got stuck in my cagetraps and I decided to tame them. To my suprise all 4 deers were tamed by giving them fish (black bullhead trout, if I remember right). One was tamed by my ranger and three by my DM. So it wasn't a fault in for example my DM's view of world.

I was wondering, should there be a [HERBIVORE] -tag attached to creatures that won't eat meat (like elves...)?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / My dwarves have a sense of irony...
« on: August 11, 2008, 06:57:28 am »
After an extensive goblin siege (20 casualties on my side :'(), miasma and stuff all my 6 jail cages were in use and more criminals needed some penal housing. I ordered 10 more metal cages to be made and about a day after that my metalcrafter takes on an aspect of a fey and claims my only forge. Great. After nearly a month of furious work she produces this:

Erläth Eren, "Thinshoved the Band of Liberty", a billon chain.

Those goblins that will come next year and slaughter every one (unless I'm lucky) will probably understand and put that legendary chain into good use when they find it...

DF Suggestions / Shark pup numbers...
« on: July 10, 2008, 08:49:12 am »
While updating DF wiki-site, I noticed that sharks produce less pups than in real world. For example Blacktip reef shark really has 2 to 4 pups per year, in DF there will be only one per year. Is this because of sharks being too nasty critters for dwarves ("oh, I really love my shark skin thongs even though it cost that poor fisherdwarf his left leg...") or is there some other reason that I'm missing?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / My dwarves are eating spiders!?
« on: October 22, 2007, 08:14:00 am »
I was trapping in cave river for lobsters and cave fish to be put into my aquarium. I did get them and I also got a couple of cave spiders. Well, I didn't need the traps anymore, so I left them into the traps in animal stockpile. Suddenly, during the game I realize one of them is missing. I shrug and assume that it died or something. After few months I actually see one dwarf coming to the animal stockpile, crab the spider, go to the table and eat it. I was dumb struck. I have a lot of food so (s)he just couldn't be hunting for vermin. As far as I know, spiders don't show in kitchen as edible/cookable like lobsters do... Has anyone other had this kind of behavior in their forts...

Ps. As an afterthought, I have seen S.-American indians eating tarantulas, so it isn't so horrid after all, just weird...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Strange engravings...
« on: September 10, 2007, 07:47:00 am »
My legendary engraver is producing lots of masterful engravings of withering platinum flasks, among other things. How does metal wither? Does it imply of me not using my legendary platinum flask, what do you think? Or is this just program fitting words together without realizing their meaning?

DF Bug Reports / Goblins shot my dogs and I can't butcher the corpses
« on: February 12, 2008, 09:28:00 am »
Actually goblins shot quite many animals like a war dog, four puppies, a muskox, a couple of fowls and their mother along with metalcrafter and siege engineer. Only the war dog was a pet, but I can't butcher the corpses of those unfortunate puppies and fowls. Did the goblins use poisoned arrows or something so that my dwarves decided they were not edible or is this unintentional? Or do the dwarves consider the fallen animals as war heroes?

DF Suggestions / Ordering animals with specific gender...
« on: October 19, 2007, 08:34:00 am »
As the topic says, I'd like to order male or/and female animals from caravans. It is frustrating that if your entire (fe)male gender of one species is annihilated (somehow my entire bullpack (?) was loitering near well, when hordes of lizardmen jumped out and killed every one of them (okey, all three of them). With next human caravan, I placed cows as very high priority and next year I get one lousy cow in a wooden cage! After figuratively strangling the human ambassador and my computer screen, I decided to ask if something could be done with the ordering part of caravans...

DF Suggestions / Assignin coffins
« on: September 19, 2007, 07:27:00 am »
I don't know if this has been suggested before (didn't find anything with search), but I'd like to assign my coffins to a person after they die. Like one of my trappers how got ripped apart (19 dwarf chunks + severed hand and leg) by wolves. Now I can't assign him a coffin because he is dead. In real world graves are usually made after you die exept with the very wealthy.

DF Suggestions / Making steel
« on: September 06, 2007, 11:03:00 am »
I noticed that when making steel and pig iron one needs limestone. It is correct that when making steel one needs some chalk. I'd want to see that in following verions, also dolomite (way over 50 % of chalk) and marble (sometimes even higher percentage of chalk than in limestone) could be used. Using marble this way is of course not very cost effective, but when there is an urgent need, one must use what ever methods necessary... Dolomite chalk is very widely used as an additive in farming and it is far more common stone than limestone. It's is not as pure, but you can manage with it.

DF Suggestions / A couple of suggestions
« on: September 03, 2007, 10:42:00 am »
While I was playing DF, I came up with a notion that critters doesn't leave horns after they die even if they have 'em. So I think horn would be a perfect material for craftdwarves as in real life it can be used to form flutes, handels for weapons, figurines, decorations etc. It also came to my mind that some aphrodiasiacs could be nice, like spanish fly. It would increase the chances for child birth. And as a Finn, I noticed that colder climate animals should include reindeer and bluefox. Bluefox could have expensive fur and reindeer could have horns (that could be used as an aphrodisiac after grounding).
