DF Bug Reports / Goblins shot my dogs and I can't butcher the corpses
« on: February 12, 2008, 09:28:00 am »
Actually goblins shot quite many animals like a war dog, four puppies, a muskox, a couple of fowls and their mother along with metalcrafter and siege engineer. Only the war dog was a pet, but I can't butcher the corpses of those unfortunate puppies and fowls. Did the goblins use poisoned arrows or something so that my dwarves decided they were not edible or is this unintentional? Or do the dwarves consider the fallen animals as war heroes?

DF Bug Reports / Re: 33g: new trade interface: totems
« on: January 16, 2008, 06:56:00 am »
I came here to make a proposition that the Toady One should make totems and mechanisms also listed in trade list. I was also cosidering that in the trade screen you could list your products by their materials, like all thing made of bone, or stone, or leather etc. and also sub-materials, like goblin bones, granite or cat leather.  It would speed the finding of specific products, like totems and platinum crafts a lot...

DF Suggestions / Ordering animals with specific gender...
« on: October 19, 2007, 08:34:00 am »
As the topic says, I'd like to order male or/and female animals from caravans. It is frustrating that if your entire (fe)male gender of one species is annihilated (somehow my entire bullpack (?) was loitering near well, when hordes of lizardmen jumped out and killed every one of them (okey, all three of them). With next human caravan, I placed cows as very high priority and next year I get one lousy cow in a wooden cage! After figuratively strangling the human ambassador and my computer screen, I decided to ask if something could be done with the ordering part of caravans...

DF Suggestions / Re: War and Slavery
« on: October 26, 2007, 05:39:00 am »
I think slavery should be incorporated into the game even though I personally am against slavery. I also am against killing people and stuff and I still play games that are about it. There have been some very good points for it and the two comments against it were based on a personal morals, nothing else.

I want it on because it should be possible. Slavery exists even today even in these so called civilised countries we live in and in USA it was officially cancelled only after civil war. But a kind of slavery is practised in many civilised countries even today; it is called forced labor. For exampple USA (and China and other asian countries, Russia, Turkey, Spain etc.) uses forced labor to some extent and they even pay for the prisoners (okey, like 50 cents per day), but in my point of view it still is slavery.

This is also a thing I want to include to slavery if it ever is implemented to DF. Just imagine forcing your nearly legendary craftsdwarf to work menial tasks for a year after tanuntruming after somebody fired his masterfull bonebolt... A way better punishment than the 3 hammerstrikes.

DF Suggestions / Re: Substituting glass for obsidian?
« on: October 08, 2007, 07:55:00 am »
Obisidian is a form of glass. It was favoured over normal glass, because it was discovered before mankind knew how to make glass and because it is a lot harder than normal quartz glass (green or clear). Cyrstal glass comes near to it, but because of tempering, it doesn't form as sharp edges. I would also like to see flint weapons, like flint arrows, that aztecs used against spaniards and were more widely used during stone and bronze age. To the horror of the conquistadors, they went easily through two overlayed chainmails.

Oh, if we include fortress guard working as fire fighters, shouldn't we have also a new noble: Fire chief. He will come after miners reach magma river and he'll work like sheriff without punishing people and occasionally ordering fire buckets or something to be build...

DF Suggestions / Re: permanent farm
« on: September 28, 2007, 05:37:00 am »
What do you mean it's a micromanagement hell? I don't have any problems with it. My kitchen is repeatedly making lavish meals and my carpenters and smiths are churning out barrels for booze (I just love those golden beer barrels   :)). The only current problem is that my dwarves are consuming booze faster than I can make it, but I have already ordered them to build more stills. If you have enough barrels, you can put your stills to repeat stilling and you don't have to worry anymore...

DF Suggestions / Re: Making sand
« on: November 16, 2007, 09:02:00 am »
Do you even have and idea how hard that is? I'm a geologist (well, okey, a planetologist) and I've been doing my share of sieving and it cannot be done with cloth, because the fibers in fabric tend to move apart which kinda ruins the sieve. If the sandy loam etc. is till (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Till) then it is possible to do that, but is going to be a pain in the ass. Tropical sands are often, though not always derived from corals and thus are made of calc (usable for steel). Also in areas with volcanoes many sands are actually volcanic glass, tuff, rock ash which cannot be used to make glass.

On the other hand also some clays can be heated into glass (porcelain), but the quality of the glass is usually too poor (not transparent) for other than decorative (statues, idols etc.) or containers (plates, mugs, jugs etc.).

You can make goblins (or any other race/animal) butcherable by editting the raws. They are in data section.

The idea is nice, but as DF wants to be as "realistic" as possible, this is kinda against it. You know, genetics, different species, evolution, and stuff...

Well, if it is so confusing, just change them. Press esc and then go the key bindings and a couple of pages down are the keys for moving up and down. Now you move the cursor to the move up line, press k and then the new key you want it to be and repeat the process for the next key...

That type of immigrant -idea from Aquillion got my creative juices flow. Like prisoners having a higher chance to become violent and so on...

DF Suggestions / Re: Subterannean temperatures
« on: September 20, 2007, 08:10:00 am »
Well, they do not rise that quickly. The rate, if I remember right, is about 1 degrees Fahrenheit (1 F equals roughly to 0,56 C) per 60 feets. If one "block" of area is about 3X3 feets, then going to the cave river (48 - 105 blocks away from the cliff face) is just 144 - 315 feets (50 to 100 meters) underground, so temperature would rise about 2,4 - 5,25 F (a little over 1 C to 3 C). Chasm (148 - 200) about 50 to 100 meters more and lava river (really hot here) should probably affect more to the temperature than the deepness of the cave. You should check the following link for a full report about cave weather:

DF Suggestions / Re: Assignin coffins
« on: September 21, 2007, 05:11:00 am »
A second thought. When that trapper of mine who got mutilated by the wolves in a very remote location wasn't hauled fast enough to the graveyard he rotted and left behind bones and skull. The bones lost their owners name and I think that now dwarves don't know that these were the bones of the trapper and they wont put them in the commoners coffin along with his very rotten hand that was hauled earlier to it. I'd like to see that the bones of the decieced would also bear their owners name. It would also be cool to have *Ernib Ålsbosovil bone bolts [25]*...
