DF Suggestions / Re: Assignin coffins
« on: September 20, 2007, 07:15:00 am »
... So the other dwarves were thinking that the traitor did so shameful deed that his body (spirit?) should be treated as carbage, but his equipment would be sufficient to remind others what happened. Or maybe they just feared that his angry soul would haunt the burial chambers and annoy other souls resting there.

DF Suggestions / Assignin coffins
« on: September 19, 2007, 07:27:00 am »
I don't know if this has been suggested before (didn't find anything with search), but I'd like to assign my coffins to a person after they die. Like one of my trappers how got ripped apart (19 dwarf chunks + severed hand and leg) by wolves. Now I can't assign him a coffin because he is dead. In real world graves are usually made after you die exept with the very wealthy.

DF Suggestions / Re: Hauling Increase?
« on: September 14, 2007, 04:43:00 am »
What do you mean they would be hard to program (Not that I know anything about programming...)? We have wagons already. I think it would be simple to downgrade wagons to lets say wheelbarrows. One or two woods to create and they would hold like as much as one stone (what ever one chunk of rock weights in this game, 300?). Also, hauling could be a little faster with it than just carrying the block on your shoulder...

Gee, thanks   :) A bit more than I was expecting. So polecats/ferrets should be included in colder regions, in my opinion...

As far as I know, aren't ferrets domesticated version of polecat (or fitch, not sure of the name)? And here in Europe, they are wild...

DF Suggestions / Re: Catapult Ammo

Actually, some of the rock Romans used in their catapults during the sieges are present even today, even with hit marks. They used a lot of marble (!?), because it was easy to carve into a precise ball and used different sized balls for different ranges. Biggest of them being a little over size of a human head.

Why bother doing vinegar in alchemist lab. Leave a barrel of vine open for a month and there you go! Well, this might be a problem when dwarves are present... So, jailing some vine barrles?

DF Suggestions / Making steel
« on: September 06, 2007, 11:03:00 am »
I noticed that when making steel and pig iron one needs limestone. It is correct that when making steel one needs some chalk. I'd want to see that in following verions, also dolomite (way over 50 % of chalk) and marble (sometimes even higher percentage of chalk than in limestone) could be used. Using marble this way is of course not very cost effective, but when there is an urgent need, one must use what ever methods necessary... Dolomite chalk is very widely used as an additive in farming and it is far more common stone than limestone. It's is not as pure, but you can manage with it.

Ok, For the skin part, i'd have to say that it would be easier if an elephant (or any other big animal) carcass would just give more skins, like 4 (or 10 for elephant), It would make hunting big game a bit more profitable and make slaughtering kittens less favorable. In a resent game I slaughtered ten kittens just so I could provide fastly more clothing for my dwarves.

Fur trimming is an awesome idea! Fur could also be used as jewelry and decoration for weapons. It would also be great to have bear furs as carpets or hung from the wall...

DF Suggestions / A couple of suggestions
« on: September 03, 2007, 10:42:00 am »
While I was playing DF, I came up with a notion that critters doesn't leave horns after they die even if they have 'em. So I think horn would be a perfect material for craftdwarves as in real life it can be used to form flutes, handels for weapons, figurines, decorations etc. It also came to my mind that some aphrodiasiacs could be nice, like spanish fly. It would increase the chances for child birth. And as a Finn, I noticed that colder climate animals should include reindeer and bluefox. Bluefox could have expensive fur and reindeer could have horns (that could be used as an aphrodisiac after grounding).

DF Suggestions / Re: Let us trade for limestone please

You can use different stones in smelter, like chalk. In most of my maps, there are at least two different kinds of chalk bearing stones... Of course, it would be nice to be able to trade for those stones.
