So, my first thoughts for how to organize the whole thing is there's a primary Hub, which connects either directly to various worlds, or to secondary hubs, which then connect to worlds. Not sure which is better, could do a combo. Thoughts? Maybe options for temporary or permanent links to be made in one world to connect to others?

GM's have control over their own worlds. Obviously we can't link anything already running into this due to the potential for derailment. GM's can do pretty much whatever. I'm thinking that the links between world/hub should be closed from the getgo and unactivated until someone in the world opens it on purpose or by accident. Or maybe the world just happens to already have an open gateway from times past. Again, purely up to the GM, I have no bloody idea how this will work right now sooooo thoughts?

Worlds and Physics and Magic: I'm thinking denizens of a given world follow that worlds physics even when not in that world. Magic would probably need to be acquired from their homeworld unless they were compatible with a separate world. Again, not sure how it will work. Thoughts?

Worldbuilding. GM's have control of worldbuilding for their respective worlds. Player characters likely can do some stuff also, probs best for the GM to say what's okay to add and what's not for the players. Quality matters. Preferably stable worlds, but if someone feels like doing an unstable one, go ahead, be good for a plotpoint if they try invading another for resources. Not entirely sure here. Thoughts?

Canon Quality Control: For things that affect multiple worlds or a Hub, all affected GM's and maybe players should talk about it. With other people adding input if needed, if you want to do a major plotpoint that will affect another world, talk to the GM of that world first. If you're a player and you want to overthrow a monarch in the world you're on, talk to your GM first so he/she know's what's going on and can set up the plotline for that. Think this is decent, buuut thoughts?

Other stuff: I'm sure I'm missing stuff. I expect this list to be bloody massive when we actually start. Thoughts?

Also, name is open for changing, this one just sounded poetic when I made the thread.

General Discussion / Decisions and Choices Thread.
« on: November 22, 2014, 05:12:40 am »
Sorta wondering why there isn't a thread for this kind of stuff.

Basically. This thread is for getting an outside viewpoint on minor/mediumish choices or decisions.

Like when you have a mental debate with yourself on doing something or making a decision.

If the choice is major, it probably belongs in Life Advice. But your call.

Rules:

Constructive feedback/suggestions only. Offering alternate viewpoints is fine, making stupid jokes about stuff important to people is not.

Don't start fights, give your opinion and possibly something to back it up, don't argue for the sake of arguing. Keep it friendly.

Don't talk down to people. If someone is considering something you would never do, don't be mean, just state your opinion if you feel strongly about it. Don't fight though.

Know when to disengage. Sonething personally I think a number of forumites and former forumites due to bans could have known. Self Restraint is a very useful thing to have. This thread may give a little practice.

Additional rules may be added as needed.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / The Unraveling. (Let it begin~)

Spoiler: A note from Kevak~ (click to show/hide)

This is a story, a story of old times lost and new times begun. A story of Titans and Gods. Dragons and Men. Mortal and Undying. Empires rising and Dynasties burning in the sands of time.

Of Magic and Mystery. Of Blade and Bone. Of Ancient Powers long lost yet found again.

This is a story of a little wolf. Lost amid the chaos of the times.

This is the story of a Vampire. Who's only desire was to live again, given new purpose as his world crumbles around him.

This is a story of a Knight. Cursed to live a lifeless life for all eternity.

A story of a Maiden who hides much from her fellows and more from herself,

A story of a Mage and a Mare, and a lesson he will never forget.

A story of a long dead Lich. His Life spent seeking immortality, friends and family and love ignored in his chase, his Death a miserable Unlife devoid of what he really wanted.

This is a story of a Chieftain and his Daughter. The Chieftain doing his best to protect the last of his family and tribe, closing off to outsiders in fear, refusing aid and help when what they need most is just that.

This is the story of the End Times.

This ancient world has endured many hardships on behalf of its people.

And it slowly. Oh so very slowly.

Beginning to Die.

This is the story of the Unravelling.

And what a story it will be.

Who shall we look at first?

The Wolf? The Vampire? Maybe the Maiden or the Knight? Perhaps the  Mage and his Mare? Or the Chieftain and his Daughter? Or mayhaps we should listen to the Lich?

You decide~

Spoiler: GM Note: (click to show/hide)

A fireball streaks across the night sky. A seemingly endless expanse of white gleams in the moonlight.

The fireball suddenly curves downwards, smashing into the white expanse. A plume of ice shards and steam. A shockwave reverberates across the expanse.

Our flight pod is aflame. Our entire being screams in pain. Must escape the voices cry. The longer we stay here, the more we lose ourselves. Knowledge burning away. Quickly with haste we must leave.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Drifting through the void, quiet and serene. You rarely think, your slumber undisturbed. You know not how long you have been here. Floating without thought. Quiet and calm, peaceful and thoughtless.

Something tugs on your mind. A light tug but a tug all the same. You haven't felt anything for aeons, you're curious and slightly worried.

The tug gets stronger, the void takes on colors. Red. Purple. Green. Flashing lights and colors. The tug becomes a yank. You cannot get free. Purple lightning emanates from a hole in the void. You know your slumber has ended.

Closer and closer you are pulled. Faster and faster the void spins around you. The lightning intensifies, building in power. You slip over the edge. Falling down the hole.

Your mind is on fire. You have no vessel but your soul.

Suddenly a lurching sensation and all thoughts cease.

~

You can't remember what just happened. You're sure it was important.

You open your eyes. All is black. The air is stuffy and slightly musty. You are laying down on something hard and not particularly comfortable, you feel a weight on your chest. You are extremely hungry and thirsty, you don't think you have eaten or had a drink for a while.

You aren't quite sure what to do right now.

((So onwards to the prologue, this is so that we can get used to the system, which I still don't have entirely worked out. HersheyJordo will be the other player, welcome to the forums Hersho.))
((We will be working out the system as we go to some extent. Sooo expect a bit of confuzzlement early on.))

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Prelude To War~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The caravan shakes and bumps. The smell of pine is in the air. The sun shines gently down upon the convoy. The crisp spring air, slightly cold from last season's chills is slowly warming. The birds are chirping. The grass is peaking up from under the melting snow.  A great day for a vacation to the outer dominance of Torthak. The Prince suns himself on the roof of the cart. Twitching his tail occasionally.
His personal bodyguard watches from below.
This is a reboot of the Roll To Space Pirate game. The last GM decided it got a bit too much to handle and decided he couldn't maintain it. (Honestly I think it was the players fault, we made it more complex then needed. I think I did a lot of contribution to that, sorreh Blazing Glory.)
Anyways, the reboot can use characters from the old game, however it will require more detail then the last game did, this will likely be more roleplay intensive. Feel free to go back and edit your characters to finetune them as you develop them, that's what I was doing with Juno in the last game cause he changed from my original intent into something else. So feel free to do that.
We will be using a d12 system, rolling a 6 is a perfect success, anything more is an overshoot of various grades and anything lower is a undershoot of various grades, getting a 12 is a Gone Horribly Right or a Critical Success, which is never good ever. Getting a 1 is a Critical Failure, or a Gone Horribly Wrong, you don't want this ever either. 3-9 will result in positive outcomes, they will get less and less beneficial as they get further away from 6's, anything past will be negative. Not all negative things are instantly perceptible without a success with a skillcheck or perception check, but they can and will cause major problems.
Items and gear will give various bonuses or minuses, the bonuses and minuses will always try to balance to be as close to 6 as possible unless the character intended to fail, in which case they will balance towards 1 or 12 depending on which is closer.
For making a character sheet. Don't make them OP, however you can make them rather strong compared to the average mook.
Here is a slightly modified Juno stat sheet as an example:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Joke bonuses are completely fine, such as his +10 Fluffyness trait, they won't do much, but why not have them?. I'll keep track of special stats such as fatigue, hunger, thirst, and similar things, as well as other stuff in relation to the character's stats. There is always at least one special stat for any character. They need to take in energy somehow or they can't do anything/die.
It is absolutely fine for a character to have difficulty failing in one area or another, there are plenty of status effects they will no doubt be exposed to over their pirating career that will cause problems.
Statsheets are different then character sheets, the stat sheet will be included in at least one post per actiondump so I can reference it. All stat sheets will be updated every during an action dump, I will do the updating, you just need to copypastespoiler yours in a post.
Roleplaying phase and action phase are merged, action dumps are basically when I gather the actions I didn't quickroll for and do them all at once. Advance actions are bolded and underlined, normal are just bolded, color or use quotation marks on spoken things, people in the previous thread get dibs on text colors. It is preferred that you color your spoken text.
Character sheets are pretty straightforward.
Here is a modified Juno sheet.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The character sheet is more a reference for behavior and appearance then anything else. Make it as details as you can, if you have secret stuff for the character/backstory, PM me it, I'll copy it down in a text file and incorporate it into the story at some point if you don't kill yourself off.
Edit: As of now, Character sheets with SCP grade Abnormalities are allowed provided they have a counterbalancing negative trait if the trait is positive. Also nothing Keter grade or OP. Drevin's immortality at the cost of long term memory past a week unless other people are around that he can pick up the memories from is allowed for example. Also All Abnormalities must be worked out with me before posting as a character sheet.
The Junosheet is an example of a good character sheet. Description and personality are the most important.
You guys will format the first stat sheets for your characters also, post with the character sheet.
Aand that is about all. I'll make another post for player characters. if anybody wants to take Juno as a pre made character, pm me, I'll explain his behavior and personality in detail. If anyone is having a hard time thinking of a race, or wants something unique, pm me, I can give you one of the races I came up with a while ago, several of them will be involved in the early game.
So this is going to be a suggestion run C:DDA game. Every ten movements (subject to revision.), I will take a screenshot and post it, as well as any menus I feel like it would be a good idea to post.
This will be entirely forum driven, unless you use the specific command of "Improvise." I will do what the players state. Combat will be turn by turn, and if I see anything interesting anywhere ingame, I will stop moving and update.
This will be story driven hopefully and if any of the players have an idea for a absolute goal that is completely unachievable ingame then let me know so I can work that into the story.
Every time you die, I will load up the same world and we will try again from there.
I will be legitimately surprised if this character lasts past the first day.
Any important decisions will be done via a poll.
Soooo character creation:
Stats (These can only be increased temporarily with drugs or permanently with CBM's or Mutations. Some items have random effects with stats but are unreliable, you may want to put lots of points into here, I recommend at least 12 for perception so you can see all the traps.):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Good Traits (These help and do various things, I usually get a lot of these.):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Bad Traits (These give more points in exchange for negative traits, some of them can be considered free points as NPC's are disabled, I usually get a lot of these.):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Professions (Choose one, it defines starting gear and in some cases it gives you skill points, if you pick Otaku then I will give you an extra two points for balancing.):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Skills (1 point for two levels, three more points for another two levels. I don't see why you would want to do that or put points in here at all since you can learn them all given enough time.):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Description (Name and Gender basically, if you want a physical appearance then throw that in also.):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Have fun, try not to die.
This will be updated whenever I have time.
If this should be in the Lets Play section then move it or let me know so I can move it. I really have no idea where it should be.
Forum Games and Roleplaying / Blackspace (Reboot soonish~!)
« on: November 07, 2013, 10:58:09 pm »
This will be the first of many forum games I will be spawning in the next several weeks in an attempt to enhance the game systems of several games I'm currently working on, this one revolves around space, specifically a vague form of arena combat because I'm working on the combat engine.
Players will be in charge of a ship, they will eventually get a fleet, currently how it will run is crews of ships will have specific instructions, they will function on their own, following the orders of the players in between rounds. The game will update once per week on thursday because I'm fairly busy right now.
At the beginning of the game, players will start with a corvette class ship, it will be armed with 6 pulse cannons (15 power 10 damage, 6 movement per turn), 2 lasers (10 power, 50 movement per turn, 5 normal damage and 10 bonus towards shields) and one missile launcher holding five ammo ( 5 power, 2 movement away from ship for first turn, second onwards engages engines for 12 movement per turn, 20 damage normal, +10 towards armor). The ship will have 10 movement per turn at 15 power. The power generator will produce 100 power per turn, life support(food, quarters, and crap) take 10 power per turn, atmospherics take 10 power per turn, pod bay takes 5 power per turn but allows crew to escape, (escape pods have 1 laser and have 5 movement, they can fire endlessly as well as move without powering out, thats what they are designed to do, they do actually have a power generator but it is irrelevant unless destroyed because they have enough power.), the bridge takes 5 power per turn, no bridge = no movement. the ship has a shield array that holds 60 power, the ship has an overcharge battery that holds 200 power, power immediately gets routed into the shield and then the overcharge before anything else happens. If the shield is hit, overcharge acts as a backup shield until it runs out. Ships can drain power from the overcharge, or even the shields for powering other stuff if other things are draining it.
Corvettes have 40 armor and 30 hull, the hit system is 1 shields 2 armor 3 hull.
Various subsystems can be harmed due to hits to the armor or hull, vital systems, among others can only be harmed by hull shots, weapons can normally be destroyed via lucky armor shots.
Each week the player fleets will duel in a decent sized arena, all will get credits for participating, those that destroy ships get bonuses, those that are the last three surviving ships get extra bonuses, in proportion of placement.
Credits will be useable to buy new ships, as well as alter ship systems and replace equipment for specialization, when these become available they will be explained
The battles will take place on a map that will be posted each round, the map will differ randomly each round, some things on the map will be harvestable with specialized equipment, debris will be harvestable with specialized equipment, these will be purchasable once someone has enough money.
If ships are ordered to hide and there is no combat for a period of time, pirates will spawn to complete the round, they will despawn the next round, bonuses will still be handed out for the last survivors.
Later rounds will all have a compliment of pirates, at that point players will be able to handle it because they will have fleets or extremely advanced ships.
If you lose a ship you get a replacement next round, once you buy something you have it forever, even if it is destroyed, the exceptions to this rule are expendable ammo or equipment, you will need to purchase replacements if lost or destroyed.
Corvettes start with two crew, feel free to name them, they will be cloned if they die.
Ships have an actual organization of hardpoints and subsystems, if you are hit in a certain direction, damage will be delt to hardpoints accordingly.
Future posts will have a spoilered series of pictures depicting the combat, more if the round is long, less if it is shorter, your orders determine it.
Standard fleet orders if you choose not to give specific orders are:
Search for enemy ships.
Approach to a 6 movement range
When in range attack enemy ships with everything available until power depleted
Atmos, Podbay, Bridge, and LS take power precedence, weapons and shields come after.
As you can see this is a mildly suicidal set of orders, I recommend changing them, the pirates will use this because they are trying to kill players and this will accomplish that at the cost of their ships. Orders can be as vague or specific as you want, they may not be interpreted by me right if they are really vague, however having them be too specific prevents ships from being flexible when the situation requires it.
Feel free to sign up, there is no player limit, the more the merrier, lets me work out more game system problems quicker.
Signup sheet:
Commander name (name you want to have your Admiral referred to ingame)
Fleet name
Corvette ship name
Crew 1 name
Crew 2 name
Orders to fleet
Orders to individual ships
Future posts will be much shorter, alterations to the game will be explained, if there are questions they will be answered, have fun.
