I'm pretty sure you can use NEI to search for the blocks you want, even in creative mode.  I agree that, since Technic adds so many blocks, it can be annoying to page through them, but again, NEI has a search function.  As far as tools go, IC has similar ones.

Not that I've been on the Planehacked server yet, but my two cents about Tekkit is to disable EE (Equivalent Exchange) if you want it to take any time at all for people to get top-tier equipment and machines.  EE makes it really easy to get something from nothing, whereas the other mods, like IC 2, actually take some time and effort to get stuff.

It might also only apply to trees, at least for now.

I suppose it's more of an alien-planet-exploration sidescroller.  Updated the topic.

I suppose the biggest draw for me is that it reminded me of Metroid more than Terraria.  And if the game ends up crappy, well, I've wasted $10 on worse things.

Yeah I haven't seen much yet about building, but I didn't really care for that part of Terraria much, I was always more interested in exploring.  If I want a sandbox building game I just play Minecraft.

Hopefully I'll have good things to say after I try the beta they're releasing on the 10th.

Stumbled upon this on Steam Greenlight.  Already put my money for it on the game's Indiegogo page, anyone else see potential in this?  I really like how atmospheric the game is.

the slugs and snails are bastards. nothing seems to stop them.

Ever try the 'cup of beer' trick for slugs?  I've never tried it myself, but I had slug problems the time I grew pumpkins.  I'm curious if anyone's actually had it work for them.

Our chem teacher trolled us this week...

I think it's a chem teacher thing.  My organic chem teacher in college talked about relevant stuff for 10 minutes (if we were lucky) and then spent the rest of the lecture on some tangent about fishing.  The tests consisted of the material that he should have been covering while he was talking about said fishing.

Having fiber doesn't mean crap when your ISP rate limits it like DSL.  I have fiber simply because it's cheaper than running copper in new developments.  I'm lucky they're giving me 20/2.

Why are you stripping anything off?  Just save that link as a file and import it as-is.  I just tried it with puttygen and it worked just fine.

Once you import it to puttygen save it, and it'll be in a format putty can use.

HAHAHA INSIDE JOKE THAT I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND

Sorry, updated with reference.  Thanks Flying Dice.

There's a scene where the main characters fly into an alien mothership and disable it by uploading a virus from a normal everyday laptop.

It doesn't matter if there's tens of thousands of alien badasses on the ship.  Will Smith's sass will keep aliens at bay as you upload a virus that disables their ship.  You know their wifi password, right?  I think that's on the diplomacy screen somewhere...

A way to simply switch XP usage on and off would be nice.  You could call it "concentrating".  Say you have to make some coffee, but don't feel like wasting XP "improving" your coffee making skills.  You could "stop concentrating" (switch off XP usage), make your coffee, "start concentrating" again (switch it back on), and then go kill some zombies to raise your combat skills.

Or the other way around, if you really felt like being the best possible post-apocalyptic coffee maker.

ahahaha, that JUST happened to me recently, only in my case they met just over the bridge (I had a walled-off route going to the edge of my map so the caravans always showed up in the same place).  I had to deconstruct almost the entire wall past my bridge (and of course ambushers came during my efforts) before they un-stuck themselves.
