The map confuses me to no end.  If I press 'sm', I see a category for 'debris' with many entries.  But if I type 'move', there's no debris targets?  What is the map showing me?

Oh really?  I guess I'll just buy one then if it's that easy to get the money back.  I wasn't sure what we were going to be looking at for cash flow.

EDIT: Okay, I've got a metafrequency pin, wore it to put it on my shirt, and tuned it to 12.12.  I'll be listening for other bay12'ers.

You still need one.  And you can get a 2mil loan for a cargo hauler and grab wrecks easily enough, it seems.

Well, there's two types of communicators besides the receive-only one.  The regular 'communicator' is for private messages and using the alliance channels.  The metafrequency transmitter allows you to tune in to a specific channel between 1.0 and 500.0, so we could have our own Bay12 'chat channel' if we all got one and agreed on a frequency.  But again, the meta ones are 500k and the regular one is just 100k.

EDIT: I was trying to set up a link with Jene (Girlinhat that's you, I assume?).  If we set up links with each other we can transmit to each other later even if we're not in the same room.

Well, I was going to suggest we each buy a metafrequency transmitter and transmit on frequency 12.12 or something, but buying one is half of the $1M credits I started with.

It's not the OP's alliance, but sure, I'm in for Hale.

Ship commands are hard. In the simulator someone just wandered onto my ship and managed to shut down all of the power and I have no idea how that works.

EDIT: Oh hey Canisaur that was you who kept shooting at me in the simulator.

Yeah sorry Graknorke.  I put your ship on green alert by typing 'green'.  You can make the weapons work again by typing 'red' in the control room.

EDIT:  At some point we can add combat drones and try a coordinated exercise against them, might be fun.

Yes and no.  The ship takes time to do things anyway - you can only fire lasers every 3 or 4 seconds, and you can't 'queue up' fire commands.

Also, scripting is explicitly forbidden, so if they catch you you probably get banned.

Yeah.  Although, now I'm almost positive that when you focus a ship, it always locks that ship's coordinates.  So as long as you're focused on an enemy ship, it should lock them so all you have to do is fire weapons (and stay close enough to hit it).

Yeah I'm still trying to get the hang of that.  I think after you 'focus' a ship, you have to keep moving to them and locking the coords they're in.  'focus' with no args will show you where your focused ship is, then you just lock those coords and fire.

EDIT:  it seems that the coordinates of your focused ship are always locked?  Not positive on that though.

EDIT2:  More useful commands:  'scan <ship name>" shows you another ship's damage levels.  'dam' shows yours.

From what I've managed to figure out:

'sm' shows the map.  More usefully, 'focus' shows other ships that you can focus on.

If autopilot is on, which it is by default, you can type 'move' and it will give you a list of targets to move to.

'lock' locks a coordinate.  Press 'focus' to see the current coordinates of your focused ship.

'red' changed you to red alert and powers weapons and shields.  Similarly 'green' unpowers them and 'yellow' only powers shields.

'laser' fires your laser turrets on your currently locked coordinates.

EDIT: Being in the one-man fighter makes this a lot easier, since you can only do certain commands from certain stations in larger ships.  Right now I'm trying the 3-man cruiser and I can only move from the control room, and fire from the weapons room, so I have to move between them.

Is it just me or are combat drones ridiculously fast?  If I hit 'sm' once a second to check where it is it can move over 5 units in that time.  I'm confused.

And the problem with the focus command is that combat drones don't show up.  How do you target them?

EDIT:  I guess it's a bug?  The remove menu of the starship simulator doesn't show any drones, and the drone seems to be in a random location every time I look at the starmap, no matter how fast I spam the 'sm' command.

EDIT2:  All you silly people on the pink team.  Test Ship 2 is the amazeballest ship ever.

EDIT3:  So I added 15 combat drones.  Then couldn't figure out how to remove them since they weren't in the 'remove' menu, so I reset everything.  Sorry.

I'm still trying to get the hang of combat in the simulator.

You lock onto coordinates, not objects.  By the time I move next to an object and 'lock' its coordinates, the object (a combat drone in this case) has already moved far away.  How am I supposed to keep up with the object while having the time to lock its coordinates and then fire on it?

Also, the spacemap legend doesn't list combat drones, and there are some symbols on the spacemap that aren't in the legend??

I used to play a MUD all the time when I was wee lad in the 90's.  I'm currently playing around in the starship simulator.

My in-game name is Leoris Thorne.  I have no idea how to make my starship move yet.  I just managed to get the starmap to show and I'm figuring out how to read it.

I'm intrigued, so far.  I literally lol'd when I saw that it has a RAGEQUIT command.

So, really it's just a solid version of a winch cable?  Since you can transfer fuel between two vehicles "docked" via winch -> connector port.

Ohh, so the pipe attachment points themselves create the pipes?  I'll have to mess around with them.  Thanks.
