DF Gameplay Questions / No Caravans and No Migrants? What Gives?

I'm playing a fortress and this oddity happened, and since no one has any idea on the stories fourm (since i decided to record this ridiculousness), I decided to ask you guys. The oddity is: No caravans at all. No human, elven, or DWARVEN caravans. And I'm also not getting any migrants. I installed fortress defense mod, so its not exactly vanilla DF, but still; NO MIGRANTS OR CARAVANS!?!? Come on! This is like hardcore DF!

10th of Timber, 127: The Situation
My name is Highmax. I am a swordsdwarf of Dragonlord the Bloody Age of Artifice. We're an outpost of 18 dwarves in the freezing temperatures. We've left the mountainhomes with joy of creating a new outpost in glory of the dwarves. "The Parched Earth", the name of the mountainhomes, told us they would help us the best they can. We got ourselves settled until we realized that the water turned to ice within months of it thawing (from late spring to early autumn). We got a well but our food and booze supplies dropped as we couldn't irrigate our crops. We waited for relief and trade goods from our home....

Except they never showed up.

We waited until a year had passed and nothing came. We irrigated our crops to an extent, but the room was so flooded, we couldn't farm until it was drained. We only recently got our farms up and running, but in the meantime, we've beenliving off of vermin and animals that were only newborn. We're still low on supplies for food and our brethren have deserted us, and I fear that the stories of monsters and creatures that roam the area are waiting to feast on us. The expedition leader and the lunatic that talked us all into this, thinks we can live despite our situation. I called him a fool and left him be. Snow was falling and the cold biting hands of winter are clawing at us, hoping for us to die so it can feast. But we're a hardy people, and I tend to prove that we will endure this hard time in this dark chapter of dwarven history. Why did the mountainhomes abandon us? What dangers await us in the future? And why does misfortune favor us so? I pray that Armok have mercy on us...

DF Suggestions / Embassies/In Fortress Diplomacy

I absolutley love DF, and the only thing I can think of to make it better is to have elves/dwarves/humans from other fortresses and hamlets arrive like a liason, and, though they wont work, they will kind of do things like the outpost liason, but not limited to what the liason can do. Like you can request aid during a siege, or send words of insult to the elves. It would also require a messenger job, but it would be excellent to not be so confined to your fortress and a single mountainhome/elven retreat/human hamlet, and have multiple. But it would be odd if they did trade caravans from different places. Perhaps you can choose which embassy sends caravans at what year? Just a suggestion :P

I've been wanting to make a danger room, and I got almost everything I need. My question is:

How many wooden training spears are required per trap to maximize training? Is simply 1 fine or does more help?

So I got this really stupid idea (and in DF, nothing is truly a stupid idea unless its already been done, so its "dwarfy" for now) and I came up with a really fun and hilarious way to start a succession fort:

What gave me the idea for this? I'll explain:

Imagine what it is like to have no real communication between dwarves? They're always working (if your fortress is running properly), eating or drinking, and you can't have a conversation with a mug of ale going down your throat or a mouth full of plump helmet. And many people who role play succession forts always say they talked with the other overseer before passing it on to them. But in DF, is this the case?

So I decided to start what I would like to call: Ignorant Fortress. The succession fort that you have no idea what is going to happen when you take it over.

Current madme- I mean, players:

green means turn finished
teal means currently their turn
yellow means awaiting the save file or awaiting a response from them
orange means awaiting their turn
red means turn skipped
purple means I have no idea what to call that...

DF Gameplay Questions / Traders cannot access depot? Wagons don't come?

I got this trade depot and It worked fine for the entire time until recently, and the only changes I did was I added 3 weapon traps. Does this change their route? Should I dismantle the traps?

I just created a new world and I kid you not, first thing from the top was a ZOMBIE HYDRA. I know one of my saves are modded, but It wouldn't do it to all as far as I know. I'm gonna go try and fight this thing, despite the fact I'm gonna die

My name is Highmax... Before you say anything, yes I am a haxxor... But I'm not like your standard kill everything in sight and burn everything. No... I am a haxxor that seeks fame and fourtune. I am leaving my home village today to seek out an abandoned fourmite fortress called Necrothreat II. I am a master at dodging weapons and a good swordsman. My ability to make me become nearly invisible at will makes me a powerful and formidable foe. Stories will be told to fourmite children of how a single Haxxor broke into their beloved fortress and stole everything that wasn't nailed down. So what if it didn't last long? And so what if there is a powerful Threadromancer sealed in their basement? I'll gather my things and leave when I can... I'm tired of this peasanty life...

I just started to dig in this place, and I'm already floored by the amount of iron that I found at the 3rd z level down, and then I dug to about the 75th z level (marked at bottom right cornrer) and I found candy... My question: if there is the blue stuff this shallow down, IS THE CIRCUS TENT NOT FAR!?!?!?!? :-\

DF Modding / Creating Armor from Bones, etc in Adventuerer mode?

Is there a way to mod into the adventurer mode a way to make leather or bone stuff? It'd be nice so I can make a backpack :-\

In the lands far south, there was a dwarven settlement. In this settlement, there was talk of the forests in the north, where the trees blotted out the sun, and plunged the lands into eternal darkness. The animals there were grotesque from the darkness enslaving them, and in the heart of it was a fortress of goblins, the dark race. In there, unspeakable horrors were done.

It was in this settlement where one dwarf came to the settlement, bruised, beaten and bleeding everywhere. His eyes were blinded by the sunlight, being barely reduced to a squint. One dwarf rushed to his aid held him as the poor old dwarf just breathed his last words: "Its all over..."

It was then when this dwarf went to the Lord of the Settlement and had decied to purify those lands. This dwarf didn't want to see this happen to others trapped in that fortress in the north. This dwarf, Highmax, didnt realise it, but he had begun the first Paladin Order in their history. Highmax grabbed six of the bravest dwarves and marched towards the place where death seems to dwell...

DF Gameplay Questions / Generating World Questions...

I got the idea for comming out with a paladin sucession fort but the biome I want to do it in won't show up. I'm trying to get an Evil Forest Biome for some !!FUN!! with zombie bears, etc. My questions are:

1) Is there a certain way to set the world gen to make an evil biome in a specific area?
2) Is there a way how to make it so that you can set a premade world in case someone has the raws for one?
3) Whats different between haunted, terrifying, etc.? (also whats the most evil of them?)
4) Is it possible to generatea world with nothing BUT aquifer places? I keep getting them with no hope even without evil biomes :o
