DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Will this predator trap work?
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:02:17 pm »
Clustering them might help speed up capture. Usually the first caught is I think the pack leader, so the rest will still follow the group alpha, even if caged. caving numerous cages around may allow them to stumble into them as the hover near the alpha's capture site.

And many a brain has two halves. There, easiliy explained.
Doesn't explain the three livers...

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Cleaning Patients with Stagnant Water!?
« on: March 26, 2012, 07:58:55 pm »
FOund out the brook is stagnant also now, and I have no soap since I have no idea how to make it...

Yeah, my fort has the same problem with stagnant brook. Also my attempts at filtering through water pumps have utterly failed. I am assuming the only way to get clean water in .06 is an aquifer?
Aquifer would get stagnant, I think it gets that way if it is exposed to mud in some way, meaning you have to MANUALLY make wells, also preventing you from disturbing the dirt and stuff underneath it...

Or Toady creates a way to clean stagnant water, boiling water in kitchens perhaps?

no  bait  is needed for cages... just having a stack of  5+ cages and for some reason animals and creatures are lured to them.  They will even stand next to them for awhile then after one jumps inside a few others usually follow... a few will remain at the cages just watching their loved ones inside.
Would this work if I clustered them? And anyone know where to send things in to update wiki info? I domesticated and slaughtered a giant grasshopper nad and holy crap, 75 pieces of meat in ONE go, two brains(wtf?), and rest was two or 3 except heart, and on wiki, it lacks the info of it

They have a brook available at a CLOSER distance but they chose to go out of the way to the pool of stagnant water surrounded by wolverines... And not only are they cleaning them, they are bringing the patients stagnant water, doesn't that kill them? Or does it not matter?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: New taming question
« on: March 25, 2012, 09:58:11 pm »
I uderstand that partially tamed animals will eventually go wild again.  But has anyone else had problems with them being trap immune afterwords?  I had one animal that went wild twice, and the second time it completely ignored all traps.

Also, anyone figure anything out about the new taming?
They can still be trained while in the cages for future reference, also since I'm training rabid wolverines, this is why I haven't let them out. I've also found out that it can turn wild even if traders have it (have fun elves!) and I've also found out that you need to make sure you can access abundances of said animal, its hard to train wolverines to full taming capibilities when you cant even catch them (then again, my baitykins was used for target practice from a recent double ambush, leading to the capture of like 6 goblins... YAY PUNCHING BAGS AND WOLVERINE CHEW TOYS!)

DF Gameplay Questions / Regarding Exotics Breeding
« on: March 25, 2012, 08:04:54 pm »
I have two wolverines, one male, one female, and I want to have a shit ton of wolverines gaurding my front lawn. In order to obtain this, I have two options: catch more wolverines and loose more "bait" or breed them. I would like to know that if two animals are "trained" or "semi wild" does this mean I will get a tame wolverine pup? Or a wild one?

might not get that giant jaguar, but that should certainly catch the mountainous bitey friends of the badger.
I wanted the wolverines anyway, I'd love to see the look on the tree fondling hippi- i mean ELVES think about them when I have like 50 of them show up and brutally murder them XD

wolverines and things like badgers sometimes go berserk and the trap would work on them, but not on ost animals.

Creating a barrier so they have to pass certain squares and trapping those works.
Guess I better get to work on my cage industry

Most wild animals, even predators, avoid tame animals when possible.  The wolverine was probably attacked by the dogs.  The giant jaguar will run away from the dogs, and from your kitten.
So how do I make an effective trap to capture more of these wolverines?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Is leather armor worth bothering with?
« on: March 25, 2012, 08:50:30 am »
Leather is hard to get without trading. Every animal, no matter how large just gives one tanned skin. So you are forced to breed tons of puppies. I wish you could just breed a few large ones, like cows or yaks and get like 20 leather per butcher
It would be more like 1 for dog, 2 for sheep, 5 for cow, and so on depending on how many dogs can fit in that animal

DF Gameplay Questions / Will this predator trap work?
« on: March 25, 2012, 08:42:09 am »
In response to new update after many spasams of joy, I managed to capture a wolverine I found fighting my dogs (then getting used as a chew toy) and i decided i want MORE, and maybe that giant jaguar I found putzing about, so I made a "predator trap" but doing the following:
C = cage trap
H = chain with kitten on it

CCC
CHC
CCC

Will this work? Will things actually go for it?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: The new training
« on: March 25, 2012, 08:39:09 am »
go into your stocks menu with (z), then open up the menu for animals, afterwards, all you have to do is designate a trainer or any trainer to that animal for training. For example, my wolverines I captured I had my "lackey" train it in case something went wrong. FFortunatley, it was trained in its cage, so I had a semi wild wolverine. Later, I managed to capture another one (I traded off the smi wild one to an elven caravan, and lo and behold, it left and became wild again :D ) and then trained it the same way making it trained, but not "tame", which adds to my question: whats the scales for taming animals? wild, semi wild, trained, tame?
