Utilities and 3rd Party Applications / Re: DFHack 0.40.19-r1
« on: December 11, 2014, 02:39:53 am »
Only reason that wasn't realtime is because I was more working on making sure things were connecting right and rendering. There's no reason why it couldn't do updates more often. The communication is pretty quick, in any case.

Regarding events, something clever could be done with them, maybe, but I think it'd be simplest just to poll for changed values of stuff.

Things like dwarf positions would change far more often than terrain data, after all.

Well I'm home from work now, so it's time to start experimenting! Great work with this Japa. Reduces a lot of the framework I was thinking I was needing to write to get the RPC connection working. :)

A request from a fellow dev and non-windows user: whatever you're creating for DFHack, if you plan to mass release it, please keep it compatible with the Mono libraries so non-windows users can use it.

Nice! What do you have turning the spear traps on/off?

Anyone know how to use the job plugin and/or workflow to produce a specific type of rock crafts, specifically amulets?

@expwnent - Could you please edit the first post to remove the line "This must be downloaded separately for technical reasons." from the stonesense line. Stonesense hasn't had its own release since 2010, and its been bundled with DFHack releases for awhile (except of course the recent non-availability due to bugs).

Elsewhere (Reddit and StackExchange) people are confused about how to get stonesense because of that line ([snide_comment]apparently some people read user docs![/snide_comment]).

My two cents: there is enough DFHack content to merit its own forum but there isn't enough 3rd party stuff that isn't DFHack to merit its own forum so it may as well all get lumped together.
Actually there's plenty, it just tends to be buried by all the dfhack stuff since dfhack development is much more active and needs constant updating. I think a separation could benefit both sides. Other third party utilities would have greater visibility and user support for DFHack (since it's lacking somewhat in documentation) would be easier.

This is my opinion as well (except the documentation bit, I think DFHack is quite well documented from a users perspective). A separate forum would enhance DFHack support while unclogging this board for the other 3rd party utils. Though TBH, I think for user support forums are atrocious at it, a very mid-200s solution, when more efficient things exist like DF on Stackexchange Gaming. But that's another topic.. ignore me.

The "there's not enough discussion about non DFHack utils" argument doesn't hold water IMHO, just look at the Wiki board which is very quiet yet still merits its own place. Separate would ensure non-DFhack topic aren't lost in the "noise".

Thanks Staalo! Nice work.

So many spear traps! I'm curious how many spears you used this time around? Last time you said you used to few in general population which necessitated the construction of an additional wing for the more advanced students. How many spears are per tile this time?

Have you tried removing the bridge across the water to force swimming?

Also, I see some mist, do you have a waterfall in place?

Weren't you running DA prior to the LNP without DFHack? And I thought you were running your own Linux build.

I was running DA prior to the R2 LNP release, but with DFHack.. precisely because I was running my own Linux build. I built DA from a vanilla DF installation by copying in DFHack and the DA raws from the Windows ASCII release.

If you changed any world gen parameters, that can cause crashing even in vanilla. If you were running with DFHack this whole time, and had issues since [R2_40_19] it might be something I've done.

I have been using DFHack this whole time (since 40.16). I will go play the first 40.19 release for awhile with DFHack and see if it crashes!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: DF2014 (v0.40.10+) Worldgen Cookbook Thread!

To do that, just batch gen with RANDOM as the history seed, leave it overnight and check the generated worlds in the morning.

Turn off DFHack. Even the old stable version had issues in world gen with Dark Ages. I recommend running without it until further notice.

:-( I'm afraid I'm completely dependant on dfhack these days. Going back to vanilla DF is a maddening exercise in tediousness that I can't imagine.

DFHack with unmodded DF is quite stable for me. I'd be happy to help troubleshoot the bugs in DA, but I'd need some guidance on what do test out as right now I've no idea what's causing the crash.

Until then I'll play vanilla and watch this thread for updates.

I'm getting crashes too about 20% of the time during worldgen.

But also I am crashing in fort mode. Whenever I exit and save, it crashes.  Plus it is also crashing randomly every 10-20 minutes.

Going back to vanilla until this is sorted out.

Here is a fort that crashes after ~30 minutes of play: https://www.dropbox.com/s/i9emz2l37i5aatv/dark-ages-world-crash.zip?dl=0

DF General Discussion / Endless Age of Myth, Bug?
« on: December 09, 2014, 06:39:16 am »
On Linux since 40.16 my worlds never leave the Age of Myth. I've genned Large, Medium, Small and pocket, with vanilla and custom world gen params. The longest gen I did was a 9999 pocket world. It's not a case of leaving and coming back (e.g., Second Age of Myth), rather the worlds never exit the Age of Myth.

Has anyone else seen this?

Congrats Sodel Cityknighted!

Staalo, could you post a screenshot tour of your school?

Cool. Since the 1.23 upgrade is already in process, this sounds like it will be the least amount of effort to support mobile. +1
