Let's nip this in the bud, guys.

The German K-groups back in the seventies had similar issues: Utterly ineffective, financed only by GDR money, and splintered to hell and back. Then came the Red Army Faction, and Communism was no longer really en vogue, so everybody just sort of switched over to the Greens, I think. They managed to hold it together much better.

I think it's mostly that having a common enemy that you want to fight makes sticking together easier, while having similar but subtly different goals means every bit of cooperation is a step away from your ideals.

Look, I'll give this whole thing a good one-over when I've done some more studying, because there's some glaring mistakes and worrisome assumptions in there, but one thing:

Is it too much to ask from a self-styled progressive to at least spell 'Tiananmen' correctly? Lots of folks were killed there, giving their lives to remove the shackles of oppression from their people. Have some respect.

Wouldn't that be comparatively easy? They know how to put up satellites, and controlled re-entry should be easy to accomplish if you know the exact position you're starting from. There's treaties against that kind of thing though, so nobody's deploying that kind of stuff.

Fakeedit: Actually, that reminds me of an old Civilization series bug where it would be possible to defeat a tank with a squad of spearmen, heh.
This one. Maybe you're getting old ;)

Bug? I always considered a realistic portrayal of the possibility of raids on, for example, the encampments or supply routes of the tank unit in question.

There's many ways of conserving food: Pickling, drying, salting, fermenting into Sauerkraut and the like, etc etc. If you're starving half the time, you're going to be very ingenious in keeping around any temporary surplus. Plus any alcohol that is produced would presumably be used as a primitive hypnotic rather than as a low-quality fuel...
Rotten stuff is no good to ferment by the way. Molds have a knack for outcompeting yeasts once they're established. Putting the stuff on the compost pile or feeding it to the pigs is a much better bet.

Wow we just got offered a house. We're moving in tonight.
Check for beautiful French women with a taste for vengeance. We wouldn't want you to get hurt.

That's a neat image, but don't farm plots require a lot of upkeep beyond harvesting? The idea should still work, but just checking for accuracy.
Depends on what you're growing, how much pesticides, fertilizer etc you're using, what climate you're in, what sort of weeds your crop is competing with... That's why orchards are probably the best choice: You have to prune them once a year, and you have to go harvest - that's it.
If they still have old agricultural machinery, they could outfit that to be zombie-resistant and keep using it, massively improving yields. Animal husbandry could likewise be adapted to a setting like this, maybe in this manner.

One probably could till a plot, then leave it unprotected - zombies don't care about agriculture - and then drive them off again when it's harvest time. Should work best with fruit trees and anything that can easily be collected without much digging or cutting. Biohazard suits (which are old, and prone to leakage) would have to be provided for the farmers venturing out to harvest.

Setting it up this way gives you a plausible reason for them not to be just completely holed up, without going into a raider-style thing.

Still a nice shibboleth though.

The original article makes much more sense when Google Translated to English than in the original. They updated it though :/

I'll be buying a smartphone soon, so maybe I'll try and popularize that term here. Certainly is funny.
