DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Goblins, a Great Evil

A spot of tea?

Only if you have enough for all of my new compatriots.

But communism is arguably not facilitative towards evil, particularly considering the logical extenuation that it would take towards inversion of social Darwinism. Unless you were to qualify evil differently, but that is not relevant towards discussion of goblinoid evil.

Who cares, it's tea. Perhaps we could hang the kettle? He was looking at this one funnily.

That is quite true. Hang the kettle, in the name of the Queen of UserError.

This Queen of UserError, is she a goblin? That would fit nicely with my predictions.

No.
We need not hang the kettle; it already contains the seed of its own revolution.

Note that I'm not talking about Catholics. Just the church itself. 90% of Catholics don't listen to the church.
That's a high estimate. It's also a matter of what kind of people become priests nowadays: Our village priest (God that sounds like I live in an RPG) is pretty much of a fundie who literally has emptied the church over the past years with his ill-thought out sermons and suspect attitude. Even my parents, who as agnostics go to church because of their own reflections and thus are hard to scare off, are considering to start going to church in the next town. (Man, again that RPG sound.)

In America the Catholic Church really only functions as a hate group at this point. I respect their work elsewhere but in first world countries they care a bit too much about politics. Pity they were on the wrong side of this fight.
I think in the US every religious group is prone to going a bit overboard; AFAIK in Europe they're fairly moderate. Conservative, sure, and contra-progressive, but in a harmless sort of way.

I'll actually be making a talk about a similar topic to hopefully get me a sweet sweet scholarship (which I will use as sweet sweet beer money :P ) - just wanted you guys to know that you're really, really helpful.

Seriously, if I get that scholarship: Everyone who posted before this post, PM me your address (or some other address, your loss) and I'll send you a bottle of the local beer.

(Second time this week that I've offered to ship beer to Bay12ers - maybe I should open a forum store :D )

Is there a plan to change the way labor assignment works in the near-or midterm future? DFHack has incorporated a Dwarf Therapist-like feature in a very in-style way, so it should not be too difficult to get it to look good.

Wow. Got someone claiming that unless there was a god, it'd be impossible for there to be an approximate 50/50 ratio of males to females in all animal species. His reasoning? Basically, 'This is how it works.'

No evidence or anything, just him basically saying that.

He also claimed that evolution doesn't exist, and it's not science, it's witchcraft!
Meh, if the witchcraft works better, I'll choose witchcraft over science any day of the week.

It doesn't, though.

I think there were great splits in the early church about whether Jesus was like God or actually God - some said he was just an extraordinary man, but were still christians. That would have helped a lot with the "no god next to me" stuff in the old testament - you'll have to admit that labeling christianity a monotheistic religion is pushing it a bit :P

No one should be homeless, least of all people who were willing to give their lives for "the American cause". Being homeless is fucking terrible.
Misko is going to go ahead and agree with this statement. It sucks, and there isn't always something you can do about it.
You could pay higher taxes and give people politicians a few more summer/winter cottages housing with that money. But that's a decision you'll have to make.

FTFY

Yes, this is exactly how social democracy works. Higher taxes are used to support lavish lifestyles for political figures and all those government services are magically provided by the Invisible Hand of the Market, out of a sense of pity for those poor socialist slaves who give up all their money for no return.
I need a word with that Invisible Hand. It seems to have missed me a few times.
"If you're quick with a knife, you'll find the invisible hand is made of delicious invisible meat." ~xkcd
