Acknowledge testing...before we get there. Like, now. Even if I said no. Do it now.
((hehehe, ok!))

"Wait, you're afraid of heights? Well, I guess I'll just find someone else to test with. I don't want to make you uncomfortable."

Erin looks around at the various revelers dancing about. Then points out one of the dancers to Kira.

"Hey, look at that guy's left hand. I think he's holding something weird in it but I can't get a good look. What do you think?

Erin waits for Kira to focus on the dancer, then grabs her from behind and proceeds to test how easy it is to fly while carrying Kira, saying "See? It's really not that bad. Doesn't the wind feel great? And look at the awesome view!"

((I learned typing from talking to my friends and foes in the middle of fast-paced online games, not from professional typing or forums or whatever. I type quite fast, and what I type is usually easy to understand, but things like capitalization aren't intuitive to me. My browser has a spellcheck built in, but it doesn't detect capitalization errors. I use punctuation as though I was actually speaking. Commas are miniscule pauses, periods slightly longer ones, ellipses or new lines for ones long enough people would consciously notice them.))

"That is a frighteningly good point."

Erin rejoins the group for a moment

"Guys, these people should have reacted to us wandering around with a dead body, and body parts are money here. Do not go anywhere alone, and watch your back. There may be people wandering the streets looking for easy kills to make money. Don't look like you're easy to kill."

Erin then wanders back over to Kira

"If you dont mind, I'll travel with you while we do our shopping. Moving around alone is asking for trouble. Also, I'd like to check something. I'm not sure how much weight I can carry while flying, would you be willing to help me find out? It could be fun. I'll stay low, so if I drop you you wont get hurt."

Travel with Kira while we do our shopping
If Kira gives me permission, test if i can carry her around while flying, and if so how it affects my flight

Erin makes a mental note to ask the woman why nobody cares about the dead body other then her family, but not now, not when asking would just cause pain.

"If you want to go down that cliff to sift through the blood-soaked remains of his probably exploded body for whatever items that gamma was carrying on his person when he fell, you can do it without me. just dont get eaten by the things down there when you do. i like the idea of splitting up, and regrouping at the chieftain's hut at noon. we can do any actual purchasing after we know what we're doing next, so lets wait on the shopping. feel free to find out how much stuff will cost though, it'll help us plan out our purchases after talking to the chieftain."

things i want to do while in the village:
price check travel food
price check a ranged weapon i can use in flight
price check flint & steel
price check actual clothing
price check backpack
price check blankets
price check rope
price check armor
check sell value of knife
check sell value of battleaxe
read my book, looking specifically for treating weapon cuts, bite wounds, and other such things, followed by generic poison treatments for when you dont know what the poison is.
price check medical supplies

meet back up outside the chieftain's hut around noon, and visit him after we've regrouped.

triggered action: if anyone starts to protest the woman charging us for food, or not paying us the value of an entire corpse (seriously, when body parts are money an entire corpse is quite valuable), interrupt them however necessary to shut them up, then take them aside and say "not now, you're right, we're getting jipped, but she isn't in her right mind right now. give her a couple days to get her head screwed back on."

((@gm, how are parts kept from rotting? if we're going to be carrying these things around then i don't want to get diseased before the day is out. if they're just uncooled non-airtight bags of raw meat then the smell will announce our presence from miles away and the rotten meat we're carrying on our person for days on end will probably leave us massively sick.

also, cannibalism encourages the growth of some REALLY nasty parasites, some of which quite literally eat your brain, amoung other things. additionally it looks like a lot of the meat around here is being eaten raw. the world that's being built around us seems to be straight-up asking for disease to run rampant.

and i liked this turn, and thank you for not making me go back there. i really see no point, it seems like a medium-risk, low-reward action. i'm pretty sure i can be more productive in the village than looting the body.))

Feyri sighed as her eyes followed Grate out the Armory, then back at May...who was still in her birthday suit, when she began hefting the pile of clothes.

...Which was then thrown to the side in a comical fashion as the momentum and swiftness of a very familiar face rushed by and spun her 'round until said figure was right behind her, clinging. The surprise was enough to catch her off guard. Granted, she was glad that she was only holding her shield up at the time and not the sword.

"W-hey! Whats the-...Oh, Lyra? What's gotten into you there? Is it the drug dealer? Protection racketeering? The threat of honey and mustard flavored painkillers?" she said teasingly. The last one was sincere though...those things were horrible, despite the flavor.

"You...worried much? Just nod if its a yes."
Look up at Feyri, make eye contact, hold eye contact for two seconds, then nod once.

continue hiding behind Feyri

9607
Run away and hide behind Feyri. if the rifle is on my way to the exit, grab it along the way and place it in her hands when i reach her. if i wont be able to get out of the room before the IDD picks the rifle back up and starts aiming, get something between me and him that i think is thick/sturdy enough to hopefully block a gauss round.

((opportunities for player input missed:
looting the encampment (they probably had food and supplies stockpiled there, it would make sense to steal what we could),
mid-battle tactics(it looked like the fight could have been broken into three rounds (bait round, first combat round, second combat round)),
brother going insane (do WE kill him for stabbing his brother? i wouldn't have given us players a chance to stop the stabbing itself, but we might want to react to it. also we never got a chance to attempt to provide medical aid to the older brother (doomed, but Erin at least WOULD try).),
brother's suicide attempt (do we stop him? it's not all that easy to kill yourself instantly, and with that little speech of his we should have been able to see what was coming before he stabbed himself).

trouble visualizing:
little to no input as to the terrain we're in. what is it made of? what does it look like? what are the ambient noises, crickets, the wind, and suchlike. what are  the cliff edges made of? how sheer are they? is it realistically possible to grab something if you fall off? are there plants growing in the area? how healthy are they? what about the encampment? what materials is it made of? how big is it? is there a cooking fire or remenants of one? how many structures are in it? do the structures have windows? other than the buildings and cliffs, how flat is the terrain? is it perfectly level, or rolling hills, or steep slopes up and down? is the ground beneath us grassy, dirt, gravel, sand, concrete, large rocks, fallen trees, mud, or some other surface? how much water is around? are there streams, ponds, or other such terrain visible from where we are? what about at the cliff bottoms? is it greener or more barren down there? are there any visible remains of 21st century society around? broken cars, soda cans, or other such things littering the area? how hot/cold is it? how humid is it? are there distinctive smells around? like the smell of animal poo or of the sea.

little to no input as to the relative positions of people. where was i between me darting to the right and diving the gamma? what was nectarius doing? how far did the fight occur from the cliff edges? how far were the cliff edges from the shack? why on earth would someone chase me off a cliff when i can fly?

minimal descriptions of the mutants involved, although the brothers were described well, and so was the gamma, there is little to describe what the three escorting the gamma were like, nor the prisoners. in fact, we still dont know how many prisoners were being held there.

a gm almost NEVER answers all these questions, the lists i gave you just now are excessive, and trying to answer all of them would just plain take forever. but the more you answer, the better the visual your players can draw from your descriptions

oh, and i'm hanging on to the keys to our cells, although they arn't listed in my inventory. i want to keep them for later.

now then, having posted that giant wall of suggestions, you're doing just fine, dont be too hard on yourself. the only reason you're getting so much feedback is because you're asking for advice. you're doing better than many at this.))

"Dont maim the corpse, the village isn't far and they might want confirmation of these brothers fates, they also might have specific burial rites for them. we can ask the villagers for food, shelter, and information. someone help carry him, he's kinda heavy"

take the parts pouch from Yern's body and one of the axes, before carrying the body to the village

((Tiriun, look at our stat sheets on the first page, you're the slowest of the group, i'm the fastest. Nectarius is tied with Hroki for second fastest.))

"I propose we send out a couple runners. the runners split up and try to make our enemies split up to chase the them. after they're split up, our main group needs to take them out, targeting their singletons first if possible. i'll volunteer to be one of the runners, i really don't want to be trapped in here without access to the sky."

Erin hands her knife to Hroki

"You look really strong, Clair and Zerol have special abilities we need in the fight, Kira is our combat expert, and these two brothers looks like strong fighters as well. by elimination the best choices for our runners are me and Nectarius. we both see well in the dark, we're both fast, and I have wings in case I get in real trouble. i'll hang on to the keys for now, that way if things go sour they wont be able to use those cages to hold us again, and if they try i'll just come back and get you out of there.

Nectarius, from the doorway, facing the enemy, i'll be run to the right. you run to the left. if they refuse to chase us then circle around them and run towards the bridge. that should force their hand.

Eight versus four may be a huge advantage, but six versus two, or better yet versus one, is an even bigger advantage. even six versus three is no worse than eight versus four, and we'll be able to make sure all our fighters are armed. if they refuse to chase us, no matter what we do, then we'll just run in from the sides and flank them when the fighting starts."

EDIT: ((mixed up who had the bat. the bat is Hroki's, not nectarius's. which slightly weakens the plan, but oh well))

((I've updated things in the first page about combat. You might want to check it out. I'll be using the DnD dice roller online. By the way, are the rules too complicated?))

Please roll to see if you manage to memorize them in time. (1d3, +Int vs 3)

If you want, you can do a Search roll to look for traps. (1d6, +Int vs 4)

((Am I doing it wrong? I haven't seen many GMs do this, except in DnD.))
((in time? what's the time pressure from? I didn't know they were moving. are they moving on, away from the bridge? or are they staying still at the chokepoint, searching for threats? i've been assuming the second option.

btw, kira has the axe, it doesn't show in people's inventories))

((Thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to use it next time!  ;D By the way, for combat, should I hide the dice rolls or something? Because it would look nicer if I hid it. ))
((a common choice is to have all the die rolls shown in one big block at the start of the post, then the story of how the fight went told afterwards in it's own block. that way the story isn't interrupted by all the numbers, but people can still see how they rolled and why the fight went how it did.))

"A two-pronged attack is only usefull if it gives us some kind of advantage in position or bring extra numbers to bear. if we want to flank them it's easy to just advance together and split right/left since we outnumber them. splitting up makes it hard to cordinate, and we risk having to fight divided up. we'd be better off splitting them up with a decoy or two then having our main group jump them one or two at a time as needed. i can keep away from them easy but i'm not sure they would be willing to chase me. it's just too obvious that i could fly away anytime, me baiting them would be a lot like screaming that we have a trap waiting for them. but i'm willing to try, and there is a similar risk for any other bait being figured out anyway. or heck, if they refuse to chase me, we could herd them by having me bait them to where we want them to NOT go.

I'd still love to hear any other ideas though. i'm not sure how to make this work."

Erin examines the map, looking for good locations to set traps, potental deadends, and otherwise tries to memorize the nearby area for later.

((well darn, there goes the bridge drop plan. still, no ranged weapons and no helmets? that leaves me with an interesting option or two. namely plan "drop rocks on their heads until they either run or die" and plan "be bait and make them chase me all over the place."

btw, for the future, not now, it would have been nice to be given the option to try to negotiate with the prisoners. they would have been safer escaping with us in one big group, which WAS the original plan, and i was trying to make freeing them conditional on them agreeing to work with us. also to be given a chance to warn the prisoners of Vorl, or help them fight, rather than automatically allowing them to die. automated judgement calls like those are kind of frustrating because they're often out of character for at least one member of the group.))

"Well, that looks like a problem. i can simply fly past them if i have too, but I don't want to abandon you people. does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this? a frontal assault seems like a stupid idea."

9613
Jobasio was shocked and speechless. Well, for a brief moment, anyway.

"Gaah! What are you doing?! You leave my Whig alone, you brute!"

>Knock Whig's attacker to the floor with an elbow strike, then grab up the poor, defenseless gauss rifle and flee the infirmary.
dodge the attack and react as planned, 1 good solid blow to the groin. run and hide behind Feyri after the IDD has been incapacitated. if he drops the weapon, take it when i run and hand it to Feyri.

((well this isn't exactly going as planned.))

@GM: what weapons/armor do they have, and how bloodied up are they? that will greatly affect our decisions and our characters should already know it.

also, what kind of bridge is it? concrete? rope?

and confirming, they are standing on the bridge itself, right?
