DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Next Release, lets start planning :D
« on: October 28, 2007, 06:52:00 pm »
I am going to build in a flat barren desert with no water and no mountains. I'll dig straight down into the sand. It may take me a couple tries before I find a map with a water table, so most of my starting build will be food and water.

When I don't have to worry about that anymore... I'll be building massive Pyramids in which my Dwarves will live.

Metal stuff is worth the most. Even plain Iron crafts go for a lot. If you don't take the anvil you should really take a highly skilled bone carver or stone crafter because otherwise you'll have problems with trading.

I don't know about fish, but more animals will gradually wander onto the map.

Gotta use Steel when dealing with magma, everything else melts.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: blood blood everywhere
« on: November 02, 2007, 01:13:00 pm »
I have a lot of blood, but I think it's because my dwarves are tripping and falling. I have a glacier fortress and I notice that most of the blood is on the frozen ice, and that a lot of my dwarves have minor wounds (gray ones that aren't enough to make them bedridden).

It's kind of annoying though that dwarves will go out of their way to clean up melted water but not tracked mud, blood, or vomit.

We need a "dump" command with a selectable area, and all the items within that area get a "dump" flag. Would be a hell of a lot easier than pressing k then D then -> and repeating 100 times.

Wow. That is brilliant. Also solves the problem on how to put grates over my sewers! I love you!

You may also have to make them dump their old clothes first... if thats possible.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: So isn't it hard to lose?
« on: December 02, 2007, 01:53:00 pm »
I've always wondered this also. Even with the old version, my fortress was never in any real danger.

Now it's even easier.

Granted, you do get those random situations where your party starts next to a high end monster and they all get gibbed instantly, but those really don't count imo.

I'm wondering if they can go down stairs as well...

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Ideas for an aquifer map???
« on: October 30, 2007, 10:18:00 am »
I was wondering this also. Maybe you can build a square of walls on the aquifer level, pump out the water within the walls, and then dig down from there?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Water trouble!
« on: October 29, 2007, 07:59:00 pm »
I know that.

I'm saying if you don't start in an area with water on the surface, you pretty much can't have a fortress.

I was under the assumption that there were cave rivers underground still and there don't seem to be.

DF Gameplay Questions / Water trouble!
« on: October 29, 2007, 07:37:00 pm »
My first two forts I was forced to abandon because there was simply no water to be found.

I then created a fortress with 7 miners and had them dig for the last hour. I honeycombed the ground 10 layers down and have found no water (though I now have a good idea on what levels different ores are found).

The only maps that seem to have water are those with rivers and water tables, but I have no idea how to get through the water tables! Anyone figure this stuff out yet?

Maybe I'm blind, but I can't find the option to look at different Z levels in the new version. How do I do it?
