I have found a workaround to allow your dwarves to use melee weapons associated with other skills than the ones you can select in the military page.

It's rather simple. I figured out wile trying to make true throwing weapons (unsuccessfully) that ranged weapons use their ammo skill type when firing, but revert to their actual weapon skill type when out of ammo.

So what you want to do is something like this.

Note that the actual weapon type is dagger wile the ammo uses the sword skill.
Since your dwarves equip ranged weaponry based on what skill the ammo has you'll be able to equip weapons that use the dagger skill when you tell them to equip swords.

In order to avoid them actually using the ammo to fire (which would look really retarded) I simply did not give the entity entry for this weapon an ammo type underneath it.

I just found this out about 5 min ago so it might not work in all circumstances.

DF Modding / Do modded in civs hunt or recieve migrants?

I have been tinkering with modded civs yet I cannot find a tag that enables or prevents hunting yet my race refuses to do so.

Also for some reason I'm not getting any new migrants eather and I'm wondering if its just hardcoded or something wrong with the entity.

There have been many threads about the legacy of the greatest dwarves to ever smite a goblin but what about their furry counterparts. Do they not also deserve great ballads in their honor, of their great deeds?

What spur me to make this thread was my favorite pet to date. A female grizzly bear. She was personally responsible for fending off my underdeveloped fortress from sure destruction of many goblin ambushes. So many a goblin did she kill she gained the name of "Bowwire".

Alas I lost this great titan of evisceration to a random goblin thief and a lucky shot.

Anyone else have any epic tales of our domestic champions?

DF Bug Reports / [176.38a] Unintentional Theft

I was in the middle of a major construction project when I noticed merchants had come and I had no Trade Depot, so I constructed one quickly.

They came and we traded and when I was done I noticed I built the Depot in the middle of where I had planed on my main road being, so I quickly deconstructed.

I continued to do work on the main road when the merchants left then I noticed something odd. Not only did they not take my crafts that I had traded them when they left, but they left EVERYTHING including the stuff I couldn't afford.

It seems like it's a way to seize all property of a trader with no negative repercussions.

I just received a fall migration and received a swordsdwarf, Since it labled him swordsdwarf and not peasant he's active duty. So, he'll just stand there in the square he spawned until you eather take him out of the millitary or put him off duty.

Not necessarily a bug, but its very tedious if you get several military dwarves in one migration.

My countess decided that since one of her mandates went ignored she would jail my mayor. Shortly there after my clerk decided to go complain to him.

Both the major and the clerk had the "Attend Meeting" jobs though I don't think they ever talked. My mayor finally got released but the clerk still stands there, refusing to do any jobs except occasionally going out to clean. He always returns back to the exact spot even if I draft him, he goes and grabs his equipment and "Soldiers" in that one square.

He seems to be getting food and drink alright cause I have a feeling he's been like this for quite a wile and he's not thirsty or hungry.

Sound like when he tried to have the meeting with the jailed mayor it overloaded his brain and shutoff.

DF Bug Reports / Can't generate world

Everything starts normal and I pick the create world option and it goes threw generation fine, I create a world but when It goes back to the main menu the only options I have are Create world and exit.

I hope somone can help me cause Ive been itching to play this game.
