edit: oh snap this is in Adventure discussion, that's what I get for having multiple Tabs open  :P

ok ambush sizes are increased by having more companions, so fewer companions means smaller ambushes

I've heard sleeping or possibly fast traveling has been known to allow adventurers to spontaneously travel to the surface.

Dear Urist McNecromancerdwarf While we here at the fortress of Rusted Harmony Applaud your Interest in Migrating to our fortress after only two years of construction we would rather you had left your 100+ Life challenged friends at home.

Grudges aren't actually bad at all, when they die they give happy thoughts to all!

Heh I think you've found your first Victim Test-subject Recruit.  ;D

Oh my god...

I totally removed the up part of my staircase without even thinking about it.  They still had the down part so I didn't notice...

I'll just be throwing myself down the well now, I'm clearly not fit to lead these poor sods to their death.

Don't be Silly, This is the sort of leadership that the dwarves expect nay REQUIRE from their leaders...
while the lack of booze is harsh I Imagine that they Respect you even more now that you've proven your dwarfiness  :P

that's easy to explain.

the Vampire
A: has to eat regularly and doing so causes a KILL (because a vampire has to drain a person to feed.)

B: is in hiding and only the Quest giver knows that they are actually a VAMPIRE so when you out them the angry mob of villagers take out their vengeance.

while the Mega-Beast

A: eats ether grass or wild animals (which don't add to It's kill list.) IF it even NEEDS to eat at all, I can't Imagine a bronze colossus needing food.

B: Are nearly mythical and rarely come into contact with civilization AND WHEN THEY DO you'd better believe people are going to RUN FOR THEIR LIVES and then tell stories about the sighting at the local tavern until they are old and grey.

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Trap_design#Goblin_Grinder

there you go

Install a few of those and close your other entrances.
they also make a great emergency entrance to your fort since your dwarves won't trigger the traps but goblins chasing them WILL

« on: April 19, 2012, 04:26:37 am »
Go to the military screen, press n, then press c, and thats how to make a new uniform!

This but leave out a weapon so you can use it for multiple squads by adding weapons Individually (e from the military screen.)

you can also use this to adjust each dwarves equipment as you see fit. (maby you want a badass with two weapons instead of a shield or a single weapon held with both hands.)

see if you can train it into a WAR spider... >.<

but it's all up to him really

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Today I tortured a horse

I'd stick to lions, bears, and dragons those horses come armed with war-hammers you know.  :P

I'd say mine was...
when a group of Civilians got locked outside the fortress when a Titan made from rock showed up and Instead of being Slaughtered
they all opened fire with crossbows and downed the beast without taking a single casualty.
(I'd enabled hunting on everyone and had a good supply of crossbows and bolts.)

my most resent Fort had a Kea evasion every spring....
worse was when I sent military squads after them. The darn things would Strip equipment (mostly shields) off the armed dwarves and fly off with it. ::)
that makes them far more effective thieves than anything else I've seen, kobolds and rhesus macaques you could at least fight off.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Clean them traps
« on: April 18, 2012, 07:10:14 pm »
Yea I've never gotten the Mass-dump to work on caged prisoners ether. (and I was worried the little Idiots would chuck the loot into
my active garbage disposal  :-\)

As an alternate solution just pit them into a sealable execution chamber of your preferred flavor Pitfall, drowning, repeater spikes, anything but magma or atom smashing should leave the goblinite recoverable.

or you know just replace the cage traps with a goblin grinder to simplify the process even further. a Grinder will strip your goblins while it executes them all without the trouble of ether capturing or pitting them.
