DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How to win DF2012... Thoughts?
« on: April 18, 2012, 06:12:34 pm »
Winning? Dwarf Fortress? MADNESS I say, those words should not even be in the same paragraph much less the same sentence or used in relation to each other.

with that out of the way...

Okay, how's this for 'winning' conditions for a DF Release;  You must confront and nullify the most deadly environmental aspects of that release.  They must be fully pacified in a way that they are no longer able to harm the dwarves in any way, shape or form.  If there is a random chance of it still harming them, it doesn't count.

On that note, for DF2012, you'd have to negate syndrome rain, build a safe fort in a cursed zone, and prevent syndrome clouds from being able to harm your dwarves at all.

the rain should be do-able by building a Roof across the world. I guess the clouds would take walling off the embark area completely as well, taken together this means building a Bio-dome of sorts over the embark area.
a very difficult task under these conditions but not Impossible given some luck.

A forth minecart thread? God damn.

Hopefully the mine-carts themselves won't get derailed as often as the threads about them do.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Quest to kill empty string
« on: April 15, 2012, 12:23:06 am »
the quest description is "Kill ", and speaking to the quest giver yields "And serve you shall have, as soon as  is dead" (there are two spaces there).

it is perfectly clear, you must construct a super massive black-hole and Kill "Space" itself.

IMO, she sounds like the kind of person that leaps on an opportunity to either:
A) get money
B) screw people over for the sheer fun of it (there is lots none, by the way)

This...
If you dog didn't even come into contact with the other dog much less cause harm (as the Information so far seems to point to and the medical bill appears to be for something non-related to a dog fight/attack.)
I'd contact a lawyer and start the paperwork on a for Fraud case ASAP.

Life Advice / Re: Facial hair or lack thereof.

Claiming Religious Discrimination seems the most reliable Route.

or you might try following the rules Exactly as written and Literately shave all the hair off your face (eyebrows Included.) then claim Discrimination if ALL the students are not required to Follow the rules EXACTLY AS WRITTEN.

mithbusters said it

Actually no, Adam Savage was most likely quoting Doctor Who from 1978 "the deadly assassin"
and while the original line was "I DENY your reality and substitute my own", the meaning is Identical and the wording close enough that it was likely a miss quote ether due to faulty memory or to avoid copyright infringement.

the more you know....

1826: someone tells you that you "have a drinking problem" and you reply that no you shouldn't because you have your still running and have plenty of barrels stockpiled.

1827: you have a still and a stockpile of barrels.

1828: someone tells you to "Go to hell" and you seriously consider whether or not your ready yet.

1829: you are stockpiling weapons and training constantly because someone told you that the carnival is coming to town.

Bronze Colossus: a giant Greek or Roman style bronze statue come to life and bent on destruction. basically like the first boss in God of War II.

Longland grass: wheat
Pig-tails: Cat tails.
Rope read: Hemp.
Sunberries: Raspberries

and I wonder if in DF Strawberries are literally Berries that look like drinking straws... O.o

DRM's are one of the three things that I absolutely detest about "modern" gaming.
the other two are DLC's (downloadable content.) and Micro-Transactions.

Anyway, DF is makes the transition from playing a hero to playing a monster unbelievably smooth. One moment, you are embarking on a heroic quest to get the land rid of a horrible dragon or a troll, and before you know it, you are slaughtering everyone in every city you pass through because some trivial misunderstanding about kicking a door and its owner open.

Hey one civilization's "Hero" is anther's Blood thirsty monster bent on genocide and remember that it's the victors that make the history books.

No, just no

not every game needs to have multiplayer.
