I thought the hell walls were complete?

They were, but a few overseers have made breaches in them to try and drain Hell of magma.

Speaking of which, how's Hell look right now, NCommander?

I can see four demons mulling around down there, which have already broke pretty much every single piece of furniture down there. I looked at ways to remove them, but we don't have any GCS for webbed traps (actually, the entire first cavern layer seems to be MIA), and the third cavern layer is flooding and on !!fire!!. I was hoping to collect nethercap for a pumpstack, but that's not possible without a military (or some *very* fast woodcutters/haulers).

The checkerboard pretty much been demolished, and while I've got sand collection working so reloading the magma chamber is possible, I don't think the demons will run up into the main fort unless they're provoked (as is there behavior in Deathgate).

On the flipside, our military is coming along nicely. All will be skilled fighters before the year is out, and with each level, they're training faster. Their wrestling skill is *barely* growing, but its not surprisingly, sparring/skill demos seem to be capped by the fighter level of the dwarf. On the two dwarfs that hit Level 5 fighter, wrestler is at 3, the others are either dabbling or novice. I should note that everyone was dabbling or novice in summer. Given that training gets a *hell* of a lot faster as they get skilled, I'm pretty sure we'll hit elite wrestlers sometime in 110 (maybe early 111) if left undisturbed, at which point I recommend equipping them with weapons and armors, let them train one more year (should hit Lord *fast*), then retake hell by dwarven steel.

(after we import the steal that is).

EDIT: I don't think the fort has much in terms of candy weapons (most of the candy went to the swordthunders logo in hell), but I found there are at least two z-levels unmined. Probably enough for at least one set of candy armor/weaponary (if not two).

I just had a picture of the corpses lounging outside and guzzling our booze just waiting for the fort to self-destruct.

This is after-all a Battlefailed fort, failure is the only thing we can succeed at ...

So, uh... guys... don't hate me...  I think I made this fort functional, sane, and efficiently designed.  Can you ever forgive me?

... fuck ...

(though why the undead is drinking the booze, I will never know)

Wait wasn't she already Count? Or some other noble position? Regardless that is messed up. Edit: Also what did the Dwarf do that I murdered?

When I got the save, the nobles screen listed corsac as "a county", and Erica as "a barony". When corsac committed suicide by goblin, he disappeared off the nobles screen. Now it currently reads "a county" only, with Erica listed.

I was under the impression that the baron was always upgraded to count (and the wiki suggests that's what supposed to happen), so having a separate baron/count seems to have been a bug in the first place and the game auto-corrected. The other side of it is there's a long standing bug that if a promoted noble (baron/count/duke) dies, the game never replaces them. Either way, the game bugged up hard on this. I suspect a lot of this may be due to the fort is in reclaim mode which causes our wealth to be "odd" (it only counts wealth created since the reclaim and not whats present).

I *never* had a DF2010 game successfully get a promotion so it seems a bit odd that Swordthunders managed to go all the way to county (twice!) without a bug-up.

If we loose the count, I recommend a temporarily raw fix so we can appoint a new one. (process is making the postition appointable by the mayor, appointing the person, then restoring the raws to as is; then again, I also always fix elves/humans diplomats, and in 2010, used dfhack fixwagons.).

EDIT: Forgot to mention: zarcen, your dwarf beat Squirrelliod to death.

DF Community Games & Stories / (Planning) A 2D retro-succession game ...
« on: September 30, 2012, 08:17:11 pm »
I've had some ideas of running a 23a succession game, since most of us don't seem to have started playing DF 'til the 3D days, and one of the ideas of Horrorfailed  was to do a 2D game as a prequel (i.e., where the evil came from). This idea has stuck with me for ages, so I'm curious if there are enough players to actually do such a game. I did post about it in the Horrorcannon thread, but it didn't seem to gather a lot of interest. The only notable game from that era is Boatmurdered, so having another 23a game seems worthwhile.

If we can get 4-5 players to start, and a good name for a fort, I'll gen the world and get the ball rolling. I'm open to name suggests, starting seven (with what equipment to bring), and any mods/tweaks to make to the raws if there's a desire. I'm also planning on having various goals for the fort to reach (i.e., attract this noble, get the king to arrive, have a professional military, etc.).

Linux users: 23a seems to work well in WINE (I tested it earlier before proposing it). Can't say anything for mac though ...

This looks awesome, add me to the bolding list, any military please.

Also seconding the idea of using clay wherever possible.

FIX IT!!!!!!! Also seriously why was I wearing an Elk Bird Leather Dress?

You came that way :-P. I didn't assign it. I' physically can't GET to the pressure plate to disable it, so I disconnected the pumps and openedthe drainage floodgate. In theory, once water dropsto 6/7 all around,I should be able to get in and deconstruct the plate.

I need a successor I need to see how many Dwarves will die under my name (also it means people CAN punish me by making him work on the hell walls) also I thought the hell walls were complete? :3 Also that dress makes me wonder if I was a chick. I never remember to check half my dwarves genders.

Hrm, dwarfs dying under your name?

No problem.

You are now Lolor 'zacen299 II' Gusiltat, sheriff, but preferred to be known as Dwarf Slayer. You already have one kill (a dwarf) to your name and will likely kill many more due to beatings or prisoners starving to death.

EDIT: The save just bugged up royally. Granted I've never gotten a baron before, so this may be off base, but Instead of getting the duchy promotion (and having a dwarf promoted to said postition and I was prompted to select a dwarf), Erica was promoted to count instead, complete with message.

I might have really cocked this up, the pressure plate is now preventing the flood corridor from properly draining. i didn't take into account that as it drains, water will fluxiate between 6/7 and 7/7 causing multiple trigger signals to open the cristen floodgates

the entity raws seem kinda messy with the nobles and such, but I haven't had a chance to play with this mod yet. One thought is to limit reactions to specific species so you have to trade to get some kinda goods (plus liaisons where needed).

880
I definately need to playtest this as soon as I finish my turn in swordthunders. FFT is still my favorite game of all of the, but FF9 is my favorite from the mainline.

Do you want any assistance with modding at all?

881
I'm getting on another plane tomorrow, so probably no updates til late Sat or Sun but I plan on finishing my turn this weekend. Sorry for the delay.

Chief Medical Dwarf - Goden 'NCommander' Kilrudmegid

Well, until yesterday things have been slow. I began work on automated the FDS so it can automatically drown goblins.

As we lack trained mechanics, I've begun training by creating mechanisms. As the spring continued, our new migrant, zacen299 demanded to become a beekeeper so he could "die horribly to goblins". I told him to go beekeep and had hives installed.

I also took advantage of our skylight to setup a patch of strawberry farming. We will soon have strawberry wine flowing in our stocks!

We also had the human traders arrive, but failed to trade as our broker decided not to go the depot despite being burrowed. As work progressed on automating the FDS, I had additional doors installed by the hatch/bridge incase one does make it through to prevent a pressure flood. A retaining wall was also built around the skylight

I also had another set of sterling silver bars forged so we can handle additional mandates, but due to lack of refined silver, we only have four on hand. Due to the mess of mechanisms throughout the fort, I ended up forbidding all expect for the stockpile near the workshop level. Even then, the plate wasn't rigged until yesterday, but we will get back to that

As I reviewed our status, I found this lovely message left by a previous overseer

Very funny.

Morale across the fort seems to be improving, as our outpost leader decided to throw a party

I also took rebuilding the hospital to have tables and traction benches next to the beds so we won't disturb our patents.

A snatcher tried to run in, but got caught in one of the cage traps

Summer passed without note, as did most of fall.

A seige engineer came and made it in without issue, and helped with the hauling duties until I could figure out what to do with him. Following him was the outpost liason and the dwarven caravan.

Then following that, without warning, the goblins came.

Just before this, the FDS's pressure plates were rigged. I had installed a cage connected to a lever which would serve as the testbed for the FDS, but I decided to test it with a more interesting target.

zacen299 suddenly got his wish.

That was quick.

I locked the entrance hatches, and ordered the door to the FDS unforbidden. The goblins immediately raced in.

And reached the pressure plate.

Nothing happens ...

I suspect I mis-set the pressure plate when it was installed, but I can't worry about that now. Immediately I ordered the FDS bridge lever pulled, and the hatch closed to lock them in place. With the goblins locked in place, I had the orders issued to activate the FDS manually. As dwarfs ran to the activation levers, the liason told me we are eligible for promotion!

I then heard a sound I once heard before.

The sound of the failure ...

One of the drainage floodgates had jammed open and forced the FDS into fuck-the-world mode. Due to the location of the leak, the fort is now sealed from the outside world due to 7/7 water directly below the entrance hatches. A second set of redesigns will be necessary. On the plus side.

I ran to check points of the fort that had flooded during the previous event, and to my relief, they remain dry. The surface retaining wall has done its job.

On the downside, the trade depot had a series of fortifactions (presumably to allow marksdwarfs to safely attack goblins). The depot is now underwater.

I ordered the door locked less the flood drowns Swordthunders, but there is nothing that I can do to help. May Amrok have mercy on my soul ...

I don't think this can get any worse.

Proper surface-grown honey and strawberries are strange thing to have in Swordthunders.

Also, just to make it known, getting magma to the surface of Swordthunders would be a tricky proposition - there's no iron on the map.

Challenge Accepted. Add me for a second turn and I'll do my best to create a magma pumpstack.

Actually, its pretty easy. There's a patch of sand on Z-110 and glass is magma-safe. Just need a metric asston of bags. I just dislike the glass industries need for a constant supply of bags. If I play with glass, I usually have one non-magma furance with a repeat collect sand and profiled dedicated collectors, and then fill the queue with suspended jobs so managers don't send jobs to it.

884
I'll take a dwarf, preferably any red/green or purple.

885
So another migrant arrived. Truth be told, its been pretty quiet; work on automating the FDS continues, and I have production orders for hives and wooden jugs in place to get mead flowing.
