Your moving van had been driving for hours and hours on end and you just now are getting a view of te ranch. The view from this angle is spectacular! You're driving along a mountain road on the east side of the property. Stretching out before you are rolling prairie and woods. The property is much bigger than you expected. The north and east edges are mostly woods that expand off into the distance, but the rest of it is mostly field with a few lone trees. You glimpse a stream running diagonally across the north eastern corner. It's truly a sight to see. After twenty long minutes of windy mountain road and a very long driveway, you are finally here. Your new home and new life.

Old man Moreau is standing outside the farm house to greet you. The house is old looking, a mix of run down and rustic. "I'd love to stay and chat, but I have a flight to catch. I'm taking Mrs. Moreau on a vacation." He winks. "Anyhow here are the keys to the house and the barn. Gotta go, bye!" The quirky old man basically throws the keys at you and jumps into his station wagon. Top hits from forty years immediately begin blaring out of the ancient speakers and he drives away. You hear him singing along as he drives into the distance. The music fades out the whole place is quiet and peaceful.

Here you are, keys in hand, ready to unlock your future. All you have todo is unpack and meet your monsters. Mr Moreau was nice enough to leave you his last few monsters as part of the deal. They should be in their stalls.

Today you will familiarize with your monsters and your new roommates. Tomorrow you will get to work.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Monster Breeder: Now an RP! OOC
« on: July 16, 2015, 12:34:27 pm »
Inspired by and with the permission of the great and powerful Cheesecake, I've decided to start a monster breeder RP.

Your story:
You and a few friends have taken out a huge loan of 100,000 coin to buy yourselves your own monster ranch. It's a bit run down, but was a great deal considering that monster ranches typically cost several times that amount. Included in that loan was enough money for each of you to purchase a single starter monster to get your ranch started. The old Moreau ranch is located outside a rural town and several hours away from any major population center.

World lore:
200 years ago monsters suddenly appeared in the world. The world was not technologically advanced and had only begun to dabble in magic. Overnight the world became a much more dangerous place, and the lives of many a knight were lost to the monsters. However as time passed defenses were raised and many lands were rid of the most dangerous of monsters. However, many dangerous monsters still roam the untamed frontiers of the world. In the last 20 years some people got the idea to tame monsters and use them to defend and better society. Some reguardless this a dangerous and ludicrous, but others found that the best way to fight monsters is with their own monsters. Within a few years monsters made their way into the everyday life and culture of the world.

What your ranch comes with:
5 monster "stalls" - non specialized enclosures that can hold any normal type monsters. They are basically bare at this point and will need to furnished to suit specific monster needs.
1 Tartarus -  A strange swirling dark pit enclosed in a room made of stone bricks. When monsters die, they may respawn from their home Tartarus if they have attuned their souls to it. In addition, if two monsters enter a Tartarus, they may fuse their energy to form a new offspring monster. This process is not well understood and doesn't always work.
1 training area- it's big enough that several monsters of small size may train there at once.
4 monsters- one for each player.
1 farm house- has 4 bedrooms, a kitchen, one full bath, one half bath, and a living room.
1 small stream and pond- located close to the edge of your property.

This game is not first come first serve. There will be a secret selection process. This game will be RP intensive, and not rule intensive. By that I mean If it comes down to it, I'll roll for some actions and events, but there won't be much more in the way of strict mechanical functions. RP will be the main focus by far.

This game will, if there are enough players, start when I return to my laptop and don't have to type all this on my phone. Please pardon any errors in this post, for that same reason.

You set out two and a half months ago for this new and unknown land. It has been a long hard journey. There have been rough seas, rationing, and general crampedness for the entire journey. You have seen a great number of strange water beasts, several of which were large enough to sink the ships if they desired. By some miracle all of the ships have arrived without casualty. Shore is not but a mile away, and after many weeks of living aboard the ship, all are eager to disembark. However, the representative from the Republic of Magical Races has called a meeting aboard their ship and stated that no being may set feet upon those shores until the conclusion of this meeting.

The delegates have now all arrived and the representative is about to speak. He is a Magonian, a pale white human with blond hair. His eyes are green and piercing. Normally the RMR is a soft-handed organization that doesn't really hold very much power. This man, however, is a force to be reckoned with. He is Nejuvious the Third, the gem of the RMR, and ex-arch-mage and ex-tactician for the Magonian Empire.  If he were not in charge of this endeavor, there would have been a race for the new world and general chaos across the entire known world.

"I am Nejuvious, the Overseer of this endeavor. I chose this title because it implies my true role here; to oversee, but not to direct. I am no president or dictator or politician, that is your job and I will have little to do with it. I am here to guide meetings, to bring issues before the group, and to deter any sort of infighting between groups. His eyes focus on Throg then Ninthalor. The reason I have called you all here, in full sight of our long out of reach destination, is to impart a warning and begin the construction of order.

These lands are completely unknown. The flora, fauna, and people of these strange lands are complete mysteries to us. Perhaps we will be greeted with open arms, perhaps we will be attacked before we can gain a foothold. No one will know until it happens. As a result, I encourage the swift building of defenses as well as shelter for your people. To not do so could be potentially fatal.
He paused for a moment before moving onto the main cause for this meeting.

As the Overseer of this colony by the power invested in me by the Republic of Magical Races, I hereby create the position of Presiding Officer. I appoint myself the Presiding Officer of any and all legislative bodies that hereby follow. I, in addition, hereby create the title of Representative and bestow this title upon the following individuals: Jack Richards of the Humans, Throg Troll Slayer of the Green Orcs, Durin Grayforge of the Dwarf and Gnome Alliance, Rojas of the Lizardfolk, Ulamo of the Centaurs, Ninthalor of the Wood Elves, and Viceroy Kistos of the Inheritors. Lastly, I bestow the power of legislation upon the aforementioned Representatives. It is through their discourse that the structure of our new government shall come to fruition.

General murmurs spread through the group. This man wanted them to design the structure of the government for themselves.

At this point, no full government need be planned, although that is certainly an option of merit. A temporary treatise or government structure can be put into place by either I or you the Representatives. From here on out, our course of action is up to you and you alone.

Nejuvious opens the floor to the issues phase. The issue at hand in the planning of a temporary or permanent system of government. With either option, the governmental structure can always be revisited.

This is the OOC thread for the new Pawns game.

The world is in a cold war. Or a very warm peace, its hard to tell. For centuries the races have warred almost endlessly, but in recent years a treaty has brought a tentative peace to the lands. Now a new continent has been discovered in the west and this discovery has threatened to unbalance the delicate peace. Tales of danger, fortune, and glory spread like wildfire across the land. The discovery was made by a new world power, the Republic of Magical Races (RMR) and the have proposed the following. On this new continent a republic of all the races will be established. All major races, and many minor races, will be allowed a seat at this new table of power. And a cut of the riches.

The Game:
Players will play as a representative of their race of choice and will try to advance their political goals as well as the goals of their people and country.

The game will be split into three phases, each lasting about 12-24 irl hours.

Issues Phase: When the RMR Head of Colony brings new issues to the attention of the members and the members discuss the issues.
Voting Phase: When the members vote on aforementioned issues.
Action phase: When players can mobilize their resources and take various actions.

There are several preapproved races, however custom races can be PM'd to me and I can give it the OK or veto them.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Pawns Reboot
« on: July 06, 2015, 12:29:11 am »
With Iituem's permission I'm going to pick up the Pawns game. However, its been dead for a bit so I'm gonna just restart it. I'm hoping to keep it low maintenance, but updated fairly regularly depending on the players. Hopefully this one will go better than the god games I design. The systems are exactly as Iituem designed, I just have more time than they do  :P

"Back to a more traditional vein of God Game this time.  Going for something more low-maintenance.

In Pawns, as you might expect, players take the roles of divine beings.  In this game your deities are almost entirely passive.  Being removed from the mundane world they have an almost unrivalled overview of it, but they cannot act upon it without mortal intermediaries - priests and pawns.

At the start of the game the six gods start out having freshly awakened, awareness of them having only just been kindled in their tribes.  Whether they will guide them as shepherds or prey on them as wolves remains to be seen, but their avenues of interaction are limited:

Magic: You can gift Power to chosen mortals (priests, or perhaps wizards) with which to do magic.  How this magic is applied is limited by the Aspects of magic they know, which is somewhat informed by your Sphere.  You cannot directly tell them what to cast (except via a Pawn), although you can set certain conditions as part of your blessing (e.g. they must sacrifice a person to you before they are eligible to receive Power, and you indicate an expectation that such sacrifices will continue afterwards).  You can withdraw your provision of Power, but only as a blanket measure - if you set up a ritual to allow your priests to draw Power and one goes rogue, you would need to end the ritual entirely, not just for the rogue.  Magic can do pretty much anything, but is limited by Power and complexity.

Boons: At an expenditure of Power you can directly reshape an object or creature, be it animal, believer, non-believer or Pawn in a beneficial way - increasing or improving some aspect of them, or providing a new one.  Healing or restoration is part of this, as is enchanting magical items etc.  Drawbacks can be included, so long as the net gain is 'positive'.  The more Power you invest, the more dramatic the result will be.  If the boon you are granting relates to your Sphere in some way, the effect will be magnified.  If you intend the boon to be hereditary it will cost significantly more or the effect will be significantly weakened.  You can spread the boon over multiple targets with a consummate increase in cost.

Pawns: At a small sustained cost of Power you can designate one of a small number of mortals born when the Hero's Star passes over the world as a Pawn.  You can appear before a Pawn in their dreams or speak to them in their heads, which is the only way you can directly communicate with a mortal.  Depending on how much they worship you, or how much they stand to gain, they may go along with your commands - but how they approach the task will be defined by their personality.

NB: A mortal can be Pawn to multiple gods at once.  When made a Pawn, the mortal can talk back to their patron and be sure to be heard.  Once you designate a Pawn, you cannot undesignate them - that Power drain will remain until they die.  More than this, designating someone a Pawn makes them important to Fate - whether or not you command them their actions will have a significant effect upon the world.

Prayer: Prayer is a way for mortals to speak to you, but it is a one way communication.  Unless coupled with a significant sacrifice, you will tend to hear prayers as broad desires of your worshippers, not specific details.  A prayer with a significant sacrifice can be used to contact you, even by a non-believer.  You would have to make them a Pawn to talk directly back, although you could send a Pawn to talk to them.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / The Adventurer's Guild
« on: July 05, 2015, 06:57:41 pm »
Welcome to the Adventurers Guild! The guild was once a grand, well known, and influential force within the city. It was the height of power, elegance, and knowledge for the entire city. But that was the past. As the years have gone by the guild has lost reputation, and most of its money. It is now little more than a tavern frequented by the retired adventurers of the golden days. However, jobs still roll in occasionally and a fresh batch of young adventurers may be able to breath life back into the Guild.

The game that follows will be a semi-free form RPG where players will be encouraged to RP with each other as well as play in the actual quests of the game.

The game:
You will play as a young and completely inexperienced adventurer. You will start as the equivalent of a level 1 player in a MMORPG, which is to say, you're quite weak. However, as time goes on you will gain better equipment and more power. The way that you do this is by taking quests that are posted on the quest board. Quests may be taken solo or in groups and often have various rewards.

You the player:
You will start off as a novice adventurer of some sort. Whichever path you wish to take; archer, wizards, rouge, warrior, druid, whatever, is all possible. However, you will start off at the beginning of whatever class you decide you'd like to be. You can take quests and RP with other adventurers and NPCs in the guild tavern. You'll start as a level one (the lowest level) and rank ten (lowest rank) novice adventurer, after that you can do pretty much anything.

Character sheet:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Important NPCs:
Guild Master: No one calls him by his real name, in fact, you don't even know what it is. He is a quiet old man who is a deep well of knowlege and advice. He hardly ever approaches anyone and mostly stay secluded in his room. When he was younger he was a second rank adventurer and quite renown.

Bar tender: The bar tender knows the rumor mill like he knows how to make a fine drink. Ok, so his drinks are actually awful, but his information is still decent. He knows rumors around town, but has no confirmation on any of it. Take everything he says with a grain of salt.

Trainers: Occasional trainers wander into the guild to see if there is anyone in need of their services. Warrior and wizard trainers are the most common, but more unorthodox individuals come around occasionally. In exchange for some coin, these people will teach you new abilities.

The Quest Board: While not an actual person, this board will list the available quests that adventurers can take. The more quests people do, the more likely more quests are to appear. Failure to complete quests mean that less quests will become available.

The Priest: Priests are important because they tie individual's souls to the cathedral. If you die with your soul tied you will be resurrected at the cathedral. They can also remove curses, some poisons, and other unholy afflictions. They also have knowledge of many things on the holy/unholy spectrum.

Shopkeeper:They are the person who buys and sells equipment. They may haggle with you or provide side quests if they need something specific.
Sorry for all the colors.

A little lore: This world is high fantasy. That means that is is a complete fantasy world and not like ours at all. It has all the general races that you'd see in any fantasy setting, and is perfectly capable of housing ones that either you (the players) or I think of. The world is wild and varied, as are its people and creatures. Players may have to do some asking around to get good information on areas they are going for quests.

Hey I was thinking about starting an apocalypse survival RP, but wasn't sure if there would be tons of interest. It would be pretty free form, but it will include cybernetics, mutations, zombies, monsters, magic, gods, and whatever else I decide to throw in. The general theme is that the world (more advanced than ours) ended when our universe collided with the magical universe. As a result, the two are mixed like oil and water. They are integrated, but not exactly mixed into one. Besides that, you have to survive the apocalypse as monsters of all sorts roam the lands.

Players would start as a normal citizen from either universe. Military from each side are allowed, but may be assigned inventories/starting locations. Once the game starts they may gain power in any of the three. All players act separately on a turn basis.

The apocalypse was completely unpredicted and caught everyone by surprise. Many people died as the two worlds competed for space in the same location. As a result there are transference borders (areas where the two worlds crashed). You can tell where these are because the terrain of one world will end abruptly as the next starts. In addition, transference storms still occasionally rage. These change the layout of areas they touch dramatically. Some areas are more stable than others. The less stable areas are mostly in ruins now. Besides that, the two worlds exist on the same plane of existence. I'll crystallize the story more if I get some interest.

You and your fellow crew mates are the are freelance spacers. You take up odd jobs, go to odd places, and do odd things. Sometimes you get paid, sometimes you don't, that's really just how it goes. This game would be a strange combination of FTL, Doctor Who, space things and high fantasy. Right now its just a sort of idea I have in my head and I'm just wondering to see if anyone would be interested in me setting something up a space meets fantasy game. People could play as aliens or whatever they wanted really (as long as they can explain it well enough).

Sign-up/declaration of interest:

Species: (Should be explained well, can also be high fantasy)

Backstory: (Can be long or a single word.)

EDIT: You don't have to sign up right now, you can just simply say you're interested.

Here's how the game works.

Claim your spot by posting!

Round one: Everyone makes an aspect of a dungeon and a monster. You PM it to me.

Round two: Everyone enters the dungeon. Whoever survives wins the game and gets more control over the next round.

Magic, swords, guns, mutations, whatever, its ok. Whats not ok is being in a mech or ship or something. If its borderline, ask in a PM.

This is a simple post-apocalyptic futuristic survival game. The world was more advanced than ours. It had rampant cybernetics and genetic mutation. Everything sort of fell apart, no big nuclear war or anything, the world just sort of dried up and collapsed. That's when the mutants and the radiation storms came. The government is probably still out there, somewhere, but not here. The four original players are a few people who have been surviving in bunker, but you're going to run out of food soon. You have to make a few hard decisions in order to survive.

This is the trial round of this game, expect there to be some quirks and on the fly fixes. But all the systems are ready to be tested.

Its first come first serve and anyone who wants to provide feedback totally should join.
