Xan, would your character have any powers beyond the avocado's, I.E. being able to do something beyond running around biting people (and perhaps making their hair fabulous too)?  Or would it really just be an easily killed anklebiter?  I... honestly, while good for a cheap laugh, that character idea is quite disappointing compared to Xan.

You may be forgetting Xan's humble origins as an insane homocidal child from a colony who thought he was dead and had a corpse mother named Blonko. He started out as nothing more than an easily killed anklebiter himself.

No, 'homocidal round vegetable' is just my base concept. I'm not entirely sure where I'm going to take Xantato (working title), but I'm gestating creativity in my brain gizzard as we speak.

Question for Ozarck, since ER's ended and I can now dedicate the mental energy that went into creating and running Xan's personality into something else: would a potato be an acceptable creature?

Specifically an evil giant (like basketball sized) talking potato with arms and legs.

EDIT: I would also be okay with something else such as an avocado or a pumpkin, just so long as it's round, no bigger than a cat, and looks terrifying if given a maw of sharp teeth.

It's funny, yeah. They're like the Lawful Evil/Chaotic Evil pair. They have pretty much the same motivation (survive forever), it's just that they have very different ways of going about that - Saint works within the systems and uses them to his advantage, while Xan might do that but generally just pursues his own goals without regard for anyone else's safety, trying to build himself into a thing that can exist forever. Independence vs cooperation, society vs isolation.

I even think they have a song that describes them.

Well, the name describes their parallels. Not really some of the lyrics unless their secret war is really just an elaborate courtship.

Fortunately that shouldn't be necessary since Xan's not overtly hostile to humanity as a whole like the Altered were.

Though I don't think he's a hivemind, just a giant collective of Xans that are all exact copies of one another, making them act basically like one since they can pretty easily guess what the other ones are thinking.

SHOOT EVERYTHING NOT OUR GUYS

Right, I've been trying stuff for the past several hours and nothing's working. Already googled the issue I'm having and by all indications it's unresolvable and I'm a dummy for having it happen in the first place, but hey I might get a lucky shot.

So I've been working in Wordpad (I am a lazy person otherwise I'd have gotten something else) for the last month or so writing a thing, got to around 5k words. Computer up and crashed while I had it open (I was trying to download a dropbox file which ended up being a folder ... but it tried to open it in Microsoft word, which I don't have on the computer. But I found the folder itself downloaded safely later. Point is, the strain caused the crash) and when I turned the computer back on, a most unpleasant thing had happened to my document - it went blank, for lack of a better word. It's the same size file as before, text color's the same though it changed font from Calibri to Courier New, and you can highlight the spaces where the text should be, there's just nothing there.

I've tried system file check, antivirus to see if I accidentally a Trojan somehow, uploading the file onto OneDrive (Windows 10, didn't have any choice it came with the computer and I don't care enough to get it off) and redownloading it, no change. Copy and pasting yields nothing, various file recovery programs do nada, etc.

Like I said, I googled the issue and it's by far not an uncommon one. Unfortunately by all indications it's unfixable if I don't have a backup, which I didn't.

The guy in that link mentioned that he opened up his fucked file in Word and got a bunch of blank squares, and in Office only to get a bunch of #s. Unfortunately I haven't found a case where the thing was actually fixed.

So, any last-ditch ideas, or should I just accept fate's genitals and rewrite the thing?

Apologies for any incoherence, I'm real tired at the moment.

one more info piece: selecting all the 'text' and underlining it does result in the thing being underlined. It's just that it's only underlining blank space for some reason.
