Having gone back and played FF7 (screw roman numerals,) as an adult with a little bit of literary knowledge, the biggest problem was the dialogue. Everyone...speaks...like...Shatner! The ellipsis is cool, but we need to stop abusing it.

Heresy! Only Shatner has authorization to speak Shatnerese.

And Raven watched from the stars as the small lives below scurried about and died, one by one. He saw the gods of this place toying with them and was seized by a sudden urge, one he'd gotten before. It always meant an interesting time.  After all, why let the gods interfere in mortal business when you could let the mortals do the same?
He pecked and tore at the weft and weave of reality until there was a junction of sorts between here and the Ether. Opening his beak, he inhaled much of the essence of potentiality that emerged, and wafted the rest back into the hole before sealing it shut. Then he took wing.
Raven flew, silent, unobserved, to the places he sensed the mortals inhabited. He looked within them, and should they be possessed of a certain verve, a spark of mischief and glee, he exhaled the tiniest amount of Ether into their fragile forms as they slumbered. It would weave itself into their very being and give them gifts ... gifts he was eager to watch them use.

1 Act: Raven gifts magic to those mortals possessed of a similar personality to him: capricious, mischievous, but having an inner wisdom that will prevent them from using their gifts for wanton destruction.
