So... out of curiosity.  How many decent jobs are really out there?  Ones where low-level employees are given proper rewards and dignity?  Do they actually exist?  Does anyone here have one?
I volunteer at a food bank and it's not shit. No dignity losses so far.

As a follow up to this.

I was behind on rent this month. My roommate and I had spoken about it last month, and though he'd said it was okay, apparently it wasn't.

Earlier this week, I'd been having issues connecting to our router. Passive Aggressive stuff isn't new for my roommate, and I suspected he'd done something out of quiet spite, but after some probing he said nothing about it. I found a way to do a factory reset, and was able to get a little bit of work done for a client that night, though I lost most of the day.

This morning, when I woke up for a Skype meeting with another client (a bit twitchy about the freelancing thing, but offering high pay), I was puzzled to find that I had no internet access again. Walking into the living room, I discovered that my roommate had apparently decided to disconnect and take the modem to work with him this morning. General inconvenience aside, after I walked 30 minutes to the Library for net access, I got a very disappointed email informing me that after my no-show, the client decided to go with their fallback candidate. Over a week of careful negotiations for nothing, a valuable long-term client burned, and a month and a half of living expenses down the toilet in an instant.

As I said, the passive aggressive stuff isn't new for him. Loud sighs whenever he walks past my room, stomping around and slamming cabinets late at night, ignoring me when I say hi, pointing the cat laser at my door so the cat scratches and leaps into it while I'm trying to sleep, locking the latch on the front door so I can't get in without asking. I tell him I'm proud of something I cooked, and later he insults the smell of it. I talk about how I used to be self-conscious of my thinning hair, and later he asks me to sweep the floor because I'm "shedding so much hair" all over the place, etc. I have little patience for Passive Aggression as it is, but the modem stunt went beyond that, and sabotaged my ability to make a living. An attack on something I've committed months and months to making work. This wasn't just stupid... it was personal.

I'm moving out at the end of the month. And I have no idea where I'm going to be staying. Possibly my car. But fuck this.
Huh.
Well, you're a very controlled person, Soli, and I applaud you for that at least. If it were me there, I'd probably have made your situation somewhat worse, at least in the eyes of nonmurderers.

It was a tough dwarf. Got an arrow stuck in his throat that I never took out because I didn't want to dud from throat bleeding.

That's one Mr. Burns quote that somehow migrated into my everyday communication: "What in Satan's glorious name is going on here?"

This is fantastic and I will use it forever. Thank you, Helgoland.
Wonderful curse word/phrase: "SATAN'S NIPPLES!"
I prefer the epithet 'BEEZLEBUB'S SWEATY RIGHT TESTICLE' myself, but personal choice etc.

So I'm reading Brisingr and...
Quote
At first Nasuada assumed he was dark-skinned, like herself, and wearing dark attire, but as he drew closer, she saw that the elf wore only a loincloth and a braided fabric belt with a small pouch attached. The rest of him was covered with midnight-blue fur that glistened with a healthy sheen under the glare of the sun. On average, the fur was a quarter-inch long—a smooth, flexible armor that mirrored the shape and movement of the underlying muscles—but on his ankles and the undersides of his forearms, it extended a full two inches, and between his shoulder blades, there was a ruffled mane that stuck out a hands breadth from his body and tapered down along his back to the base of his spine. Jagged bangs shadowed his brow, and catlike tufts sprouted from the tips of his pointed ears, but otherwise the fur on his face was so short and flat, only its color betrayed its presence. His eyes were bright yellow. Instead of fingernails, a claw protruded from each of his middle fingers. And as he slowed to a stop before her, Nasuada noticed that a certain odor surrounded him: a salty musk reminiscent of dry juniper wood, oiled leather, and smoke. It was such a strong smell, and so obviously masculine, Nasuada felt her skin go hot and cold, pheramones and such etc.

I am masochistic when it comes to reading.
I remember that book. Fortunately, the guy doesn't really play a huge role.

Grizzly: I suspect we were the Big Bad for the world before we died, hence why we're feared.

Stop: river time!
By that I mean jump into the river and intimidate the crocodile into letting me use it as a mount.

((I'm more worried about her comprehension of the local language. And how her personality will affect how she tries stuff. And the fact that she is insane by any definition.))
((Maybe you guys shouldn't have let the two most insane people on the team go out and give first impressions.))

*slow clap*
Well, NK, you tried.
