Look for a pulley of some sort, or a rope, or something. If not found, try to push the gate open again. If that fails, knock on the gate. If that doesn't work, attempt to attract attention from inside via yelling. If not that, look for passerby and ask how to get in.

I've had it happen. Given, it was after adventuring for 100-odd years and killing every megabeast on the planet, but eventually I died of old age while going to a village to retire.

Dale let out a quiet huff and stood up from the bench. Without acknowledging anything further, he strode out of the park and into the black of the back alleys of the city.
Towards home.
Past the stim dealers, booze peddlers, pocket inspectors, down into the back alleyways, the filth and grime everpresent.
He blasted the dirt from his direct path as he walked through it and eventually he came to the little alcove in one of the parts of the city that always seems to be hidden, no matter where it is. It wasn't much; several thousand locks on the door, a door, a thin matress...not much in all. But it was home, and Dale's anger lessened just a tiny bit at the sight of it.
He would get a job. Then his plan could begin.
