Dresden's usually also packing mundane weapons and has a variety of contacts and allies. He really can't claim to have the backing of the mages in general, atleast not in the earlier books I'm at, though.

Not having read Skulduggery, they sound fairly similar (dunno about the power level with magic here). Also, how did this immediately devolve into a fight? I'm sure they'd rather team up.

They would probably team up, though Skul's much more violently horribly insane.
In a fight I'd say that while Dresden might have the advantage at long range, Skul would take him apart in melee.
This is, of course, assuming they're both standard power level (no super power ups or for Harry, no for Skulduggery.
