Roll To Dodge / Re: The Infinite Heavens: Herpetological Hospitality
« on: October 27, 2015, 11:54:33 am »
Upon seeing the hostile intentions, whether purposefully or not, of the Most High, Xankarvo quietly sighs for a second. Then his eyes light up with a manic fervour.

"YOU MAY SERVE AS KINDLING FOR MY FLAMES!"

Burninate the heart! Good thing I prepped all my fire stuff already.

Then book it to cover fast as I can.

Musings about Jim's character - he seemed to me to be a fairly average guy with (by first world standards) fairly standard morals. The only reason he's exalted as this big Captain America-like figure is that by comparison to almost everyone else in the HMRC he was a saint. He was totally willing to murder a random dude if he was annoying him, do the Mesk spine breaker thing, didn't really care all that much about Grate (leaving aside the DBZ-like conclusion to that particular fight), etc, but he was also pretty willing to make friends like he did with Lyra and everyone else he was friends with.

Basically an average dude who purely by virtue of not being an absolute monster gets portrayed as some guardian angel-type deal.

Ooooh that's awesome.

Also (hopefully you don't mind me spilling this PW) remember back when I was an evil space preying mantis monster?
That's what I look like evidently.

Basically those players that control the characters on the list give their interpretation of the characters, and for the character like Jim or Renen who's players aren't around anymore, everyone else is free to share their impression.

I'll say that my impression of Renen was that he basically accidentally turned himself into an emotional robot. He just kinda did things without any particular reason to do them or not, just as likely to go slice up a bunch of sods in a nanosecond as he was to watch the pretty explosions with Lyra.

Basically the ultimate chill guy who also happened to be an incredible fighter by way of Doc enhancements.

Excuse to blather about character motivations
*cracks knuckles*

So this depends on what Xan we're talking about. Current Xan, pre-flesh horror Xan (I know it isn't this one), first flesh horror Xan, or second flesh horror Xan.

Original Xan, pre-flesh horror: Basically a few steps away from an animal. No social skills whatsoever, runs mostly on survival instinct and greed. A bit of rational thought, but not much. Considers natural state of all life to be death, and given the opportunity will endeavour to convert alive people over to this natural state. He doesn't consider himself alive either due to not really having realized it. Desires essentially to convert life over to the natural state and for more power. Generally panicks under pressure, lashes out at full force with all he can muster. Very easily pissed off.

First flesh horror Xan: More developed as a person; considers himself a step above everything else apart from the Doctor, who he reveres almost as a god, and the AM who he knows could squash him like a bug if she wished. Incredibly arrogant, think kinda Semi-Perfect or Perfect Cell from DBZ. Basically classic villain, arrogant, cruel, hunger for more power, immortality, etc. He'll generally drop at least one new clone of himself on each new planet he gets to in order to ensure that if he's destroyed he survives in some manner. He has some capacity for social interaction if the people impress him through durability or sheer luck (see his quasi-friendship with Stacy). Possesses the capacity for subtlety, but not really all that much and he prefers to assume intimidating forms. He's better at responding to pressure than pre-horror Xan but if something's obviously about to kill him he'll drop everything and escape as fast as he can. Selfish, megalomaniacal, arrogant, cruel, with a strong self-preservation instinct.

Dan (called such because I disguised myself as a guy named Dan): Basically the above but seriously tempered by the revelation that he died by being incautious. Way more subtle, etc. Still has some trouble with social interaction, but he can effectively disguise himself as a random person if he needs to. Basically the above Xan but smarter.

Xanessa: If pre-horror Xan was a low-functioning sociopath, Xanessa's a high-functioning example. Totally cool under pressure and able to recognize when to run away and when to fight, able to keep up a convincing false identity for a prolonged period of time, etc. Keeps a running tally of those who have done her wrong and intends to repay them at a future point. Has an end goal that you likely know from my PMs on the subject. Also instead of seeing the Doctor as a god like the other versions of Xan, sees him as a very skilled and very dangerous individual, worthy of respect but not blind admiration or devotion. Intends to study under him at some point.

I keep a lot in my head.

Hell no, I can't spill my own secret. Because I'd spill my own secret in the asking.

This is the problem with secret conspiracies, no one knows what's what.

In "Ghost Rider" what was the point of Carter Slade's transformation? He could only change one more time and he kind of wasted it; he didn't use it to help Blaze and he didn't use it for his own benefit either.
Carter probably had some 4th wall senses and figured he might as well look badass before his screen time was over.

Can't say that I have a large sample size of experiences to draw from, but I noticed that I was much more prone to swearing and I got really depressed at my most intoxicated. I'd suppose that would make sense what with all the stuff I bottle up inside myself and the alcohol putting down some of the restrictions. Probably placebo effect somewhat too.

The initial... I don't know what it was, but the initial wore off and now there's mostly just sadness and too much thinking about my rejection by crush. Have to correct my thoughts whenever they go in that direction, got to tell myself that hope is really only going to make things worse.

On rejection.

He says most of what you need to hear, even if it isn't the same situation, the same points apply.
Eh, I know that a lot of sad thoughts tend to be exaggerated BS, and that I'll probably get over it. In the meantime, I really just need to vent.

Most certainly, he says so himself, and I agree. If you can't simply deal with the crap, vent and push it away for later when you can. Bottling up leads to bad stuff, mmkay.
As someone who's been bottling up feelings like this for around a year now, I can confirm this.

Hmm, what if instead of grabbing a toddler and turning it into a portable, controllable pile of IVANflesh, we just made IVANsods, or grew large lumps of IVANflesh attached to neural docking interfaces (like, a circular chunk of metal which connects to the flesh-lump's neurons, not to the controller's neurons). Then, we simply have a special handle device that you can mount the dockport onto -- like, a sort of two-handled thing with buttons or some other form of fine control for the fleshlump, kinda like you're holding an assault rifle with a big blob of flesh at the front, with the handles positioned for good balance. We can use the same system of docking ports for robobodies and replacement synthflesh bodies.

We do need something to replace synthflesh with, and I'm currently just running along with the idea that something IVAN-like could be feasible.

Taking it to its logical conclusion, we could develop some sort of fleshy horror that serves as a bio-battlesuit. Use Haebi research, IVAN research, maybe whatever those symbiotic hives came from. Essentially, you would enter a big blob of pulsating flesh through a large orifice that completely seals up behind you, the eldritch intelligence within probing into your mind, ready to cooperate with your mental faculties in commanding all the various parts of the body to morph into things. The logical conclusion is that you would merge entirely with the flesh horror, so you don't have such an inconvenient thing as a permanent skeleton preventing you from squishing through tight spaces.
You wanna be Xan then?
Cause that's what Xan was.

I don't remember, what with the system change and all. I vaguely recall a character swapping out two of his skills, so he shuffled his +1 in something to something else, in the old system. Is that still a thing?
But if people really want to change skills, we'll let them do it for...hmm 5 tokens? That seems reasonable right?
So I didn't see this before.
Would ... would I feasibly be able to do this, on-mission as I am, or would waiting for the mission to be over be better?
Because I kinda wanna jack Med as high as I possibly can in order to do [Xantalos Brand Vague Allusion To Future Events] correctly.

But I'm kinda uncertain how that'd work out since I built Xan from the respec with a +2 to start in exo, and added 15 points to get that +3. I'm guessing asking to put those +2 straight into my Med skill would be kinda unfair, but could something feasibly be done in this regard? Any ideas?

YO PIECEWISE PAY ATTENTION TO ME AND MY REASONABLE POWERGAMING
Imma be annoying and bring this up from the depths of the thread.

Might I, oh skeleton god-computer?
You'd have to wait till after the mission, and it costs 5 for every skill changed, but you can do it. You can't go above +4.
Shit, guess my powergaming fantasy will have to be laid to rest.
For now...
