this is the right thread right?
Eh, like Monkeyhead said, if the dude actually did pull a gun on a cop that's kinda suicidal because they will shoot you. That whole situation seems kinda blurry, but it just seems like it came at exactly the wrong time.

General Discussion / Re: What are you doing for Christmas? (2014 edition)
« on: December 24, 2014, 06:45:58 am »
I haven't been notified, but I believe I'm spending Christmas with either just family or some family friends alongside that, neither of which I have any real connection to, or have a very hard time relating to/communicating with. Thus I'll likely spend the day pretending to be happy and such before in the evening ascending to the shabby cave that is the room I spend most of my time in and peer in at the lives of people I haven't talked with in years so I can get despondent over how happy they are with their social circle, no matter how untrue that may be. I'll then wrestle with these intense feelings of discontentment until I fall asleep late at night, causing me to wake up late in the afternoon the next day to repeat the process.
There's gonna be a variety of cookies my mom baked, and probably some other Christmasy dish.
Overall, fairly average.

((I plan to take a boost from him if I survive the mission to make things more interesting. I need more trips through the aether fighting space squids or whatever the hell happened after I died that time before I got stuck in a movie theatre.))

Merlin reactivates the audio line and extends the turquoise line to Johnny's head again.

Firstly, I apologize for my forcefulness. Dealing with the unknown makes me cautious, and now that I know a portion of the truth my outlook is not much brighter. I don't intend to hurt you or anyone at all. I just want to survive whatever's happening. In that light, I think it would be best to start at the beginning. You said that your first involvement in anything supernatural started with the man who convinced you to stop drinking. Start from when you met him and go on from there, please. Leave out no detail; I have to know all I can.

Merlin temporarily silences the audio input for the phone call to Jack.

"Yes, but I have to ask you... please, stay for at least a little while longer. This whole situation is far more dire than even my worst predictions, it seems. And for better or worse, very powerful individuals have taken a keen interest in you. Any information you could provide would be invaluable to any of us surviving the coming storm."

He heaves a sigh out. This much momentous news at once meant swift action would have to be taken.

"In addition, there are several facts about you that I believe will be useful to you in the future. If you talk with me but a while longer, I will reveal them to you. I apologize for the hook tactic, but I need information if I am to act correctly. Please."

The wizard's eyes widen and the thought tendril retracts from Johnny's temple momentarily as thoughts come tumbling out of the back of Merlin's head in a flood.
Green. Green eyes.
Same shade as Matthew's.
Slight pulse, resistance to mind probe indicates latent magical ability.
From Saint Peter's Orphanage.
Matthew also from Saint Peter's orphanage.
Matthew also possesses significant latent magical ability.
Shared supernatural heritage most likely explanation. But only shared features green eyes...
Wait. Magic-killing entity under complex banished by unknown means, likely power greater than self.
Matthew asking about Jules afterward.
Agreement made with entity for potent magical materials a few months back. Unknown entity in agreement had green eye, identified as Jules.
Lack of magical creatures or features of any kind in world at large means only source could be hidden places or other worlds.
One of Jules' primary traits that he spreads across worlds akin to virus.
Shared features same shade of green eyes.
Same eyes as Jules.
Johnny son of Jules.
Matthew ... son of Jules.
...
...
...
...
...
Once is coincidence, twice is pattern. Jules used orphanage as dumping ground for children.
Orphanage recently burned down, claimed as arson. According to Johnny too professional for arson.
Something targeted orphanage for purpose. Perhaps enemy of Jules.
Likely other children of Jules in orphanage. Assume escaped and at large.
If whatever burned down orphanage was targeting Jules and/or children of, assume surveillance placed on any orphans adopted. Likely surveillance on shop. Need to search.
Need to keep up pretence of interview with Johnny.

This is manifested on the outside as Merlin rapidly blinking his eyes in odd patterns and the air around him occasionally pulsing. After a long period of silence, Merlin connects to Johnny's head again.

Your father, specifically. Do you remember anything significant about your father? This may explain some of the bizarre things that have been happening to you.

Merlin furrows his brow. Jules had approached Matthew in the store in the prelude to the deal he'd made - store compromised - and apparently talked to him after the incident underneath the complex, if his suspicions were right. Given this apparent preference for communicating with his children, combined with Johnny's rather jaded attitude toward supernatural events, suggested he'd likely contacted him before. More information needed. And how did the incident with the portal and the cultists connect?
I need more information.

...never mind the question about your parents. I apologize for changing tack so much, but you insinuated that many odd supernatural events have happened to you over the course of your involvement with R, or that you're used to them. What exactly happened to you? It could be important.

I'm almost finished Merlin's response, but I'm gonna PM it to you first to see if it works IC. It's kind of a 'the dots connect' moment for Merlin, and also the moment he goes into permanent 'oh fuck' mode.

Christmas shall henceforth be known as International Family-Obligated Consumerism Day!
Ain't that right, I've been being bugged all month to buy stuff for people.

6971
Isn't the atheist version of Christmas just Christmas but without the morning church service?
Morning church service? Huh, didn't know that.

Sorry if it seems Merlin knows too much, but there was some amount of factoids that suddenly clicked in his mind. He's not sure of some things yet, but he has strong suspicions.

So, question, how much do I know of the events that occured at the Estate.
I think Joan summarized it?

When Johnny says 'Saint Peter's', the mental equivalent of a thunderstorm starts going off in Merlin's head. The clamor of voices coming out of his head rises to an outright rumble before abruptly going completely silent, the last thing said being 'no coincidences'.
The silence hangs for a while before Merlin speaks again.

Do you remember your parents at all, Johnny? Anything about them? The color of their eyes, the reason they left you at the orphanage, anything at all?

There's a feeling of curiosity emanating from Merlin's mind, and amidst the background static of him debating things with himself too fast to be heard, a voice comes out.

You did it correctly. What orphanage? What connection did you have with them in the past?

Yddth-Klvah stands in front of the village at the head of a horde of sea-dwelling creatures, raised up into greatness by IT'S ineffable will. They have become strong, and now their first savaging is ahead of them. The humans believe a palisade will stop THEM? Not in the least. IT steps up, projecting IT'S voice to be heard by all the combatants.

YOU BELIEVE YOUR PLACE IN THIS WORLD IS GRANTED TO YOU WITHOUT NEED FOR RECOMPENSE. YOU BELIEVE THAT YOUR WALL WILL SAVE YOU. YOU BELIEVE YOU HAVE A FUTURE IN THE SUN. NO MORE. SUBMIT TO MY WILL. THROW DOWN YOUR RAGTAG WEAPONS AND I WILL GIFT YOU WITH A FAVORABLE SPOT AS SLAVES UNDER MY EMPIRE. IF YOU RESIST I WILL BREAK YOUR WILL AND SEND YOU TO TOIL BENEATH THE EARTH UNTIL YOUR FLESH AND BONE CRUMBLE INTO NOTHING. I WOULD ADVISE YOU TO NOT RESIST.

Blow a hole in the wall with some void essence and lead 1/3 of our forces through. Show your true visage to any fools who attack, and aim to incapacitate everyone so we can drag them back to our territory.
Nuk shall take the other 1/3 and circle around to the flank of them to prevent anyone from escaping and to pin them in.
Another capable starfish man take the last 1/3 and do the same on the opposite flank.  No one escapes.

Once everyone is captured, take everything in the village. Literally everything, even break apart the houses and take the wood they're made of. Take it all back to our kingdom.
